- geekymonkey, on 09/01/2008, -4/+631I think it's hilarious how "surprise gifts" are the excuse for giving a browser a privacy mode.
- HacKing, on 09/01/2008, -32/+371Hehe, this cracked me up:
"Chrome has a privacy mode; Google says you can create an “incognito” window “and nothing that occurs in that window is ever logged on your computer.” The latest version of Internet Explorer calls this InPrivate. Google’s use-case for when you might want to use the “incognito” feature is e.g. to keep a surprise gift a secret. "
Yeah, that or uhm, I don't know, watch porn?! - Eriksrocks, on 09/01/2008, -10/+270Google can now track all of my browsing habits? Now I REALLY hope they're not evil...
- inactive, on 09/01/2008, -28/+277I like the tab concept. It's certainly a unique idea.
- joe90210, on 09/01/2008, -19/+192now instead of Google tracking my surfing habits when I'm on their sites, they can track them all the time!!
- Crushkilla, on 09/01/2008, -6/+167WE'VE GOT ***** SHERLOCK HOLMES IN OUR MIDST!
- ibjhb, on 09/01/2008, -2/+147Its very interesting that Google has decided to take on a project like this. They obviously have such an interest in how people access the web, it was only a matter of time before they took things into their own hands. It is going to be very interesting to see how this pans out.
- thrikulam, on 09/01/2008, -5/+146Pretty ballsy.
It had better kick butt. - Raingwc, on 09/01/2008, -13/+142I for one welcome our Google overlords.
- morninglorii, on 09/01/2008, -4/+124I bet people are going to use it for masturbating, if you know what I mean.
- vpshockwave, on 09/01/2008, -0/+117He means porn
- Roundbadge, on 09/01/2008, -2/+107Wow, that lifted some secrecy at my work place (CS, Aarhus University, Denmark).
Google opened a development branch here a few years ago, but nobody ever knew what they were actually developing - and there has been a lot of secrecy around it. Apparently we have their development server in our server room / basement, and the security around it is pretty hefty - lots of surveillance cams, fences, alarms, security clearance systems for even being in the server room etc.
Most people speculated that it was just some boring low level system stuff they were developing, so this comes as quite a surprise. - hokkos, on 09/01/2008, -3/+93I will F5 google.com/chrome until it offers this damn new browser.
- andypop481, on 09/01/2008, -1/+85Does someone you know use the "privacy mode" a little too much in their browser?
REPORT TERRORISM - sirbeta, on 09/01/2008, -2/+78Maybe...gasp, it's him?
- nga911, on 09/01/2008, -9/+84i hope this is the same one that's running on android !
- Janv1er, on 09/01/2008, -26/+96"Instead of traditional tabs like those seen in Firefox, Chrome puts the tab buttons on the upper side of the window, not below the address bar. "
Terrible idea - tidu, on 09/01/2008, -2/+68We need a browser that has built-in goatse, lemonparty, tubgirl and RickRolling warnings
- Darkhacker, on 09/01/2008, -3/+68Why? It's open source. Anyone can implement Ad Block into Chrome.
- p3ngwin, on 09/01/2008, -8/+70webkit, open source java, google backed.
love it!
the android platform mobile devices just got another feature, and open source browser from a company that LOVES open source! - lordtyros, on 09/01/2008, -11/+73Separate threads for tabs - Credit to IE8
Address bar below tabs - Credit to Opera - Darkhacker, on 09/01/2008, -0/+62It's based off WebKit so if it works in Safari, then it's highly unlikely that Google's port would be different enough to cause any incompatibilities. Especially since the comic talked about how they are doing compatibility testing. If it works in Safari, you can pretty much assume it will work with Chrome.
Also, it does bring a lot of new stuff to the table. Each tab is in it's own process, as is each plugin. Also, I'm dieing to see how V8 stacks up against SquirrelFish and TraceMonkey. - diggit08, on 09/01/2008, -3/+63its for things that you dont want other people to see. lets keep the lid on this one peeps.
- random12345, on 11/16/2008, -2/+59Google started out as a search engine, went onto e-mail, then a full office suite, and now a browser... I think its safe to assume GoogleOS will be a reality in the near future if the trend continues.

What's with the copy paste from reddit? - richbradshaw, on 09/01/2008, -2/+58Yeah, who would want to use Google on a Google browser?
- ACiDGRiM, on 09/01/2008, -1/+52Good news, you don't have to wait for that! Just download their helpful toolbar.
- Atomic1fire, on 09/01/2008, -5/+55while Im normally a firefox user (have flock on usb drive currently not that it matters though), its going to be interesting to watch this pan out. depending on if its extensible I might use chrome
- DharmaTurtle, on 09/01/2008, -2/+51STEAL MUSIC!
BUT DON'T YOU DARE STEAL COMMENTS!!! - SSPink, on 09/01/2008, -0/+49Oh morninglorii, you sly dog.
- chazuk, on 09/01/2008, -3/+49Just like someone has already said Opera have already done it....
- y2kery, on 09/01/2008, -5/+49Huh?
- KORGOTH, on 09/02/2008, -0/+43GET OUT OF MY ROOM MOM, I'M WRAPPING PRESENTS!
- joel8x, on 09/01/2008, -2/+45You bring up a really good point. At what point does Google flip the evil switch?
- DivisibleByZero, on 09/01/2008, -51/+93What a crappy idea. There's no need to give me yet another browser to have to test my code on. If google wants to do something for open source, they should contribute to Firefox instead of creating another browser that brings nothing new to the table.
- Atomic1fire, on 09/01/2008, -2/+44Probably,
Google chrome is opensource (supposedly)
and google toolbar lets you change search engines - MScrip, on 09/01/2008, -6/+47So, it uses the Speed-Dial feature form Opera, the Awesome Bar from Firefox 3, and the privacy mode from Safari and IE8... And isn't Chrome what Firefox calls its control area?
Good job Google! - penguinofhonor, on 09/01/2008, -0/+41People find porn very important.
- Darkhacker, on 09/01/2008, -3/+44I wonder which WebKit port they'll use and which GUI toolkit.
Also from the comments on the blog...
"The 404 page for google.com/chrome is very different from any other 404 page, such as google.com/chrom
I've noticed this with other services before they were released (such as presently)."
"code.google.com/p/chrome/ returns an 403 error, not a 404." - maverick999, on 09/01/2008, -4/+41Entire comic: http://www.agglom.com/webslideshow/1876/Google_Chr ...
- OneLess, on 09/02/2008, -1/+38I buy gifts like almost every night...so this feature will be pretty useful.
- rogue780, on 09/01/2008, -4/+40Who?
- badenglishihave, on 09/02/2008, -1/+36Did you just make that up?
- RandyDisher, on 09/01/2008, -0/+35This is already, or at least can be, the case with Opera. I like it but I guess its down to personal preference.
- joe90210, on 09/01/2008, -2/+37yes, this is available in the IE8 beta, it's ***** awesome
- samthurston, on 09/01/2008, -0/+33news for you, they probably already are tracking all of your browsing habits. Think about how few sites you visit these days don't have google ads, google site search, google analytics, google ajax api, google maps, or something else google attached to them.
They've got some pretty deep hooks in the web. - lordtyros, on 09/01/2008, -6/+38About 3 years back.
- bronkenwrists, on 09/01/2008, -5/+37Can you make yahoo or windows live or any other search engine, your default?
