- omega255, on 03/18/2008, -5/+184Firefox 3 has a space robot pwning alien ships add-on.... BOUT TIME!
- Altanar, on 03/18/2008, -3/+93They emphasized the back button because out of all of the buttons on a browser, the back button gets used the most by a wide margin. So why not make it larger?
- estvir, on 03/18/2008, -5/+59And they should copy other things from IE 7/8 like Protected Mode, the new address bar in IE8 (How the actual domain is focused), etc.
The one thing I absolutely love about FF3 and easily my most favourite thing out of every browser is typing things in the address bar to find sites I've previously listed, not only does it do it by URL but by the actual name too.. It's just so unbelievably useful and awesome and gets no love at all, from anyone. - cyrusuncc, on 03/18/2008, -0/+50Firefox 3 beta 4 is quite fast. If my addons worked, i'd be running it full time right now!
- Altanar, on 03/18/2008, -2/+48I'll wait until final release to judge FF3. Unlike some companies, I've found that Mozilla actually means Beta when they say Beta. FF3 Beta 4 is not a release candidate and isn't supposed to be, and since I'm not up to testing my browser, I'll pass this time.
- x1101, on 03/18/2008, -17/+54If firefox 3 looks bad in vista, there is an easy solution ... don't use vista
- chris9902, on 03/18/2008, -3/+36if you go to a site like http://www.microsoft.com.example.com/ It will show example.com as the domain.
You'd be amazed how many people are fooled by something so simple. - sensor, on 03/18/2008, -0/+33It's a beta... what do you expect?
- fquednau, on 03/18/2008, -3/+35ARGH, ARGH, ARGH! For years they bitch about the slow bloatedness of crappy browsers and didn't give a f... about the looks. Now comes a browser that does it JUST RIGHT, concentrating on performance, and what happens? They bitch about the frikkin' button !1!
ARGH! - atdigg, on 03/18/2008, -1/+27not that buggy in my experience but extensions don't work yet (even with Nightly Tester Tools)
- spvn, on 03/18/2008, -12/+35Firefox looks bad in Vista? More like Vista's making Firefox look bad.
- inactive, on 03/18/2008, -4/+27Not IE or FF faults if they Use a stupid URL.
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -2/+23That has nothing to do with Microsoft, you dolt.
- ricemonster, on 03/18/2008, -15/+35Obligatory comment before clicking the link.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 03/18/2008, -2/+22Ironic? "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
- DiggLive, on 03/18/2008, -1/+20Like quoted above, "You'd be amazed how many people are fooled by something so simple"
- DiggLive, on 03/18/2008, -20/+39Firefox 3 really needs good RSS functionality like IE 7 out of the box, and I'd be willing to try it out. It also needs to get rid of that awful interface they plan on using for Vista.
- karenflower, on 03/18/2008, -0/+18FF3 b4 works great for me! I use it all the time, no problem. :)
- IdanH14, on 03/18/2008, -2/+20I love what they did to the security settings. Now the security settings screen looks a lot more clear, and probably more understandable to the average user. But they did a terrible job when it came to Firefox for Vista. As Paul Thorrutt put it on Windows Weekly: "It just looks like crap". :(
- Niten, on 03/18/2008, -0/+18To each his own, but for what it's worth FF3b4 -- loaded with as many of my favorite extensions as are already compatible -- has crashed on me less often than FF2 ever did.
- chris9902, on 03/18/2008, -18/+34That new interface is disgusting. Why is there so much emphasis on the back button? kind of ironic don't you think.
- Edan25, on 03/18/2008, -5/+21Just change the ugly new look and it's awesome.
- macdaddy23, on 03/18/2008, -4/+19Firefox 3 Looks like they hired the old Yahoo! Designers
- zplot, on 03/18/2008, -4/+19I (heart) Firefox as well. The beta might be a little buggy, but there are still worse things. [cough] IE [/cough]
- Ngamer01, on 03/18/2008, -0/+15Yeah I don't like the new keyhole design, but fortunately theme authors will have their works ready to go for Firefox 3 (if they didn't already). Theme authors don't have to abide by the keyhole design.
- MonkCanatella, on 03/18/2008, -0/+15Yep. He doesn't know what it means.
