- thegreatanti, on 12/01/2008, -12/+219More interesting: Chrome has now steadily overtaken Opera.
- dujkan, on 12/01/2008, -4/+161now on to 30 percent market share!
- MarkusX, on 12/01/2008, -1/+134Very interesting to see these regular dips/hops in the graph.
In case anybody wonders, those are the weekends.
That shows, that IE is the most popular browser in business environments and offices.
But at home, and the weekend usage (dips/hops) shows that, many people have something else installed as their browser of choice.
In conclusion that means, if it wasn't for the corporate world, Microsoft would have it a lot harder, to make people use Internet Explorer. - StripeyMagee, on 12/01/2008, -9/+114Firefox FTW!!
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -6/+73I heart firefox. Die die IE, die.
- Jerky1312, on 12/02/2008, -6/+67If Opera wants a bigger market share, they should go open source.
- Farcanell, on 12/02/2008, -3/+55Good news, but a crappy graph used to tell it.
- firebirdx01, on 12/02/2008, -5/+47What is going on at Microsoft? They haven't released an innovative product in ages. I feel like they've been stuck in a time loop since XP.
- inactive, on 12/01/2008, -0/+35Then on to 35% percent market share!
- Shananra, on 12/02/2008, -1/+34... among other things
- sockpuppets, on 12/02/2008, -2/+30To infinity and beyond!
- haloplayer9672, on 12/01/2008, -3/+26Exactly. Group policy only works with Internet Explorer. :(
- honukai, on 12/02/2008, -4/+26I've been using Chrome, but I was using Firefox before that..I truly HATE IE and will never use it again!
- ZionicIon, on 12/02/2008, -3/+25"Firebox"? Is that the nickname for your Mom when she has her herpes outbreak?
Sorry. - daveisfera, on 12/02/2008, -0/+21It's hard to be sure, because the color choice on the graph is horrible, but it appears that IE7 actually jumps up on the weekends as well, so it appears that IE6 is the true "corporate browser".
- TheSpook, on 12/02/2008, -1/+19Hah, an (arguably) crappy Beta product versus one that has been in development for over a decade.
I give Opera an A for effort, but it was never really my style. - acegi, on 12/02/2008, -0/+17only reason to use IE is for downloading firefox
- groo68, on 12/02/2008, -2/+19ad blocking is not exactly good for the internet. its better to find ad block and don't tell anyone about it. if they don't know they can block ads they wont get that annoyed, and web sites will still make money.
- haobaba1, on 12/02/2008, -2/+19That graph sucks.
- Deadpixel1221, on 12/02/2008, -1/+16That's German for 'The the IE, the.'
- seanmc303, on 12/02/2008, -0/+14If Firefox, Opera, or Chrome was preinstalled on 90+% of all desktops I doubt IE would be doing so hot. IE is for those who do not know what a browser is, do not know that there are better browsers, or do not have admin privileges to install a better browser.
- AZRoboto, on 12/02/2008, -0/+14In one of my classes at school one person is always using MSN Explorer.
WTF? - PeterNorton, on 12/01/2008, -6/+20I love this thing. Honestly, If I think I'd be stuck with IE7 right now, I'd bury myself. Thanks for making such a great product!
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -1/+14Doesn't really help. I'm sick of people linking to that every time some one ask a real question.
- stuffradio, on 12/02/2008, -0/+13As an ex-IE lover until it kept crashing on me forcing me to switch... I must say congrats to FF! Now whenever I install a new system the things that are on top of my list of things to install first is always FF after windows updates and Virus protection!
- inactive, on 12/02/2008, -2/+15Not very helpful unless I missed something.
- ethana2, on 12/02/2008, -2/+15My advice to Microsoft:
1. Buy opera.
2. Port the IE UI to Presto
3. ???
4. PROFIT! - woofers07, on 12/02/2008, -2/+13As a web designer, this is a good sign, but sixty something percent is still way too damn much.
- tuxisawesome, on 12/02/2008, -3/+14try, catch
- MarkOfTheDead, on 12/02/2008, -3/+14IE6 is more like the "Temps on Digg and Reddit ***** around who can't install software without an administrator's password" browser.
