- xdvx, on 01/14/2008, -1/+31Now google can show temperature in area from "Here" to "There"
- babar77, on 01/14/2008, -3/+33I wish Google would just go straight to the horses mouth and get the data from NOAA.
- grovest4life, on 01/14/2008, -1/+18Make me.
- darkNiGHTS, on 01/15/2008, -2/+12Keep him at zero.
- xdvx, on 01/14/2008, -0/+9Not a problem
- jasonw09, on 01/14/2008, -0/+7It is working for me right now.... I can't honestly say I have any use for this until it works with planning a trip as mentioned in the article.
- AndrewDB, on 01/15/2008, -0/+7Weather channel's site sucks now, I remember when you typed in your zip code and all that showed up was the weather. Now, they focus on "Golf chart weather forcasts" and all sorts of miscellaneous crap that no one needs. If they wanna do that, they should make the page web 2.0 and have it entirely customizable to what you want or need for your weather page.
- muslax27, on 01/14/2008, -0/+6Or "There" and "Back Again" :)
- bobfuller30004, on 01/15/2008, -0/+6It's just another Google Weather Mapplet. Google didn't build it, The Weather Channel did. It's suddenly popular because Google 'teamed up' with The Weather Channel by simply making it a 'featured' Mapplet. It's neat, but certainly not a new Mapplet implementation in terms of content.
- brianbb98, on 01/14/2008, -1/+7When are they gonna come out with features like this and the street view for Google Earth?
- ctrlfreak13, on 01/14/2008, -1/+7The Weather Channel has terribly inaccurate forecasts and has become just a magnet for advertisers because of it's popularity. And now it's for sale and will probably be bought by a media giant by the likes of Rupert Murdoch and only become more of a portal for advertisers.
- afidler, on 01/15/2008, -0/+5I don't know, can't you?
- spz104, on 01/15/2008, -2/+7...and it completely sucks. As a meteorologist, I will tell you weather.com is the worse source for online data. This is further evidence. Should have gone with someone like weather underground, http://www.wunderground.com, they have tons of data and make it very accessible.
- DaffyDuck, on 01/15/2008, -0/+4That's Google Earth. We're talking about Google Maps.
- darkNiGHTS, on 01/15/2008, -0/+4Yeah, but then Google wouldn't be able to make money off of this feature. And it's basically the same data anyways.
- DaffyDuck, on 01/15/2008, -0/+4It doesn't work for me in Safari but does with Firefox.
- sockpuppets, on 01/15/2008, -0/+4Or from "Win" to "Fail"
- ksadya, on 01/15/2008, -0/+3http://nws.noaa.gov
- opnickc, on 01/15/2008, -0/+3http://maps.google.com/maps/mm?ie=UTF8&hl=en&ll=42 ...
- arunforce, on 01/15/2008, -0/+3Anyone know the temperature at Hell?
- BillDoE, on 01/15/2008, -1/+4Screw the weather channel. I go right to the source.http://www.noaa.gov/ and they aren't trying to sell me anything.
- wahooka, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2the weather channel uses microsoft live earth last time i checked:
http://www.weather.com/weather/map/interactive/980 ... - inactive, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2Eh, it happens.
- quikboy, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2Great. Nice feature. Sure wish Live Maps had this. It's great to have competition.
- payrok, on 01/18/2008, -0/+2whoops, here's the link http://www.weatherbank.com/cwsa/SB-786-CWSA-BACKGR ...
- payrok, on 01/18/2008, -0/+2The place to go for a forecast without all the hoopla. I wonder if people realize that all the weather stations, TWC, Accuweather, and such all start with a NWS forecast. These other outlets, may make things a little more snazzy, but their sites are bogged down with ads which is no fun. If you want a forecast use the National Weather Service.
As a side note. TWC and accuweather actually attempted to force NOAA into charging visitors for their forecast data. As a result of that, I don't use the other services at all. Though this feature of google maps is pretty slick. - Error601, on 01/14/2008, -2/+4Has anyone got this to work? It seemed to semi-work earlier and now just hangs.
- ksadya, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1I have direct access to a physical lightning sensor, but the company that makes the sensor has legally barred me from distributing my sensor's lightning strikes. WTF! They only offer a 15 minute delayed themed image (cartoon actually) of where lighting has struck, 15 minutes ago.
- payrok, on 01/18/2008, -0/+1To back up my note, here is a link to a pdf that explains the legislation that was introduced. It is an attempt to limit NOAA to broadcasting and giving access strictly to emergency weather information to the public, while ALLOWING NOAA to give them forecast information for free.
- DaffyDuck, on 01/15/2008, -3/+4i
.......it's an imaginary number..........since hell is imaginary - ahughes, on 01/15/2008, -1/+2coldest place on earth: Arka, Russia at -52C (-61F) as of 7:30pm EST
- milesdavis22, on 01/15/2008, -3/+4for historical purposes, they should have chosen http://www.weatherunderground.com instead.
- Error601, on 01/15/2008, -2/+3Just a guess but maybe because the data available form NOAA can't be made into an overlay without a significant amount of processing? The Weather Channel probably does it for free in order to get the marketing exposure.
- univerio, on 01/15/2008, -1/+2Great, lag Firefox some more, Google Maps.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 01/14/2008, -3/+4"We will bury you!"
- IIIKrazyKiDDIII, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1all layovers seem to be a bit sluggish but it works
- inactive, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1 Weather.com told me yesterday that I would wake up to snow in New York while at the same time saying the temperature was never going to get to freezing. They were wrong of course, just a bit of rain.
- cifrancgx, on 01/15/2008, -1/+1Nope it isn't working.
- likwidfuzion, on 01/15/2008, -2/+2Denied.
- Neoanarchist, on 01/15/2008, -3/+3"The weather today, underground, is damp, cold and dark. Your 5 day forecast is the same ***** for all 5 days. Have a lovely, and SAFE, weekend!"
- cifrancgx, on 01/15/2008, -1/+1I can get it to work in IE6 now but not Firefox (which I normally use).
- mweels, on 01/15/2008, -3/+3They should have used weatherunderground!
- bullcutter, on 01/15/2008, -1/+1are they doing this so they can show us which areas of the earth are going to be effected by global warming?
- lordmetroid, on 01/14/2008, -1/+1This is old news, I have had this for some time now!
- Shreyasva, on 01/15/2008, -0/+0great its about time those two got together
- slut, on 01/15/2008, -1/+1Now if only google maps could provide the aerial coverage and birds eye views that microsoft's live maps use.
- okmods, on 01/15/2008, -0/+0Worldwide lightning strikes for Google Maps is available free at http://www.guiWeather.com
- joshma, on 01/14/2008, -26/+26bury me.
- inactive, on 01/15/2008, -1/+1Go Google Go!
They can do a lot more with this, and I'm sure they will. Imagine more options like "clouds", colored map by temperature (red for 100s, orange for 90s, ...), snowfall, tornados.
I wonder if in 20years, if you use Google Maps, if it will be a live feed, where you can see people walking around. - jasonw09, on 01/15/2008, -0/+0I want to contribute, but he is already at zero... haha
