downloadsquad.com —Want to test out Firefox 3 beta without messing up all of your precious Firefox 2 settings? Easy, just install the portable version.
I have an honest question... I am an Opera user, but have tried Firefox and admired its extensibility. However, its speed and memory problems left much to be desired. How will Firefox 3.0 compare to Opera as far as speed and memory usage?
If you want to run Firefox 3 and Firefox 2 you don't need this just so you can avoid messing with Firefox 2's settings.
Just make sure you run them in different profiles. You can start it with 'firefox -P' to create a new profile or 'firefox -P profilename' to start it with the profile. If you want to run both at the same time, add -no-remote, like 'firefox -P profilename -no-remote' That prevents firefox from looking for a previously opened instance before creating a new one.
Will Firefox 3 be doing something similar to Opera's Synchronization? I've really enjoyed this feature while testing out Opera 9.5, being able to use Opera on any computer just be connecting to the online service and having my settings there too. While it's not a perfect system yet, I think more browsers should take this route.
i actually had to read the release notes to figure out what the hell they changed. it's not so apparent on first glance, but after reading them you kind of go "oh! i see!"... there are some very nice improvements. I'm excited for the final version - so long as it's faster and more lightweight than firefox2, which has become somewhat bloated
I loved my Tmobile MDA. But I had to trade it for a BB Curve. < Which is still sweet by the way... but I can't go to my banks website to access my web banking with Opera or BB browser thats the only downfall I see. Will this work with a BB at all?
Firefox would be great if it would integrate better out of the box with Google like a seamless use of Google Bookmarks directly into the browser (I know Gmarks does it well)
There is an easy way to test all programs like this... just get Sandboxie. It's a program (free, with a small 5 second timer coming up once per start) that lets you install anything into a "sandbox". It can read anything from your computer, but all writes are sent to the sandbox.
If you actually want to use the "portability", as in run the programs from a USB stick or such... you can do that with Sandboxie as well. It's much easier using a real portable version of the software you want though.
