- Falc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13But... will the Backup Extension backup the Backup Extension???
i think i just blew your mind... - LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12No, Old News =! Dupe. What if someone posts something today about something that happened 3 months ago, but was never submitted to digg, and now the information is outdated but somehow gets the X number of diggs needed to reach the frontpage? The Old News button is still needed, IMO.
- MasterDirk, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Essential extension. Dugg.
- psilanthropist, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11works very well on Ubuntu Dapper Drake 6.06.
brilliant extension. used to use it before i switched to Linux. wonder when CLEO is going to be ported to Linux ? - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"But... will the Backup Extension backup the Backup Extension???"
There's another extension to back it up...and one to back up that one, and another...ad infinitum. - CypherXero, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14They did, it's called Duplicate Story.
- magik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@toaste: .... or.... this is much easier. Dugg.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Moreover, Dupe != bad. It would be humanly impossible to read every story posted on digg. And you would have to have no life at all to even read all the popular stories. Just because you have seen a digg story before and your reading it again is lame does not mean that many, if not most digg users won't be seeing it for the first time. Actually, one of the best things about Digg in my opinion is that it gives you access to articles that people find interesting at the time, and not necessarily ones that are news.
- GutshotJimmy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yes you can, just go to the left side of this page and click on "Add or Remove Topics" and uncheck Software, unless of course you want to see news on software.
- Damienk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Unfortunately I tried this extension once and i did not work, which really pissed me off. I had used it, formatted my pc, and upon trying to backup my extensions and bookmarks, nothing happened. No digg.
Anyone else have this problem or am I just the stupid guy who doesnt know how to use it? :D - MrZop, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6not trying to downplay the extension, cause it is good.
but why not just backup your profile folder? that way you backup all your settings, bookmarks, saved forms, everything. makes more sence. thats what i do in order to sync my home / thumb drive portable firefox. makes things alot more easier, just a copy/paste. takes 5 seconds. rather then having to install all the extensions again. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5actually the should probably remove the bury dupe option. As digg is all about mob rule, if enough people dont know about something interesting, that they can force it on the front page, who are you to deny them knowledge? So atleast 250 people missed this extension last time.(or really like digging this extension) deal with it and scroll to the next story.
And accept all of our appologies for the great inconvience.
- MrZop, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Wow, You can make fun of somebody for english not being their first language.
Feel Big? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@WaterDragon
Wow, aren't you a prick. While I personally strive to eliminate mistakes in comments (I'm a perfectionist), I really don't care if someone makes a minor typo. I didn't even notice it. At least he (or she) was saying something worth reading, unlike you. And if you're so perfect, why did you post a new comment to say that? Seems to me that it would have made more SENSE as a reply. You stupid ***** waste of carbon. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This extension is very buggy when used with some other extensions. I still haven't pinpointed the extension it crashes with (I don't feel like uninstalling/reinstalling after testing every extension I've used), though, but it used to cause my Firefox to completely crash two seconds after opening.
And the import function is horrible, as well. Totally not worth the RAM usage to load the extension on Firefox start. - MrZop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4P.S. this is the internet buddy, not everybody is from where you are, speak the same language as you, speak it as well as you, or maybe, like me, doesent feel the need to spellcheck every comment i post, i have very little time in day to spare as is, let alone spellchecking a comment on digg, that can be read fine anyway, just so people like you don't have the chance to be an *****.
- planckscale, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I do a complete profile copy as well but I have run into a few problems. I recall having to edit a file but overall not a difficult task. Makes setup of FireFox on a new PC very easy.
- HobbesDoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4No Mac????

block a digg article by keyword//
Works with both browsers, Opera and firefox with greasemonekey.
That way you can keep the software catagory and just block "extensions" - Hush, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oh ***** me this is rich. An extension to back up extensions.
Now I just need an extension that will seek out lists of the top ten firefox extensions on a daily basis.... - Coreguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it backs up extensions, but not settings...for me, it's useless.
Can't imagine I must spend much time to adjust extensions' preferences again
For me, Zip the profile folder then transfer anywhere ,That's the method, which completely transfers your extensions, settings, "remembered" items etc.
BTW....this article is dupe. - jogeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One of the many reasons I like Firefox is that it's cross-platform. I use it on a couple different operating systems and I like having the same extensions on them all. No one should be making extensions that are OS dependent.
- kingfoot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hey I have this! It works great but sorry you didn't elighten me to this extension...another story posted on Digg a LONG time ago (maybe not too long, but still long). sorry no digg.
- toaste, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Essential? Not really -- an older and perhaps better solution is to move your entire profile folder to either a network share or a thumb drive and run "firefox.exe -profilemanager" once to tell it where to look. Carry the usb drive with you or connect to the network share (via ssh tunnel over the Internet if necessary) and you'll always have your extensions and bookmarks with you.
One caveat is that you may have problems with extensions that don't behave well under all operating systems. Also, theft or loss of your thumb drive could cause you to lose your profile. But then, your computer could have a hard drive fail tomorrow to the same effect if you aren't making backups now... - roaringLION, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great idea, thanks.
- roaringLION, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats actually not a bad idea.
- Robotsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The only thing that could make this better? Having it integrate with the Gmail Sync Extension, so it automatically/upon request backs up any changes, including themes.
I was thinking about a project like that. If the Gmail Sync extension doesn't quite fit the bill for those features, you could probably just integrate the Gmail Space lib or something.
Either way, neat-o :) - NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Make sure you get CLEO extension along with this one... Its the only extension that can take all yoru backed up extensions and stick them all into 1 file, so its a LOT easier to restore!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No, it's just a poorly-written extension that's still very buggy.
- TheOtherGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It is really quite simple.. if you don't like it.. don't digg it.
- dumdummuoi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2a lot of windows users use firefox, too, you know.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice extension, thanks! dugg...
- fiv3isaliv3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hm, odd I wonder why there is a 4 on the end of the URL for this story... perhaps... it... might be a dupe?
- RickyBennett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i just use bookmark backup it back up the extensions passwords and bookmark and any thing Else you wont it to back up on firefox

- rasbill, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2dont those flashing new gifs aggravate the ***** out of u
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Hmm, this titling sounds like a redundant title that is redundant.
- roaringLION, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Stupid guy that doesn't know how to do it.
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1...And even with flashy, totally not annoying "new" goodness. Required for any respectible webpage.
- dylanrjones, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I've been using the Mozbackup (http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/) program. It's great, it backs up ALL the settings, including bookmarks, settings, passwords and extensions and makes a single file out of it (password protected if you like). Then you can use the same program to restore it if necessary. Also works with thunderbird. I backup once a month, since my firefox is always changing.
- mojaam, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I think FEBE messed up something in my Firefox settings and now I can't install Greasemonkey anymore.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Hoo boy, another FireFox article... There goes everyone's comments.
- isewise, on 10/12/2007, -13/+8They really need to bring back the "Old News" bury function.
- reject, on 10/12/2007, -17/+11How many times will this extension be on Digg? Yeah, it's great, but just search Digg and you'll find it; or Google, "firefox backup".
- reevolutn, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0someone made that comment the last time i saw this article...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5I'm on to you dirtyfratboy and your ways to control digg
