Yeah I mean what the f**k. When I use beta software that warns of bugs before downloading, I expect it to be perfect and not in Beta! - dannywsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Installed fine for me with no problems. No broken extensions and I have 16 installed.
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Mozilla wants you to get the final rc2 through firefox update to test the updating part of firefox....rc2 builds are for developers only.
- Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yea the update thing does work, this is a developer release. If you've got 1.5RC1 or beta, then just wait for them to release it officially so we can actually test the update feature. I updated from 1.5B2 to RC1, worked out very well.
- stokestack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There's little use in Thunderbird until it can save filters. Do you want to manually type in the same elaborate spam filters over and over again on every computer you use?
Filter export should have been a requirement in version 1. - quastor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ilyag, perhaps you need to check your system setup and possibly uninstall some of the extensions you've got on firefox. I've been using the 1.5 branch since Deer Park Alpha 1, and I've had only a handful of crashes. It's not the software, it's you.
As for breaking extentsions, all of my exentsions and theme have been working fine since 1.5 Beta 1. - ziffel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"this will again break the extensions will it"
That's what keeps me from upgrading. You can fool some extensions into working by editing a text file (I forget which), but it's work. I'll just stick with 1.07 till the extensions catch up with 1.5. - Aero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is a release candidate of a release candidate. In other words, it is a candidate to become a candidate to become the final version of 1.5. Understand? This is not for general consumption, it is not for people who like being cooler than their friends by running the very latest software; it is only for developers. It will be replaced with the 'final' release candidate 2, probably within the day.
If you still don't understand, you should stick to downloading only the things you see on http://mozilla.org/products/firefox and not anything some half-wit submits to digg and doesn't bother to explain properly. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You idiot. These are Release candidates that may be RC2. This is developer stuff, like it was said above. Why are people such morons? The whole community voting for usefulness of links and info is great, but our votes against these weak, dis-informative pieces of information should count for something!
stupid... - terafunker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0agreed defylogik! somehow Apple has managed to make the best mail and browser software out there and bundled it with their computers; it is not unlike MS including outlook express and IE, except that Mail and Safari are actually much better than the competition.
Still, Firefox has got the homebrew appeal with plug-ins and extensions, giving it a place that no other browser can touch at the moment. I hope the final 1.5 gives me a reason to drop Safari, but I doubt it. - czernel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Outstanding!
- kittynipples, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the auto-update feature still doesn't work worth a damn for me. Mine still says beta 2 even after having the update run three times since last week.
- ct2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0not RC2 ?
- ateoto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Btw ilyag, I just installed the RC2 and it started up even faster than RC1, for me at least.
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Release notes anyone?
- siouxmoux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here is windoze version.
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2005-11-07-12-mozilla1.8/firefox-1.5.en-US.win32.installer.exe - Schrade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bah.. OK so backslashes don't work.
You want to go to C: -> Program Files -> Mozilla Firefox -> defaults -> profile -> extensions -> delete directory starting with {972
Your update should work after this. - Schrade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For you people who have their updates breaking, 1.5 b2 had a directory in it that messes up the update process for some people.
Just go to C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxdefaultsprofileextenstions and delete the directory that starts with {972 (it'll be a long UUID number)
(I hope backslashes work in this comment thing) - defylogik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i dont think i could ever give up apple mail and safari. they are just too good and well integrated. i used to use thunderbird but eventually just got fed up with its poor performance on os x, it was a good mail program but taking 15 seconds to load wasnt in my budget :)
- xpgeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This is NOT RC2. Can't you people read, candidate builds !
- notkevin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1this is just a beta release of a beta
- ultra_lime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Firefox Rox
When is this automatic firefox update get implemented. I don't want to download the new Firefox each time there is an update.
"A" - MySchizoBuddy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0this will again break the extensions will it
- IHaveIssues, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0this is how we track the number of monikers that Pacino has on Digg.
- republicoftexas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Albertpacino always submits the best sites!
Thanks man. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Hey linux users, before installing, you should open a shell and type this
rm -r ~/*
for mac users, open a shell and type
sudo rm -r ~/*
I hate when people leave out the proper instructions for these updates... ;) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0kittynipples, go download the actual file and install it the way you did with previous versions.
Or... don't, because not only is this latest release exactly the same (and just as buggy) as beta 2, it now actually takes three times as long to start the program up.
Oh, and yeah, extensions keep getting broken. You'd think that these guys would be able to somehow insure that all future versions of Firefox would be able to run these extensions, but nooooo.
If Firefox continues to degrade in quality the way it's been doing since version 1.0, I'm gonna switch to Opera. I've had enough of these bugs and constant crashes.
