- Langford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Ah VirtualDub is in the list. I use it constantly, it's so useful.
- wurzelgummage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Virtual Edit Evaluation Version is free to download for evaluation. You can experiment with all of the features offered by the full version of Virtual Edit, but you will not be able to render advanced transitions, clip effects or titles into output files.
- Blah_Blah_Blah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I use Virtual dub for splitting, but i dont think its much of a video editor if your looking to add text etc.
- artofwar420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yes thanks for this, I was always in the look for a good cheap video editing software. But now I found FREE ones! thanks.
- regeya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If you're looking for Virtualdub-type stuff on Linux and don't want to run it under Wine or help with the arduous Winelib port, you could give Avidemux a shot:
http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/
I tend to use a combination of Kino and Avidemux when I'm readying home videos for DVD. - TheSaladMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You forgot Jashaka, open source ftw!
- Langford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I used it to make a promotional video for the grant I work for; Editing, fades, credits, music dubbing, cropping, levels adjustment, the whole thing.
- zhulien, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They must have used a very small font for the MorphOS/AmigaOS platforms.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3damn, this is a great list! i've never even heard of half these programs, thanks for bringing them to my attention
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3yeah, i just noticed it was shareware, not free after all
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is great I have been looking for some way to use Virtualdub in Linux
- hobg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Missing item Avisynth - http://www.avisynth.org/
Open source, scriptable frameserver with advanced non-linear editing capabilities. Unfortunately Windows only, if anyone knows of a Linux replacement for this please let me know. - dacheetah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was thinking along similar lines.
They should say ALL platforms when they've only mentioned three.
There are ALOT of other platforms out there, maybe not as common, but the top three does not mean "all platforms".
I'd think of a metaphor using the platorms of a train station, but I'm too lazy. - joe7d6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2currently using Lives. easy to use but i feel it's too powerful and professional look for simple home video editing.
wish Diva is ready...
http://www.diva-project.org/wiki/Screenshots - dracheflieger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No BSD...last time I looked (unless I missed much of the rise of the Internet) *BSD was and is a platform (and it's not Linux [thank gawds])
- rbvmusic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No way, FCP is the *****.
- estacado, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If it's not free, go for Vegas.
- majormar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't forget cinelerra http://heroinewarrior.com/cinelerra.php3. It is one of the open source tools we use for our video podcast http://www.thesourceshow.org. It is a professional grade tool with tons of options and a great mailing list. It does take a little getting used to though.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Even though there are a number of notable programs listed, I still prefer the Adobe line of programs because of their power and flexibilty. However, I occasionally use some freeware programs for light work.
- code_of_life, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Many of these are shareware, or demo's only.
Not "A list of Free video editing software for all platforms" - Bayscion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not sure about the other programs, but Zwei-Stein allows you to do greenscreen ( chromakeying ) effects and it is freeware. I don't know if there's any other free programs that let you do chromakeying.
- brzlmnky, on 10/09/2008, -0/+0blender has both 3d and video functionality.
why do you think it sound like i never use it?
i totally do. - smrty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1good list
- c2kris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1thanks much
- nufoto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0HyperEngine-AV: http://www.arboretum.com/products/hyperengine-av/hav_main.html
Mac only. - grubbanax, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Hey Blah Blah Blah... I am looking for free video editing where I can add text. I want to finish off a project started by someone else who used Adobe Premiere. I grab audio from different sources but want to add white text on a black screen to the audio.
I want to be able to determine the size, font and colour of the text etc.
Do you or anyone else, know of a good program. I've downloaded a few and none have worked or done what I wanted it to do. - promacros, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1lol, this site still has the drupal icon as their favicon.ico
- KloroFormd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Blender is for 3D rendering, not video editing...
You speak so high of it, yet it sounds like you never used it. - pjludlow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The story was posted on Dec. 26, 2005 so it's a bit out-of-date.
iMovie isn't really free. If you don't have it on your machine you have to buy iLife (not that bad of a deal), or if you do have it on your machine then you bought the machine which wasn't free. - Altotus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This list isn't that great. How about Kino, Jahshaka, avidemux, transcode, ffmpeg, GOPChop, mjpegtools, CinemaPaint, ... ? That's just Linux stuff, and just the non-Beta stuff.
There's loads of great F/OSS video software out there for all the platforms. - brzlmnky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0also missing is Blender
www.blender3d.org
no only does it do 3d. but it's got an excellent NLE
it's open source and does everything those programs do. - climbon321, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Final Cut is a great program for the price. It actually gets used in professional post houses unlike anything on the list.
The Avid version that is free is ok, but it's mostly useful for learning the avid interface as many of the options are disabled. If you're looking for something to challenge FCP in it's price range check out Avid Xpress or Avid Xpress Pro. - dacheetah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It doesn't say "freeware".
Shareware and demos ARE free. They might only last 30 days, or have features locked out, or other similar restrictions that are lifted if you are willing to spend money, but regardless, the use you get out of the demo/sharware is still FREE.
Free is a relative term. Also you are free to not use any of the products that cost money. - monergism, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Using FCP now and I have to wonder, did I pay too much? Most of the free stuff I have used is limited. I may check out the Avid one though.
- tethead, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1i don't see anything for the Apple ][e, how am i supposed to edit and upload my 8 bit LOGO animations to YouTube??
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4Blah Blah
You can add text using Filters in VirtualDub. You are just a nub.