- kinggimped, on 03/18/2008, -2/+16The next person to claim that they've 'copied' IE7 just because the forward/back buttons look similar gets to eat a ***** bullet.
Most of these features aren't really going to effect my browsing experience. So, um, yeah. Will still be updating from 2.0.0.x, obviously. - JustAGamer, on 03/18/2008, -0/+14FF3 B4 on my ubuntu system working 'swimmingly' i love it i can't wait for the final release
- SigmundFraud, on 03/18/2008, -0/+14Which is kind of the point, considering he's talking about the fact they focus on it for FF3, when FF2 was slow.
- sensor, on 03/18/2008, -6/+19What about del.icio.us does it not highlight icio.us? That is just confusing.
- spvn, on 03/18/2008, -0/+13no, you do... for not realizing how powerful and useful it is.
- astrotrain, on 03/18/2008, -0/+13Or get a new theme or design your own.
- sensor, on 03/18/2008, -3/+15What is the point of the domain focusing?
- Gneekman, on 03/18/2008, -0/+12You can actually get normal-sized buttons, even in the default theme, by using 'small icons' from the toolbar customization (at least on a Mac).
First thing I did after installing Beta 4 was change that and take off the Stop and Reload buttons, because I never use those. - TeacherOfHeroes, on 03/18/2008, -1/+12"When it's done." is the only release date they've given.
- Ngamer01, on 03/18/2008, -0/+10Yeah...no.
- TheodoreG, on 03/18/2008, -2/+12Does anyone know the official release date for Firefox 3?
- StormTroopr, on 03/18/2008, -0/+10i·ron·y2 /ˈaɪərni/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[ahy-er-nee] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–adjective
consisting of, containing, or resembling iron.
duh.
/s - Ngamer01, on 03/18/2008, -0/+10Firefox 3, by default, won't hog resources compared against Firefox 1 and 2. Though add-ons/plugins may still be resource hogs. Use those add-ons/plugins at your own risk.
- bosko1983, on 03/18/2008, -4/+14can they put in a feature where Firefox doesn't hang my whole system?
- PueSi, on 03/18/2008, -0/+9The lack of freezing on Digg will definitely affect your experience, you'll be surprised on how much better FF3 really is.
- richashby, on 03/18/2008, -0/+9The memory leak issues are noticeable better. One of the lead developers outlines the changes here:
http://blog.pavlov.net/2008/03/11/firefox-3-memory ... - estvir, on 03/18/2008, -1/+10Strictly, no, not all software should be developed this way.
- bowe, on 03/18/2008, -0/+9okay, but do they have a lot of problems with people missing the button? You only need to make the button so big for it to work properly. Stylistically, it's more appealing to the human eye to have balance. Was disrupting this balance necessary for those select people who can't click on the back button? Finally if you really wanted a bigger target area, it's also possible to do so without physically making the button bigger, which would help with any missed clicks. OR an even better idea, how about making the forward button only appear when there are pages to go forward to and the back button big when it is the only option? I would also guess in cases where a forward page is actually available, the number of back clicks would be more balanced with forward clicks.
- Darkhacker, on 03/18/2008, -0/+9A fifth beta has been confirmed and the beta freeze for it is March 18 (today). Once it goes through QA, Beta 5 should be out before the end of March. Assuming it goes well and a sixth beta isn't necessary, then it becomes a RC and should be ready before the end of April.
- twoboxen, on 03/18/2008, -0/+9can i go back to the "classic" downloads? the new download manager is a pain in the ass. also, I (for one) don't keep a huge history of previous downloads. is this something that a lot of you will use? just auto-clear and auto-remove mine, please.
most of the rest of the features are great. keep it up! - thestaton, on 03/18/2008, -0/+8Safari 3.1 came out today, and it's very impressive. However, it's lack of extensions is a deal breaker. Beta 4 is amazingly fast, and I love this thing.
- astrotrain, on 03/18/2008, -4/+12So your saying they should build the interface around Vista? Why? This is a browser for multiple OS'es and not just one. This is what themes and user support is for, don't like the original theme... get a new one or create your own.
- praveenmarkandu, on 03/18/2008, -0/+8no need to use anything. just compress your profiles folder and move it around as you please.
its located in %appdata%/Mozilla/Firefox in windows - SQLserver, on 03/18/2008, -4/+12Then get Linux!
