- mrmacky, on 10/11/2007, -2/+30You're calling Beta testing (and software development process in general) *****? Are you forgetting that IE7 was in public beta at one point. Of course, the current version is just as screwed up as it was in beta, but they're Microsoft... if they screw up, they can just say they have 90% of the market share. Firefox is a great browser, and it's open source. It may not be the "best" alternative browser, but it's in the crowd that kicks the hell out of IE7.
- electioneering, on 10/11/2007, -5/+19*****! this is like the third time i've duplicated my comments. i cant take this ***** comment system anymore.
- dawgma, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14It's open source, *****. Each phase of development is made publicly available. But Mozilla will not advertise Firefox 3 until they have a release candidate...
- mrmacky, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15I've been using 3.0a6pre Nightly builds for quite some time now. It's remarkably stable, and MUCH faster. I haven't been monitoring memory usage heavily, but my computer speeds have also picked up when browsing. Regardless, I'm glad to see they're making some fast progress, and, Firefox 3 is going to be great when it's released. ^_^
- crash013, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14LOL....CNET
- _Caboose_, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9You can use Ctrl + Up / Down to select a search engine (when the search box is selected). Although, your way would definitely be more convenient.
- greatblackowl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Hahaha, real funny, *****.
- whataboutdave, on 10/11/2007, -14/+22It's a duplicate.
http://digg.com/software/Firefox_3_Feature_Complete_Beta_Headed_Your_Way - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8You sir, are an idiot. Was sticking your foot in your mouth once not enough for this topic?
- wiiaboo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8wisam, you ARE aware that you can do that since Firefox 1.5?
It's called quicksearch.
Right-click a search engine or search anything and click "Add a Keyword for this search". Then, just use that keyword in the location bar to search what you want. Examples of what I've got: youtube, digg, google, wikipedia, binsearch, imdb, anidb, whois, gamespot, among others. - electioneering, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7question: can these betas/alphas be installed separately from your current firefox?
- Skeithy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Firefox 3 is such a huge improvment over any version before it. Page rendering is lightning fast and memory usage is down to almost nothing. From the looks of it Firefox 4.0 will be as big of an improvment.
- bruenig, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6If firefox was insecure it seems like you being a windows user would be first in line.
- Tordenflesk, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Searching with Ctrl-W? Me no think so.
- wisam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Of course, if I only type "shrek", the last used search engine will be used.
- rpedro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4You can do ctrl+[up|down]arrow that will switch through the search engines. or you can alt+[up|down] and it will bring the drop down menu. This of course can be not so good if you have a *lot* of search engines installed...
- Tordenflesk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Yes, but it will take over as the standard Mozilla-based browser, even if you try to launch the older one. This is a real pain if you have a portable firefox anywhere on your system.
- wisam, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Choosing a search engine using a keyword or letter would be nice. Right now, I just hit Ctrl + K to go to the search box, but I can't choose the search engine except by the drop menu. I would like to be able to just hit Ctrl + K, then type "g shrek" to search Google for Shrek, or type "imdb shrek" to search IMDB for Shrek. This way my fingers would never leave the keyboard.
- theRIAA, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3where the ***** download it? wheres the link?
- JohnM5, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yes, and if you launch it with the parameter -no-remote you can run both FF3 & FF2 at the same time.
You should probably use two different profiles though(-P parameter/argument) - JEmerson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It means the source code will actually compile. Trunk's been in such a flux lately that I've not been able to even get it to compile cleanly to test changes. Similar situation to webkit's qt port.
- Marshalrusty, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2After releasing Alpha 6, the version was changed to Alpha7-dev, which will be renamed Beta1 on July 31st. On August 1st, the nightly build will be Beta2-dev and so on.
This is standard practice. - mvent2, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6"ill be on IE7 enjoying my non laggy, non-memory leaking, non-bloated browser."
Ha ahahahahaha *snort* HAHAHAHAHAHAHA haha HAHAHAHA - Ocelot13, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4yea...because alpha 6 is the last alpha to be released before beta....good one
- Atomic1fire, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Search bar doesnt work and Im getting Annotation errors about my Bookmarks
-_-
so is it a feature (web filter perhaps) (keeping your data safe...From you and everyone else)
or a bug - DocteurSlump, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Exactly. You can pretty much get rid of the search bar by using keyword search...
When I type anything that is not an URL into the location bar, it'll do a Google search, except if I specify imdb, wp (wikipedia), in case it'll do a search on those engines.
The only thing that would not work directly is for example "site:digg.com firefox 3"... I need to explicitly do "g site:digg.com firefox 3" for performing a Google search (and yeah, digg search feature sucks). - gsmithEIDW, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If somebody had posted the link, then others would complain that Alpha builds are for testing purposes only not for general consumption.
Perhaps its a good thing that everybody doesnt download the alpha and proclaim Firefox 3 as being poor quality because it has bugs! - darkmule, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I suppose you use Opera?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1its an internal alpha called nightly build. i got it yesterday, pretty sweet for an alpha. way better then the ***** apple calls a beta.
- Rickard, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Is this the one that's getting native OSX buttons and whatnot?
- Haplo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3@wisam: check out: http://johnbokma.com/firefox/keymarks-explained.html
- mvent2, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Did you make a new account because no-one was replying to your old one because everyone blocked you? Anyway, you keep mentioning CNET every time. I have better proof that IE7 is less secure than Firefox: Secunia. They're a proper IT security company too.
- MikeyMoose, on 01/30/2009, -0/+1http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/3.0a6/releasenotes/#download
- thegoldenavatar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Why not put something like "http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site%3Adigg.com+%s&btnG=Search" as the Location for your digg search?
Then just do a "ds firefox 3" and it'll sub in "firefox 3" for the %s but "site:digg.com" is already in the search string. - BlackWarp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I used it a while back, and I have to say that it is so much faster. I was actually quite surprised by its speed. It seemed very stable at the time and they could have fooled me into thinking it was the release candidate quite easily, and this was months ago.
- Shookit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Come on, it's a The Office quote. Bear with me here. Punny.
- ray73864, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I agree, the most annoying part (which will ruin people who need to use it) is the audio CAPTCHA, what the voice says does not match what the image says.
- presentday, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Can not wait till Opera releases Kestrel. Even though the code name sucks the browser will never be beaten by FF.
- mitchellg100, on 10/11/2007, -7/+5No im serious, heres the download page
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/?C=M;O=D - mitchellg100, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1alpha 7 is already available.....
- mousebite, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1Oh my God! Racism against Firefox!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -10/+3So?
- Shookit, on 10/11/2007, -12/+4Question: Which bear is best?
Answer: Black bear. - schoate09, on 10/11/2007, -12/+4OMG, it's teh Mozillaz, can't wait to GRAB TEH SOURCE CODEZZZ
- electioneering, on 10/11/2007, -11/+2question: can these betas/alphas be installed separately from your current firefox?
- KChaseR, on 10/11/2007, -11/+1Dupe.
Oops, beaten. - Scheissen, on 10/11/2007, -14/+2um yes.. It has been ctrl + w since the FireFox 2 Beta.
- doughboy334, on 10/11/2007, -15/+1Avant browser does most of this, excluding the plugin aspect of firefox. I used to use Avant, but the plugins really got me hooked. Glad to see Mozilla is incorporating these things, esp. the save tabs b4 quiting option.
- Lightspeed2, on 10/11/2007, -15/+1and who told you firefox was mroe secure? ill trust a cnet expert over a random forum poster who persuaded you, the idiot, to use firefox
