* Note: This cheat sheet is for use with Firefox running on Windows XP machines. Based on the work by David Tenser. - Haroldx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9/ = cool.
- Jakelshark, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Ctrl + Shift + Delete = erase personal info
my favorite :D - Monoboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I always use alt + D. I can hit it with one hand.
- m00nmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7What is a "***** click"?
- youmustagree, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6* Note: This cheat sheet is for use with Firefox running on Windows XP machines.
- schurkenstadt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Most important shortcut is missing: middle click on links opens them in a new tab.
- brhad56, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5'What is a "***** click"?'
When you see a cop in your rearview mirror and you realize you don't have your seatbelt on.
*****! *Click* - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5They added that in for the geeks that are used to VIM
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Is CTRL+L the same as ALT+D?
- MrDolomite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5handy compilation, there's stuff on there I didn't know about. dugg
Get that sucker to print on a single page and it would be even better ;) - beatdigga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4here is the cheatsheet in png format
http://i5.tinypic.com/152dvlh.png - edietiker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hey, don't forget Ctrl G to find again (after '/', I kept on trying to use 'n')
And Ctrl Left Click to open a link in a new tab - motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3CTRL+L = ALT+D = F6
- dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Is CTRL+L the same as ALT+D?" which is also the same as F6, which is pressable with one finger.. F6 + Tab = search bar
- Ben - pr1mus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Most of the stuff in this is in the help menu under "Help for Internet Explorer Users".
Sorry, no digg. - Nyfeh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4ctrl = cmd
- Jakelshark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I remember an actual panic button (well footpedal) being sold that hooked up to the PC that would hide the window and load up a screen of something else...
If you are on Linux, just hit Ctrl Alt Left/Right to switch to another virtual desktop. Something Windows XP has as an addon for and going to be part of Vista if I remember correctly...at least Id like to think they will put in virtual desktops fulltime - Konquest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ctrl + K gets you straight to the search bar :)
- Jakelshark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I forgot about that one, I would die without it...you can also use
ctrl click = new tab
left click right click = new tab
***** click = new windows - Vesperan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The "Cached Elements" location appears to be incorrect, it should read (have added in "Local Settings"):
C:Documents and Settings[username]Local SettingsApplication DataMozillaFirefoxProfiles[profilename]Cache - jl24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In Firefox for Mac cmd doesn't necessarily substitute for ctrl. Pressing cmd-w to close a tab instead brings up the more detailed Spotlight window instead by default. I'm sure theres a Mac friendly list out there
- sauceyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As a shortcut freak and a geek, I can't believe I never knew this shortcut was there. I missed it in the list. Thanks for pointing this out. I have an extension on my home computer that lets me just start typing to search without hitting anything first and I've been too lazy to look for it again to install on my work machine. Now I don't have to as this is good enough.
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But in Soviet Russia, Firefox Cheat YOU!!!!!
- armo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they missed one out ctrl+num switches tab
- Jakelshark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2alot of it works for Linux and probably Mac as well (though you might have to use that clover some how)
- ComputerWiz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3If the site goes down, you can get the shortcuts right from Mozilla. This also shows the shortcuts for Internet Explorer and Opera.
https://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/keyboard - erll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought the article would be about one of those businesslike spreadsheets old games used to have that you could bring up if your boss walked by. That would be a nifty feature for a panic-button if you're surfing non-work related sites at work.
- pimpsallad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ctrl + T and Alt + S (sage)
- chrizzler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Copy/paste to MSWord.. select all, set font size to 10pt, then divide tekst in two columns..
And I thought I was lazy :) - person, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Compared to Opera's Keyboard Shortcut list.... Might I also mention that Opera has customizable keyboard shortcuts, too, in a GUI, so that you can make your own.... http://help.opera.com/Windows/9.02/en/keyboard.html
- m00nmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Unfortunately, since a tab of Google and a ctrl + PgDown scrolls through my recent searches, you get a no.
- saftaplan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@sauceyman, "I have an extension on my home computer that lets me just start typing to search without hitting anything first"
You don't need an extension to do that. Options -> Advanced -> General... There it is. - TheBobman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just used keyconfig & MenuManipulator to change the few keyboard shortcuts that differed from IE (mainly Ctrl+O to open a location (and alt+f for file, then o for open)
http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/keyconfig
http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/menumanipulator
it's kinda like cheating since when ever I use somebody else's firefox the keys are back to the firefox defaults... but it made switching totally 100% painless - m0nkei, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"And Ctrl-LeftClick to open a link in a new tab" or MiddleClick
- m00nmaster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It doesn't have to be XP. I'm doing all these on Win2000.
- killthespam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is there a command that allows you to open a new tab with the same address in it? Like Ctrl + N for IE?
- Austin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The CTRL + # to take you to that tab is new to me, and super handy. One less reason to grab that mouse.
- davotoula, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"And Ctrl-LeftClick to open a link in a new tab" is the first thing to learn when switching to Firefox. Productivity shoots up!
- geeko99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Clicking on scroll button on mouse (or center button if you have one) will also open links in New Tab.. so u dont have to use both keyboard n mouse combination again :D
- gappodi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The best one: "Alt-H" and then "H".
- hombrelobo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5While I understand that the site can go down due to the digg effect, I don't think you should copy and paste the list. Let the creator of the list at least enjoy a few thousands of visits !!!
- geeko99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0also Ctrl + PgUP, Ctrl + PgDown to scroll between tabs.
- lartexpert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Hmm, I do that using middle button personally....
- gypsyjoe, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3What is the shortcut to stop memory leaks?
- Bogtha, on 10/12/2007, -20/+15Alt + F4 improves productivity immensely.
