Why doesn't my Gmail have Google Calendar related features?
It may take a few days before your Gmail account displays Google Calendar related features. We're working hard to roll out these features to all Gmail users, and we appreciate your patience.
It works for me. - scanman20, on 10/12/2007, -17/+39Inaccurate. I use Gmail and the calendar and I see no such links in Gmail. They haven't updated everyone yet obviously.
- infnit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Well Google already offers so many useful services that can all be accessed with one account. (Seems the Google Accounts system is working better than Microsoft's Passport system.) This calendar is now also integrated with one's e-mail account! What better! Wheras 30 Boxes and other calendar start-ups are stand-alones.
- lionwilson, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14Google Calendar... how do I love thee... let me count the ways:
1. I'll never forget my girlfriend's birthday again.
2. I'll never forget our anniversary again.
3. ... uhh, basically you keep me on good terms with my girlfriend.
And for that, and that alone, Google Calendar + Gmail gets my Seal of Approval! - jbenson2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10It does not work for me either. I tried both IE and Firefox and created messages. There is a link from the calendar back to gmail, but not from gmail to the calendar.
- ucbrave92, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8It's not showing up for me, but I must say I absolutely am loving GCal, I am already more organized and being able to share events is awesome, I have introduced it to some of my profs and already they are using it and some implementing it in class.
- supercleanse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5With GMail integration Google is going after Microsoft Outlook -- within a year I believe it will have pretty much all of the features of Outlook but will be a much better alternative -- this is mainly because of the calendar sharing option and the fact that its free.
- mtvkilledusall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I used 30 boxes for about two months, but dropped them like a sack of dead kittens when Google Calendar launched simply for the integration with all my other Google services. I liked 30 boxes but they've got nothing on Google.
- Nation, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Google does rolling updates/releases ... I had google talk integration with my https long before many others.
It just takes a while for all their servers/clusters to get updated. - popezaphod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'm waiting for the Calendar to be added to the customized Google homepage.
- mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It does appear that they are rolling it out, but it seems a majority of people already have it
- wesvt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I now have the Calendar update for my Gmail. Very nicely done. Now if Google could integrate a good contact manager, task manager, that would be perfection.
- abdulla, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Man, I don't even have webclips or google talk in my gmail. I seriously have squat and everyone else has a fully featured gmail, what's going on there?
- BluParadox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes it is. They are working on outlook sync features and sync for the Treo...
- gaberbruno, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I use the UK English version of gmail and am already loving using google calendar, I changed to the American English version and hey presto - links appeared and the integration appeared along with the google chat facility. Switched back and poof it disappeared again!
I guess Google staggers the update of their servers which is fair enough really although it would be nice if they were not always to give priority to US customers with their fancy new updates. I understand they are a US based company but I can dream can't I? - Dave, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Awwww. Poor kittens.
- nocode, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10do you want fries with that?
- RVDigital, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3http://blog.outer-court.com/archive/2006-04-15-n53.html
This source page has more screenshots. - GerryDaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Works for me. Definately logout and log back into GMail...
- genericface, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"With GMail integration Google is going after Microsoft Outlook -- within a year I believe it will have pretty much all of the features of Outlook but will be a much better alternative -- this is mainly because of the calendar sharing option and the fact that its free."
I generally agree with your statement, but something that Google cannot and may not be able to offer is offline access. To me, accessing a calendar or email needs to be available offline.
On that note, I think Mozilla's calendar and email applications has a chance of incorporating GMail invitations, calendar syncing with iCal (this depends on Google too), etc whereas Outlook is unlikely to ever support a Google service. - kstagg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Not everyone has it. I'm having the same issue - no access to Calendar from within Gmail when composing letter.
- jzp-digg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It isn't "translation systems" but what server clusters serve which different gmail flavours. use your brains a bit eh?
- plkrtn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It only works on the English (US) interface so far, much like the GTalk and Web Clips only work on the English (US) area.
Google seems to have some really pathetic translation system behind GMail. - fritts1227, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Is there a way to make the google navigation bar open calendar or gmail in the same window... everytime I click them it opens in a new window.
- Myst3r1o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's awesome. My Gmail hasn't been updated yet, but hopefully by tomorrow it will be.
