- gbm85, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9^^ Yeah, some people can't even spell "half."
- lerhaupt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the ellen feiss of the firefox movement:
http://prodigem.com/foxonfire.jpg - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Interesting how reasons for Firefox are mostly related to specific features (tabs being the number one example), while the reasons for Internet Explorer are mostly completely irrelevant ("It's what I'm used to," or "I like the brand name.")
- standsolid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Opera whores are SO obnoxious! Every firefox article you complain about how you're not mentioned.
Argh.
We probably already KNOW Opera exists if we read digg. Go and spread your browser zealotry elsewhere.
In fact, show me some source, then I'll consider using it. - laughterkillsme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Obiously at a college campu because if you went to like .. harlem and asked they'd be like "gimme that camera or i'll bust a cap in yo ass beotch"
- tanveer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As one of the comments in the RB site reads:
MattO:
"I'll bet you 50bucks you'd get an inverse percentage of Firefox users if you took that survey anywhere besides New York or SF, or even in Queens vs. Washington Square Park.
msn.com is the second most accessed site on the internet simply becasue a vast majority of users don't even realize they can change their homepage, much less install an alternative browser.
NOT that I'm a MSFT fan. It's just the sad, sad truth.
(I'm a Safari guy myself)

---well, that says it all! - manfesto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Watching this video, I think it's pretty official - Firefox is no longer just for us geeks. Which makes sense - we've spent all of the last year convincing everybody we know to stop using IE.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"It's a fox that's on fire."
- Kriz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dugg. Great video.
The only reason theere were pro IE people is because they don't know how to use anything else. Props to that older guy who had the balls to out and out say, "I'm practically computer illiterate, and I'm used to Internet Explorer, but I'm learning how to use Firefox." - wallclimber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hey, we LIKE FF in Kansas, cuz it's Intelligently Designed!
- gbm85, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I get the impression that this must have been edited to favor Firefox for the simple reason that Firefox currently has about 10% market share, yet a much higher percentage than that voiced a good word for it. I do find it interesting though that NYU requires you to use Firefox.
- chrismear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not sure why everyone's getting all excited about this video. We already knew that geeky men use Firefox, and everybody else uses Internet Explorer because they don't know anything else.
- barbobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"sorry but if you need firefox to keep you safe then your ***** idiot to begin with"
Safer and using it to keep someone safe are 2 different things.
"secondly; most people that try to sound like they know what they're talking about use firefox just to be cool"
Sure, keep telling yourself that it couldnt be the extentions, the tabbed browsing, rss client etc etc it's just to be cool. nice try
"third; if you arent a ***** idiot you can use hot keys to do virtually all the same ***** with ie. and most of the other things really arent that important to people who actually have had sex with a human."
I would like to see a greasemonkey script in ie, could you please point me into this direction? Also what is this "Sex" you speak of?
"i consider myself a extremely tech oriented person and i am actually getting my degree in this subject and ive never had a problem with ie."
Just because you consider yourself good at something doesnt mean your good at it. What are you getting your degree in, being a really crappy troll? thats nice that you havent had a problem with ie, many others have.
"heard mentality unfortunately runs rampid in the tech area(ipod/linux). sorry; i ***** own your box with windows 95 machine using ie."
While its true that herd mentality is commonplace in the tech world, i would hardly cite ipod or linux as examples. ipod is usually marketed to those not so tech-savy and linux is marketed to those who are very tech-savy, with herd mentality it would seem that both of these would be wrong. I might have chosen digg.com or some other tech website where both professionals and amature techs get their geek on.
And as for the 95 comment, It's doubtful, but then i did see 4 horsemen coming over the horizon this morning...
now im all done chewing on your flame, have a nice day! - cnjiao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i like ie
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The IE users were invariably slack-jawed morons. End of debate.
- tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well for the record I use firefox. Now, she seemed to interview people from only NYU. I know my (and some other) college(s) requires us to use Firefox. I would hope many other people use Firefox atleast. Not to start a war here, but I am very impressed by Opera too, seems a bit quicker than Firefox.
- TridenTBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol, I watch that show all the time :D She's cool
- jedinate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm laughing my ass of at all the people who keep mentioning that it's edited. No *****, does anyone want to watch a an hour long video filled with people who either say "What is Firefox/IE" or "I don't use a computer", if you don't edit a man (woman in this case) on the street poll it is too long and boring.
Having said that the answers do mirror those I hear in real life when discussing browsers. Firefox users can usually tell you why they use it. Most (not all, but most that I talk to)either don't know why they use it or their answers are like those in the video "Always have used it, don't know how to use anything else or don't understand FF"
As for me, I use FF, I can't live without Tabs, Grease-monkey, BugMeNot or being so damn cool for saying I use it.
KIDDING!!! on the last part just wanted to have the haters say "See I told you it's tech heard mentality.... - robotplague, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool video...made me all warm and fuzzy inside.