- tomis, on 12/02/2008, -4/+15It's called Firefox now.
- ptFoe, on 12/02/2008, -1/+12look at all the ***** companies forcing users to use IE6
- plasma25, on 12/02/2008, -1/+11Yippee! Long live FireFox. Down with IE
- goleopards1, on 12/02/2008, -0/+10as long as there is a healthy ecosystem of web browsers I'm happy. Firefox pushes Microsoft to evolve and provide a pretty good browser for those who just like the default. I'd rather not see Firefox become IE with an 80%+ share, 30-40% is good with a strong contingent of Safari, Opera, Chrome, and other open source browsers.
- theloofa, on 12/02/2008, -1/+11And your comment saves me from yet another RickRoll
- n666, on 12/02/2008, -2/+12It's crappy if you hate crayons, MS Paint or noodles of various colors.
- RobotBuddha, on 12/02/2008, -0/+9Yes, ablock plus invented ad blocking and there's never been and never will be another way to do so.
- stuffradio, on 12/02/2008, -1/+10Now now, I wish luck on IE. I hope they vastly improve the browser as IE 8 comes closer and closer to getting to the final release. Remember, improvement brings competition, and competition brings innovation, innovation means better browsers!
- sremick, on 12/02/2008, -1/+10This IT admin would rather have his network be secure, and so deploys Firefox on the standard corporate image, sets it as default, and gives all employees strict instructions to use it as their primary browser.
- jamshid, on 12/01/2008, -5/+14Watch, google will make Chrome the secure browser that business trusts their employees to run, then it's goodbye Internet Explorer, and Firefox remains the browser tolerated by your IT department.
- westyvw, on 12/02/2008, -0/+9IE7 really is that bad..
- Gavagai80, on 12/02/2008, -10/+19People said if Opera wanted a larger market share they should go free. They did, and that didn't work out. Now people say they should go open source. That wouldn't work either, less than 1% of the population cares what license their browser is under.
- seanmc303, on 12/02/2008, -1/+9That may be true of IT admins that:
1. live under rocks
2. who are scared of all new software
3. who believe that only Microsoft can provide good software
4. who are lazy
5. exclusively follow the mantra "If it's not broke, don't fix it." (refer again to #4)
6. who have forgot how many security threats have been introduced by IE alone - Falldog, on 12/02/2008, -2/+10The amount of people who use which browsers has large impacts on site design due to code standardization (or lack thereof). Users and develops benefit from standardization across the major browsers.
Users are also impacted by the security of the browsers which they use. - MarkOfTheDead, on 12/02/2008, -6/+14Open source is always better as developers can look at the entire program and understand it better to implement more in the way of plugins and extensions and to also help track down bugs on an end-user level. Better flexibility and more options for the end-user (especially free easily installed ad-blocking software *hint hint*) leads to more use and overall popularity and higher adoption rates.
*****, I've used IE 2 times in the past 6 months. Once on my mother's computer when downloading firefox for her and once when troubleshooting a connection after installing an update to firefox (which was nothing more then a short outage with my isp).
IE sucks and If Opera even wants to compete they need to be more flexible. And update their ***** flash support on the Opera Wii browser. that thing is a joke. I wouldn't give opera the time of day after coding that piece of ***** to begin with, frigging Sega Dreamcast had a better web browser. - inactive, on 12/02/2008, -1/+9WOW people still use IE?? Have fun with ur ads Nerdos!
- AmbroseB, on 12/02/2008, -1/+8Netscape is 'dead': official support ended on March 1st, 2008.

Those who are nostalgic can make Firefox look like Netscape:
http://browser.netscape.com/addons
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/user/5683 ... - SSPink, on 12/02/2008, -0/+7How is that more interesting? Chrome was already ahead of Opera in September and a turd sandwich would get over a 0.71% market share if Google released it.
- ScottishMcDuff, on 12/02/2008, -2/+9Then on to the White House!!!! Bleeeeegh!!!
- thegreatanti, on 12/01/2008, -8/+15I don't. I don't like it when everything I type in the locationbar is transmitted to Google. I guess you're one of the persons who have nothing to hide huh?
