- mortaneous, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Mine's working just fine... and it looks like there's only a few people even mentioning it. I saw maybe three threads that were related in the first two pages. This doesn't strike me as "a lot of Users" It sounds like a lot of people jumping to conclusions when it's really just routine maintenance and they'll have access back this afternoon. That's happened to me before.
- TimNinja, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Yep, my email has been down for a few hours, bogus. I don't exist without gmail
- MrSarcasm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Don't worry... it's just beta you know, temporary problems occur. /sarcasm
- VANOS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm with ya. And I think this is the first time I've regretted using it. Scary how much we depend on it.
I just hope the incoming messages are qued... or I'm in a world of *****. - BobMysterioso, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7but you paid for service!
you deserve the uptime!
oh, you didn't pay? - frimsah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8What? A free service with hundreds of thousands of users had a server hiccup? You mean with all of the terabytes of data on their servers, a few megabytes were temporarily corrupted?
this is news? - DiggedBy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6madnumVP: read the google groups that are linked, there are a LOT of users out that are posting, and i'm sure very few gmail users even know google groups are out there.
- DiggedBy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5mine is down, but my wife's is up... there's more of a dialog over here:
http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-down/browse_thread/thread/992fe8c58295d356 - shm0edawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'll get dugg down furiously for this...... but I've never had my Y! Mail go down. It's a simple fact. I'm not trying to state that Y! mail or Hotmail or any other mail service is better, but at least with Y! Mail there is a support option and it's not in Beta. If you really are that concerned about checking your email and having it be reliable, why choose a beta email service with no support? Then when it goes down, everyone is up in arms.
- ankur2004, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4finally google has an update
http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-Problem-solving/browse_thread/thread/960aec8930c4e7bc
although no information has been provided as to what the issue has been, but, still it is a relief to hear from google. - jukeboxgraduate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Here's a better thread that starts to show the scope of the problem:

- SimonDonkers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Here's the official Google responce on the matter. Source: http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-Problem-solving/browse_thread/thread/960aec8930c4e7bc/8e3b1f663214b7f8#8e3b1f663214b7f8

Hi all,
We are aware of the issues a small sub-set of our users are
experiencing when logging in and sending messages. Rest assured that
our engineering team is working diligently to resolve these errors. We
appreciate your patience.
Please refer back to this thread for updates as they become available.

We know how important Gmail is to our users, so we take issues like
this very seriously and are working as quickly as we can to get all
users back up and running. I am monitoring this thread carefully and
will address your specific questions as soon as I have the most
accurate information.

Here is the latest update:
Our engineers are continuing to work on this problem and we expect to
have it resolved within a matter of hours. We expect users will have
full access to their accounts and mail once the problem is resolved;
some messages, however, may be delayed.

