- iamaelephant, on 11/12/2007, -3/+173Anyone know if this version will use less memory? Right now I have only 5 tabs open and it's using over 220mb, surely something is wrong there.
- inkubux, on 11/12/2007, -6/+128I hope high memory usage is not a feature anymore...
- vault, on 11/12/2007, -2/+88As much as I like Firefox, that has always been a problem for me...both on Windows and OS X.
- paulm, on 11/09/2007, -19/+74I can not wait.
- EXreaction, on 11/09/2007, -2/+41I sure hope it is faster and uses less resources...otherwise I won't be going to FF3 any time soon (those features don't look all that interesting to me).
- norbiu, on 11/09/2007, -1/+38I'm using it right now on OS X. It's still not as smooth as Safari, but it's a *HUGE* improvement over 2.0. No more beach balls and ***** like that whenever I open a new tab. I have like 15 tabs open and it's doing pretty good.
- tehl3x, on 11/10/2007, -11/+40It's time to embrace the contraction!
- TheBSG, on 11/09/2007, -3/+31I'd like to see some actual features. CSS3 support, anyone?
- zzz@tkz, on 11/09/2007, -5/+33The second "f" isn't capitalized :.
- fugazied, on 11/09/2007, -3/+25If you want that, try opera. I hear IE 9 might have it as well.
- brstilson, on 11/12/2007, -19/+41*snore*
It's just more features that I'll never use. - PueSi, on 11/10/2007, -0/+21All i want is it to stop freezing when loading the Digg comments page (with the tree expanded) , iexplorer doesn't do that nor does opera so there must be something wrong with firefox
- SuperMoses, on 11/10/2007, -6/+26I'll just be happy if it's less buggy than 2.0
- spectre_25gt, on 11/09/2007, -2/+17CSS3 is in working draft status right now. You're not going to see browsers have full CSS3 support until it actually exists as a standard. The best thing to hope for right now is that they implement some of the modules that are mostly complete. More selectors FTW!
- theangryangel, on 11/10/2007, -2/+17The first look.
Again. - inactive, on 11/09/2007, -16/+28I'm looking forward to the enhanced zoom functionality. Firefox rules.
- VictoryGin, on 11/10/2007, -8/+19i know, "i can not wait" sikes you out, "i can" oh, this guy can wait, ".. not wait" , *****!
- matthewf01, on 11/09/2007, -0/+11they were trying to do you a favor.
- theOster, on 11/10/2007, -3/+14not saying this in the "grammer natzee" fashion, but because i had a gf that spelled it "sike" as well. i told her that it was probably more like a "psyche" out instead. the revelation was jarring to say the least.
- MicrosoftBob, on 11/10/2007, -2/+13*flagged for gratuitous reference to alleged girlfriend
- fugazied, on 11/09/2007, -3/+13Its always been more 'useful', it just hasn't been as fast, since firefox version 1.0.
What makes firefox great is its plugins for me, all those web dev plugs are so handy. If you just want to browse (and not have crashes, memory issues), then safari/opera is a much stabler, faster option. - spectre_25gt, on 11/09/2007, -1/+11Does it still freeze while tabs are loading in the background? That's one bug that drives me absolutely crazy.
- smithc2005, on 11/09/2007, -5/+15anyone know any sort of date of release? or general timeframe?
- flickerbrain, on 11/09/2007, -1/+10I think the star icon for bookmarking is a matter of accessibility. If an IE user opens Firefox, they'll see the star and know what it's supposed to do. Is it really any different from both browsers using a house icon for the homepage shortcut???
- dagamer34, on 11/09/2007, -0/+9that's due to bad web design.
- iamaelephant, on 11/09/2007, -0/+9Yeah I get this problem too, it's infuriating. I seem to get pauses on many site that use javascript. My PC is pretty decent (Athlon64 3000+, 2gb memory) so I don't know if there's something wrong with my install or what.
- Protoss, on 11/09/2007, -0/+9Firefox 3 seems to be much more aimed at cross-platform performance. I couldn't stand 2.0 on OSX, it would stall when trying to view comments on Digg, sometimes even while checking Gmail, but 3 hasn't frozen yet. They are also working on Cocoa Widgets, so it will look much nicer.
- Loonacy, on 11/09/2007, -1/+9Well now we know how you know his gay. How do you know my gay?
- frenchy64, on 11/10/2007, -0/+7About bloody time!
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 11/09/2007, -2/+9oh thank GOD they've redone the interface for osx. even with a good theme, it looked and worked like crap in os x. i know it's an awesome browser (and i still use it when i do web design), but safari just looked better-- especially i used shapeshifter themes which dont' really work in ff much.
- HigherLogic, on 11/09/2007, -0/+7Can't forget HTML5 support. Will the latest release have this? It's been nice working with HTML5 in Opera for a while now.
- grumpyrain, on 11/10/2007, -0/+7Trust me, Firefox crapping out on digg comments is not an OS X specific issue.
- dragon76, on 11/10/2007, -1/+8The only "must have" features are a SUPPOSED fix of memory leaks. I've been using the 3.0 nightly off and on for over a year, waiting for it to get to a stable point, which JUST happened recently. Most of Firefox's "must have" features are provided by add-ons.
- micklerlop, on 11/09/2007, -3/+10i dont care about the new features. I want better PERFORMANCE ... especially on OS X aiiiiiiiiiight!
- MicrosoftBob, on 11/09/2007, -4/+10It's like yahtzee except you use dradles.
- themoose, on 11/09/2007, -7/+13Looking at most of these features, I'm thinking Opera 9 already has all of them, without even thinking it.
Why people still use firefox is beyond me. Oh well, at least it's not IE. - BinaryFragger, on 11/09/2007, -0/+6It depends how long it takes to fix the most serious bugs. You can keep track of the release-blocking bugs here: http://wiki.mozilla.org/MozillaQualityAssurance:Ho ...
As for an estimated release date, the roadmap only says "late 2007 / early 2008": http://wiki.mozilla.org/ReleaseRoadmap - celticchrys, on 11/10/2007, -0/+6The 3.0 nightly probably refers to the nightly builds that are created as things slowly evolve in a software project...
- HigherLogic, on 11/09/2007, -3/+9Twelve words: Opera has most of the of the plugins you download by default!
- dh8r, on 11/10/2007, -2/+8PLEASE!!!! Better performance on OS X
- keyme, on 11/09/2007, -3/+8What about those memory leaks?
- inactive, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5Keychain support? Service Menu support? Dictionary tooltip? Maclike fonts? Does it feel like a proper Mac app at all?
- Giga, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5Perhaps the CPU load is flash animations or something? Also, I saw no reason to label the current Firefox 2.0, it didn't bring much to the table except for a new flashy version number around the time IE7 was coming out.
- quickslvr1287, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5It's MUCH faster and uses less memory. I'd still be using it now but there are still a few bugs and not all of my addons would play nice. I'm looking forward to the final release.
- BlackOp, on 11/13/2007, -5/+10Huh? Opera (and even IE, I think) has had that for a very long time.
- MrManiac, on 11/09/2007, -0/+5Personally, I'd like full SVG implementation.
- linkinpark342, on 11/09/2007, -1/+5common mistake...
i mean the keys are right next to each other...
(not quite exact quote from something on bash.org) - CoolWind, on 11/09/2007, -3/+7I have 48 tabs open and it uses only 295 mb. Hey, that's what memory is for. Oh yeah, I have at least 30 active add-ons also.
- emblemparade, on 11/09/2007, -0/+4You cannot spell.
But we still love you. ;) - volacide, on 11/09/2007, -0/+3Your CPU stores memory too?