- Albertpacino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2photog you dont need a giant octopus in the title, your digg speaks for it self, good job submitting it.
+digg
digg on! - doctorklein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Whatever, Amanda is really hot.
- MoeB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i dont buy into this. what was the location where this survey took place? i'm SURE this wasnt EDITed either :P seemed a bit biast
- lerhaupt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1argh!
the correct torrent link is:
http://www.prodigem.com/torrents/download/rocketboom/rocketboom-rb_05_dec_02.torrent - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not a single person mentioned Extentions. Whats up with that?
"I'm using Firefox because it's not Microsoft".
"I'm using Firefox because there are less Viruses".
COME ON PEOPLE. - captainjy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1DownloadThis, thanks for the insight. I felt that it was pretty biased. I use IE and refuse to switch because I don't have have any problems, no security issues and not browser hijacks. To each his own.
- operator99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Totally anecdotal. And of course Opera was left out. Perhaps a bit more interesting if the question was "Which Internet browser do you use most often" - we probably would have seen a number of different browsers surface.
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love firefox and wish everyone would use it, but that video is EXTREMELY BIAS.
The unfortunate truth is that the vast majority of ppl use IE. Either they were editing out most of the ppl who answered "Explorer", or they purposely chose to ask ppl who were likely to be tech-minded and therefore know about firefox. - cstcy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Firefox allowed have extensions, so it a lot better than Explorer!
- FunkyChicken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love Amanda.
- mercano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Firefox.
http://www.security.ithub.com/article/Unpatched+IE+Flaw+Is+Worse+Than+Expected/166164_1.aspx
Need I say any more? - anthony_rossi7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It seems that the only people left using Internet explore are those who
a)Don't know know what it is (cause they've been living in a box for the past year) or;
b)they are reluctant to move over (the Internet monsters are out to get them)
As all firefox users know there is no harm in switching over, no growing pains....... For the record, I use firefox...
- Agent_M, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm surprised no one mentioned extensions!
- fani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"..because I'm a FOX and I'm on FIRE..."
+DUGG - IraqManiac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0interesting... it seems kinda scripted and biased but it makes sense in reality. The people who don't like firefox are the people who aren't used to change and think of how something is just through its name
on the other hand, when firefox is first installed, when it is first started the first web page it loads:
introduces what the difference is between Internet Explorer, what tabs are and how to use them, how to use RSS, changes in terminology, etc... make it really "dumbed-down" - kill3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0amanda is cool i watch rocketboom all the time
- mojaam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The indian gy was the funniest lol. According to that clip, only the unaware or less computer saavy people are still using IE. Somebody should have mentioned firefox extentions.
- patrickloggins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To be honest, doing this in any college campus would get the same result. Walk two blocks from there and you'll probably get 80% IE users. Does it really matter if the video was edited? Can't you figure that out on your own? And who gives a ***** about Opera? This video is about two browsers, neither of which are Opera. The first Opera comment is enough. I think "Firefox - It's a fox on fire!" is a very good ad campaign. Someone needs to put this on Firefox Flicks. Not me. I'm eating a sandwich.
- jedinate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oops meant to say "Most IE users(not all, but most that I talk to)either...
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dirty lies!
They don't add in the people that use FoxIE, which is a huge addon suite for IE that allows popup blocking, a search bar, etc. What do they say then, FF or IE?
I use FF, though. - F1R3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I could have probably figured this out without a poll.
Wow, really people use IE because its already on their computers and they are familiar with it? WOW.
People like tabs?.. I never would have guessed.
The reasons they mentioned though make you wonder what will happen when IE7 comes out with tabs, and all its similar features, and gets pre-installed.
This is by no means a scientific poll so take it at face value. - sabster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0haha i thought it was only me and all the internet whores who used firefox
- Hergio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think she meant "Best Product of 2005", as determined by PC World.
Good video. You may not get such a high FF response outside of a university. But I don't think you'd get a huge "huh?" response from people...most everyone not in a senior home knows about the internet and knows about browsers...even if all they know it as is the "little blue E on my computer". - Linuxrocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And guys I hope you realize this is the NYU campus, and the browser the campus uses is Firefox. So this poll is a little bit one sided.
- veracon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0'Best invention of 2005' -- 2005?!
- speel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0rofl at the turbin guy "cause my fox is on fire"
- deldigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I watch her show daily and that one was the most boring.who cares what people use to surf.I use
firefox and opera.
Ger - gookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0someone should do a spin-off in park somewhere in Kansas: Which browser you like best, Firefox or Opera?
- jamesey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Clearly anyone who knows browsers tends to use Firefox. If you don't, you stay with IE. Not many people know browsers.
- t-readyroc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great vid, but like some have said, definitely biased. It looked like most of the people were either university students or faculty, which inherently means they've (on average) more exposure to alternatives.
I'd like to see a follow-up in the same format in a different location. - zenghost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good thing most people are noticing the difference of firefox and its advantages... +digg
