Firefox preloader makes Firefox load as fast as IE
sourceforge.net — This little program preloads Firefox into the OS so that it launches quickly each time it is called. No more waiting for the OS to load the browser or be tempted to use IE (like that temptation was really there anyways, right??)
- 1104 diggs
- digg it
- PrometheuZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Isn't this the same as leaving Firefox open but minimized??
- Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In terms of the load-up time improvement, yes.
- nikolas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not really, it won't be in your start bar (besides the system tray). Some people may say that the minimize firefox to systray extension does the samething, but this loads at startup. So it loads just as fast the first time as it does everytime after. Plus, you can actually hit the close button to do so instead of minimize.
- nikolas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Alright, I made it sound perfect in my last post, but in the mean time I've found two bugs. If you click a link in Yahoo! Messenger it just pops up the Yahoo! folder. And if you have Firefox set to clear cookies on exit, it won't do that.
- avenger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow.. This is exactly what I was looking forl.. FOREVER. I thought I was the only person with this problem becuase Firefox works fast and great on my Laptop.. Well actually everything works great on my laptop.. a little newer than my desktop.. oh well.
- retr0spectiv, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0ummm anyone who wants this functionality would go on the Firefox Extension page.... wouldnt they? what is this any good for.. anyone in the kno already knows about this.
What is up with lame diggs? - mad23dog, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Down...
- compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0This is stupid.
- mad23dog, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0^^
Nvm... - bleutuna, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Why? I don't want anything running in the background, and if it takes 3 seconds longer to open firefox vs. a constant drain on my system when its not running, i'll take the 3 seconds, thanks.
- Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1While I will happily sacrifice 25MB out of my 1024MB of RAM for snappier Firefox loading.
It's a tradeoff, which evidently we're not all willing to make. - WizardOfWar, on 07/16/2008, -0/+0Exactly, you're already sacrificing your resources for IE, and you have no choice. You're looking from the eye of someone who tries to keep every single bit of ram, but most of the average users don't consider this. So in their eyes, FX is slower than IE. This tool makes FX to play with their rules, and better than IE, the user has a choice. For people who already have tons of applications automatically loading, like screen saver stuff, messaging applications, gadget etc etc, and don't really care about performance, as they only use the computer to surf the web or write some stuff at the office, this is a great chance for firefox to fight this disadvantage. Otherwise, IE is faster for them, and they will say "no, don't install that program, I don't need it, I click on the 'e' icon, it is faster"

- ccunni, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0people should throw away their old hardware that lags in loading a web browser
- talishte, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I don't wanna load my system with program in the back ground, the firefox is realy more fast than IE7

- Abraxis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love FF, but it is a resource hog. Does this mean it'll do that even when I'm not using it if I do this?
Some of us don't want to throw away our old hardware and upgrade if we don't just have to. - Slipdisc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Even while using this app, I really can't tell a difference on my system.
Besides, FF does load as fast as IE without any modifications. - SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0if you have a modern computer you dont need this. and if you do, get rid of spyware/unnecessary services.
- Aynatix, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0IE is faster then Firefox..
- justintime32, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Hmm... doesn't really speed up FireFox loading, it already was loading as fast as IE on my computer.
IE SUCKS! - jedi55555, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1My Firefox already loads faster than IE
- TokenUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why not just preload every application you commonly use when you start up ... then walk away and get a cup of coffee.
When a PC starts up, there are so many processes loading. I would prefer to have my machine up an running faster than waiting an extra 3 seconds for my browser (Opera BTW) to load. - antiwmac, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1What?????
You guys crazy?????
you can have firefox lauched in 0.01 sec in linux.
(If you mount your libs to RAM)- WizardOfWar, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1so go to a company, tell them to move all their system to linux, rewrite every program they have etc etc

- jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Oh man...launching Firefox in 0.01 sec vs 1.0 sec is so important.
- ForumTroll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"My Firefox already loads faster than IE --jedi55555"
I'm a Firefox user myself but you're lying on this point. IE is preloaded with your OS if you're using Windows and Firefox is not. Everyone with half a brain knows this and that's the reason why it will always start faster and that's the reason people made plugins and pre-loaders like this. Do you really think that people would make plugins and pre-loaders if what you were saying is true? Firefox is a much better browser overall however one thing it does not do is load up as fast as a pre-loaded version of IE. - kevin.gc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Firefox is noticably slower than other browsers (IE, Opera), but I still use it as my main browser because it has cool extensions (All-In-One Sidebar, Adblock, Sage).
I almost never close it, and when I want to open a new window, I use ctrl-T (new tab) instead of ctrl-N, so it's instant. - GarethSaxby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As ForumTroll said, the DLL's for IE are simply prefetched on system startup. For the sake of a longer boot, you get a quicker load, so for the sake of system resources you might as well not bother. Anyway, this is far too old to really be classed as news... Oh well.
- aznchaosfryk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Firefox is increasingly faster than IE, what's the point of trying to increase the speed? Go buy a faster net connection. like T1 or something.
- daviscabral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0like Open Office Quickstarter... may be... isn't?
- Schrade, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0If you are the type of user that worries about how fast an application starts the very first time you start it, then you're probably a computer novice.
I've never understood this complaint and I probably never will. What is so damn important for the first time launch of an app after a fresh boot for it to load super fast? I'm sorry but I prefer a fast bootup rather than a fast _first time_ application launch. All subsequent launches of that app will load lots faster.
If you're the type who would rather have a slow startup and fast application launches why not just stick the firefox icon in your Startup folder?
This is almost like people making their browser full screen on a 1280x1024 and up desktop resolution. You're totally wasting display space.
Computer newbies.. gotta love em. - frankietears, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ aznchaosfryk. Loading time, not faster browsing.
- GodfreyDaniel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"Anyways" is not a word.
"C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxfirefox.exe" /Prefetch:1
Like Kevi.gc said, it's about the extensions.
When comparing out-of-the-package browsers, Opera and iRider
beat all others. - sigmatic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Too bad it's not compatible with Portable Firefox.
- n3tfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Firefox is increasingly faster than IE, what's the point of trying to increase the speed? Go buy a faster net connection. like T1 or something."
LOL, you silly worm. - TheGooseyOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what computers are you running on? Firefox loads up on my computer just as fast as IE
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0With the way Firefox doesn't clear its caches correctly, you probably don't want it running in the background if you're not using it. You do want to close it once in a while to completely clear the cache.
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Firefox loads up a lot faster than IE on my Linux box. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong??
- simjohmarts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like it it
Dugg - fuzzboxer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is one of my main complaints about Firefox, the slow start up. However, in Vista, many programs will be stored in memory, making them 10x faster than this preloader.
Still, this is a good temporary fix for Firefox and should be integrated into official releases. - Dracos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What, nobody pays attention in the Firefox installer? Firefox comes with this already, it's called Quick Launch.
- mkzelda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Since I don't use windoze I don't know how long it takes. I do know it takes less than two seconds for Firefox to start in linux for me with lots of plugins, bookmarks, and themes loaded. Also, I have no prefetching set up or bin/lib dirs loaded in ram. I am sure I could enhance launch time but I really am not bothered by < two seconds of waiting.
Despite having no need for this whatsoever, I'm supportive of Firefox and anything not Micro$oft so I'll be sure to relay this to those unforunate enough to be using windoze. - LeegleechN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm. I have about 20 plugins loaded and it still opens near instantly without any preloading. I guess this could be good for computers with slow hard drives/processors.
- Portfolioso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can anyone mirror this? I Can't download it on sf.net
- drshabazz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sure "anyways" is a word.

- compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"sure "anyways" is a word.
http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=anyways&x=0&y=0"
It may be a word, but it's not correct grammar. I learned this last year at school. The word is "archaic" which means "don't use it" - namuh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0LOL I wasn't aware that digg was a spelling bee contest! "Anyways isn't a word" Get a life asshat.
- scottrs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0If we have to read what you want to say, don't make it difficult for us. The word in question is not a big deal, but I want to strangle people who misuse the following: they're, there, their, your, you're.
Schrade: "All subsequent launches of that app will load lots faster". You are assuming the OS keeps part of that app in memory. This is not the case for every app. 3.5 seconds may not seem like a long time until you compare it to IE loading in less than one second. It makes a difference. Next time you want to browse the Internet, count off 3 seconds until you open IE. Do this every time.

Firefox already loads faster than IE. IE takes its time to open as it downloads spy infested crap. - Nateanite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't know exactly what this means, but awhile ago, this came up, kinda like to know what this is about.

Uh, no, that's to install a shortcut on the Quick Launch toolbar. - joe_mama, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Firefox sux ass, installs tons of crap spyware and extremely insecure, use Opera, it kicks the ***** out of firefox. ***** Firefox.
- motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"ummm.... lame

True dat. FF opens just as fast or faster than IE on my computers with up to 10+ extensions. I can't speak for other people's systems but that's the reality on my computers. Maybe not having ***** Java installed on my computers makes a difference. -