It's working fine for me. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Working fine here. It's not too many people complaining about it but yeah, if mine was down I'd be pretty upset so I understand where you people are coming from.
On a similar note has anyone else noticed VERY slow response speeds with gMail over the last 2 months or so? - hansonc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4if you don't exist without gmail how are you posting on digg?
- danep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3To add the pile of evidence to the contrary mortaneous, mine's been off and on (with error code 767) for a day now- and this is the first time that I've ever experienced any errors at all. The fact that so many users are reporting this at once seems more than coincidence.
- keinsignal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32 errors out of 3 accounts here, interestingly the one account that's working is my oldest one.
I really expected better from Google than "a small subset of users are experiencing problems" and "please try logging into your account in a few minutes". You've got a damn blog, Google, use it. Tell us what's up, and in detail. - szym, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4gmail had intermittent failures all day yesterday, but today I cannot log in at all. I must now reconsider my complete reliance on gmail.
- toran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Mine's down. I hope none of my email is missing when it comes back up!
- democracysucks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Gmail's been having problems the last couple days. Try downloading a large attachment from one of your messages...doesn't work!
- nizzy1115, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2its been down since about 2:30 last night for me, still down now 8 hours later :/
- johno692001, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Big news...heading towards 15 hours with no Gmail, but there's progress...for about 12 hours I got Server error 766; in the last hour I got....wait for it.....
server error 767...way to go Google! I'm just gobsmacked that a company the size of Google, can't get this resolved. It's all a little scary...Google taking over the world's data....then losing it... - bryan4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This sucks! I told Gmail to fetch all my mail from other accounts and now I'm screwed.
- rancidbry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This sucks really bad. I need to be able to rely on my email. My lab mate can use her email, but mine has been down ever since I woke up at 8am. Its not 10am and still nothing. I am expecting important emails. Fix it google!
- btipling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2been down for me all damned day.
- ascheinberg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2When Google begins selling their services and tagging it "Enterprise" level, I think it's fair for people to depend on Gmail. If our email here is down for even 2 minutes, I get phone calls. I think it's completely appropriate for Digg'ers to bitch when Gmail is having problems for what is now nearly 24 hours (at least, for me).
- dmuth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I've been having problems with my Gmail account all morning.
I find Google's lack of addressing issues like these to be appalling. Even YouTube at least has the decency to put up a few hours notice for maintenance, or when an outage actually happens. With Gmail, you have no idea until you try to read or send a message, and you suddenly get a 717 error.
Right now I have a message that I typed out, but cannot send or save because Gmail is down. Way to go, Google. I guess "Do no evil" doesn't include, "Having your heads up your butts". - hansonc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2were you dumb enough to delete the old xls file?
- sporkmonger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2POP3 access frequently times out during login, but occasionally I'm able to download 10 messages or so before it times out again.
- Hormelinator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+299.9% is 8 hrs (thats on the paid version)
I'm getting one error out of about 10 accounts
do you think all the people rushing to see if it is working causes more load? - AllnightChemist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I had toast this morning, too.
- Karmalary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have polled 27 friends, both by gmail and IM, between noon and 1:00 central time. No problems reported we are just lucky I guess.
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I concur.
- GGzah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Mine has been toast since this morning, and is still down now. Anyone have any idea what the heck is actually wrong?
- AdamGott, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Mine is back up now (11:30am mountain time). It was down earlier this morning (about 7am mountain time).
Is it just me or is it kind of silly to post/digg stuff like this that is probably only temporary? It's one thing if you can't log in after a day (or even half a day) but every web site should be entitled to their problems, gmail is usually fairly reliable for me.
Ok, I may have been a bit premature, I can read some of my mail intermittently but it still does not seem to be completely working (thankfully I was able to edit my post after a short amount of time!) - potterboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well this sucks, someone needs to buy a new hamster, i think the old one finally died. Or maybe the wheel is broken. I hope its up by tomorrow or I'm up a creek.
- shotgunefx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I had the problem last night, but only from one machine. (I was loggined from two). Only lasted a short time.
- underthelinux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Kreb,
to be fair, even if my computer/outlook is offline, i can still read emails from it. Not new ones, mind you, but i often need to refer to old ones. Google advertised this - so their outage is a severe inconvenience for me (and anyone who was contemplating using online practices). - euphoria, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mine is down, blah.
Any comments to back up your data should be ignored, they will likely only further exacerbate the issue. Just because it's down for some people doesn't mean any data will be lost. - Shighlock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh, and check out all the other people with the new 767 error:

what gmail privacy concerns? The keyword-based ads that appear on the right column that seem like gmail is reading ur mail? - infectbda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think they know what is going on with how long things have been going on.
- wolffreetorun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My gmail is working fine for the moment. Once this morning I tried to delete an e-mail & it came up error. But since then it has been doing great. I have had more trouble with yahoo mail in the past than I have with gmail. Hope you all get your gmail back soon. And I hope I don't have the same problems. As for google not saying anything about it, I've never had a mail sever say anything when they have problems. Computers are machines & machines break down sometimes. And sometimes other things go wrong. It's great when it all works but when it doesn't, it is very frustrating.
- vivsriaus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My life has come to a stand-still without gmail. :-(
- ecsos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't highly recommend Google Desktop because I've seen some intermittent issues on a few computers, but if you *have* to have mail availability, one of its features is offline mail searching.
- yourfault1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've had some of these same problems again the past few days... 3/27-3/28
Anyone else? - DevinOlsen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Working fine for me here...
- jukhau, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1I can't access gmail.com, but I can access my gmail via i-google homepage.
So, try google.com -> click gmail, if gmail.com url is not working for you. - rancidbry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1my gmail works again. 7 hours later. Thank god
- cyrokill, on 01/02/2009, -0/+1M$?
