- mlblac02, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21Using Facebook to be productive? Impossible.
- sruffelman, on 10/10/2007, -4/+19Facebook was much better before they added on all the bells and whistles. They should have kept it only for .edu addresses as well.
- fpcyber, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16At least it isn't at the point you can change the CSS yet.
- xW1TN3SSx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13What facebook needs is a solid open source community. There's too many duplicates out there (FunWall, Superwall, Advanced Wall, etc.) that are interfering with the networks' communicating.
- axiomflash, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10you can do a google search from INSIDE facebook? holy cow! I usually have to go all the way up to my address bar!
- BenCoJones, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11None of these apps make you more productive; in fact, it's been a waste of time reading this list. Lame.
- idiot123, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I'm so sick of these new zombie apps i keep getting requests for.
- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -1/+9"You can make Facebook into your own personal Mr. Belvedere."
Someone please enlighten me how I can turn a website into a kick ass 80s sitcom. - janemcopland, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8I feel like such an old woman, but I kind of liked Facebook when it wasn't so app-happy. I am one of the people who remembers this homepage, however:
http://www.preoccupations.org/WindowsLiveWriter/Timelines_641/Facebook_thumb.png
I may as well just go back to Friendster. The people born after 1992 don't want me here. - janemcopland, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7But then I couldn't gawk at the awful lives of the six-kids-by-age-23 girls I went to high school with! Which would make Facebook so much less fun.
- hughesj919, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Its just a matter of time before facebook becomes the seizure-inducing music-blaring internet circus that Myspace has become.
- zachblume, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Let's hope it never comes to that.
- wwwdot1jesdotus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Facebook doesn't help you get anything done but generate more things to do.
- Piedramente, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Facebook and productive are mutually exclusive
- sruffelman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Or the temptation to check out hilarious groups will make you even less productive. I just can't wait until parents hear this -- "I need to go on Facebook to do my homework!"
- BlinderBomber, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I completely agree, but I don't really see how they can solve the problem.
- TheFBI, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3My university is located in Germany and thus I don't have an .edu address. What now?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Your first two sentences remind me of a t-shirt: "I listen to bands that don't even exist yet."
- aserer511, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Zoho: You can add Zoho to your Facebook profile; this gives you the power to write all your office-ish documents.
WHO THE ***** LOGS INTO FB TO DO DOCS? - ArmchairAthlete, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2twitter makes you productive? buried.
- Toupee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I don't know about 'productive'... but I like some of the apps. Personally I find myself with more to do at Facebook. I can hop on and say that I just saw Children of Men and it was awesome. I can let people know about a hilarious book I happened upon. And I like the Digg.com and Google Reader streams.
My favorite one is Graffiti, though... it's a reasonably powerful little tool and I find it a lot more fun to leave a bizarre picture for someone than say "hey, haven't talked in ages, how are you?" on someone's wall.
Of course at the same time there's a bunch of crappy stuff (at least you can easily hide stupid apps universally on other people's profiles), an assload of advertising, an annoying pinch of 'get all your friends to install this app', and a bunch of company names in place of what should be open source development. I think it has interesting potential. Many of them act, more or less, as mini-websites, where the user already has all of their friends at their fingertips to socialize with. - mbthompson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2These are not going to help you be productive at all. Lame and buried.
- Hidama, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Gah, apps. You can battle pirates, werewolves, ninjas, vampires, zombies and pets. You can have a happy hour, give a thousand free gifts and odd text gifts, track someone's zodiac, popularity and where they've traveled but heaven forbid if you ever are able to sort through all that stuff and make it to their wall.
- daveisfera, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3That Picasa app is an awesome idea, because the standard Facebook photo uploading method isn't exactly "user friendly".
- D4N747, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Buried is innacurate; Facebook != productive
- mattthommo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm pretty sure that Productivity is the sworn enemy of the facebook....
It's like Superman and Lex Luthor - they will never work together but if by chance the ever do, then you just know that no good can come of it. - zachblume, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wow that was an unusually paranoid comment.
- thosemoose, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Can no one see that facebook is harvesting every ounce of its users personal information under the guise of 'productivity' and 'convenience'.
- BeFit4Free, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1What do you guys think of my new App?
http://www.facebook.com/editapps.php?ref=mb#/apps/ ...
I'm new at this but here's the home page:
http://apps.facebook.com/be_fit_for_free/ - innocentsinner, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Until they get popular and, like, totally gay.
- chicoer2001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I like Facebook the least productive as possible. If I want productivity I'll stay around from a social networking site.
- thatgirlismine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't know about facebook apps being that productive outside of the facebook context, but Shortcut ( http://apps.facebook.com/shortcut/ ) will save you an intermediate page load when trying to get to a friend's profile to read their wall/send a message/view photos/etc.
Start typing a few letters of a friends name and it'll bring up a list of candidates, arrow to the one you want and hit return. - Sacrifice, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Facebook is a useful communication and contact management tool, but I have yet to find an app that improves productivity.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1improve the default wall then
- beguiledfoil, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Once the epileptics are dead, we will restore order...
-Anonymous (they h4ck3d me and are now trying to kill epileptics, LULZ - beguilfed foil) - pitpattheman, on 03/04/2008, -0/+0What do you think of "Stuck on an island"?
http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=89 ... - dinvasco, on 01/16/2008, -0/+0I like this one.
http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=66 ... - beguiledfoil, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Putting the words productive and Facebook in the same sentence makes baby Jesus cry.
- tyfighter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0As has been stated already by many comments, facebook and productive are antonyms.
- DeltaDelta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0What I can´t understand why this story has approx. 700 diggs?? Facebook and productivity is a contradiction in terms!!
No, this gadget will make me more productive, take a look and come with suggestions to your productivity.
http://larspehrsson.wordpress.com/2007/08/01/the-gadget-a-must-have/ - oktshun, on 12/27/2007, -0/+0For Counter-productivity, try the 'Crash and Burn' app at http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=65 ... ... or any other app on facebook for that matter. I'm yet to discover anything that's not a time waster!
- Scheissenegger, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4buried as inaccurate:
"get productive" and "facebook" in one sentence - serryzorro, on 12/05/2007, -1/+0___________________________________________________________

Cosmetic Dentistry - http://www.cosmetic-dentistryinfo.com/ - marshallk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1You're being bitten by a gay zombie? Like right now? That's so hot! I wonder what he'd want to do with a brain dead straight guy like you? or did you mean 'gay' in a good way? even though your comment was stupid, it still made me laugh.
- koreth, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0And a solid open source community will solve the proliferation of similar applications? You're talking about the same open source community that brought us FreeBSD and Linux (including Debian and Slackware and Ubuntu and Gentoo), KDE and GNOME and IceWM, vim and nvi, MySQL and PostgreSQL, and so on? IMO -- and I'm a big open-source advocate, mind -- the single thing the open source community is best at is making software that looks very similar to other software.

siarhei@senpai-it.com - belv, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2I've had a Facebook for a couple of years, back when the URL used to be thefacebook.com. I'm sure many people don't even know that. At the same time I like the whole applications idea, many of them are gay. I keep getting bit by a goddamn zombie.