Now if they added a better "Forward to" feature, where instead of actually selecting which contacts to send the e-mail to(In the Contacts area), composing a new e-mail and copying/pasting all contents from another e-mail to the newly composted e-mail, and sending that e-mail off to the selected contacts.. instead of doing that, there should be a way to select an already read e-mail, select "Forward to", and instead of typing e-mails in the To: box, there should be an "Insert Addresses" option, much like in Yahoo E-mail, so you can mark which e-mails you would like to send that composted e-mail to, which then will instantly insert all selected e-mails into the To: box.
Unless there is already a way of doing that? But I don't think there is. If they added such a feature, that would be so awesome and much more convenient then the way it's set up now. One can only hope, I guess. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4While they're at it introducing new features, users privacy continue to get eroded. No way am I ever going back to gmail after they pulled that "we store everything in perpetuity, even if you 'delete' all your mails" nonsense. Call me paranoid, but when people start using google for everything, we're pwned. They already have chat, mail, search, storage, calendar, and that puts whatever you store about yourself or your business in google's hands, forever. Doesn't that sound just a little bit worrying to a few out here?
- moges, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Nope, still don't see it. Maybe it's coz I'm in Australia and they will be doing their servers later...??
But then, I STILL dont have chat integration in my main account (I do for my other accounts though) - excursive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The "details" on the blog this links to are pretty sparse. A more informative link might be the "Gmail integration" page at google:
http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/topic.py?topic=8569 - jole, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1ditto
- kimos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Same. I don't have it yet in my gmail.
I remember when they rolled out google chat in gmail, it disappeared if I logged in with https. For a while I was scared that I was going to have to choose between one of the two, but eventually it all got pushed out.
Guess us unlucky ones will just have to wait... - mooatr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3mrbradbury, I don't think that's fair. As much as I love gmail and try to convert the unenlightened hotmailers to it, I think all languages should have the new features.
- RamezaniK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Depending on when you got your Gmail, you will eventually be able to use Google CL2. When Gmail first added "WebClips" I didn't see them until a month or so after my friend who had been invited to gmail directly by an original gmail user, where i got invited by a third or fourth tier user.
- chrisgeleven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What makes you think Yahoo or Microsoft doesn't keep your data either?
- viciousnet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1but if there little partnership with firefox who knows we could have thunderbird integration of google calendar for offline viewing. i'd download that. im not a huge fan of outlook
- plkrtn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well seeing as translation should be seperate from the UI, and whenever a UI change is made, it should be easily mirrored across all translations, I'm very dissapointed. What kind of awful translation system lies behind Google??
- matija, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1didn't work for me either
- mbradbury, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@abdulla all the new stuff only works if you have your language set to English (US) in settings.
- Flagg3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1For those that don't see the new links, make sure to logout and log back into GMail. You won't see the updates until you logout.
- Krutch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Still waiting. Google is being slow about rolling this out.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1much better visualized here: http://blog.outer-court.com/archive/2006-04-15-n53.html
- Krutch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I was wondeirng when they were going to start rolling out the new gmail with gcal integration. Unfortunatly, I am still not upgraded. Oh well. I have all night (12 hour night shifts suck). Now I would like to see some links near the Google Icon to easily navigate to personalized home/gmail/gcal. This would be perfect. I noticed these links exist above the gcal google logo.
(sits back and waits patiently and wonders when the Digg Check Spelling feature will work) - Willmonwah, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Are you using English as your default language? How about http (vs https)?
- ElGuano, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Vestibule?
- digitalrao, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I love Gmail and Gcal so much! starting to replace Ycal we need some verizon wireless TXT(SMS) support please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Maybe if you read the above comments you may know why. To the person below.
- roryfireshaper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I had noticed the link on GCal's page when it started, I'm glad they are bringing that same nav bar to GMail. Lovin' it!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I am genuinely curious about this, could you provide a link on Google that backs up what you say? If it's true, I'm ditching Gmail for Yahoo (i know they're not the greatest, but the Beta has impressed me so far).
- tlogank, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2This is pretty amazing...if only Gmail and the calendar application could make this sync with Activesync...wonder if this is on the way?
- wolfzero, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Sweet. Better GMail! Can't wait.
- Mike89, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1They should but don't.
