***** ***** ***** - TheJosher, on 10/12/2007, -16/+151My apologies for abusing the reply system, but this should be seen to save the mirrors;
This IS the same as 2.0 RC3, which was on the homepage a day or two ago.. so if you've already downloaded that you don't need to download this, as it's the same exact file. - steelmaverick, on 10/12/2007, -57/+8OMFG I'm so friggin happy! I'm jumping around in excitement!
- dolemite5005, on 10/12/2007, -88/+3Today I installed both IE7 and FF2. IE7 required about 25 mins of my time and two system restarts, while FF2 took
- dolemite5005, on 10/12/2007, -8/+231Today I installed both IE7 and FF2. IE7 required about 25 mins of my time and two system restarts, while FF2 took <30 seconds and required 0 restarts.
(had to change the less than symbol) - JuliusCaeser, on 10/12/2007, -18/+89I installed IE7 yesterday and it crashed on me twice already.
- wolf08, on 10/12/2007, -3/+139Once you finally see it, all I can say is:
about:mozilla - haleym, on 10/12/2007, -7/+62@TheJosher:
Actually, the final version and RC3 are not the same (they get different MD5 hashes), so anyone with RC3 should probably upgrade. - fatdog789, on 10/12/2007, -35/+6I installed IE7 and FF2 in under 5 minutes combined.
FF2 kept crashing though, so I've gone back to 1.5. Stability my ass. - i440, on 10/12/2007, -19/+27“Today I installed both IE7 and FF2. IE7 required about 25 mins of my time and two system restarts, while FF2 took 30 seconds and required 0 restarts.“
Yes, that is quite annoying. It's because Internet Explorer is so deeply integrated within Windows. - MrPig, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10@haleym:
The difference in hashes is only the installer. Icons/Text in the installer might have changed but that does not mean the browser has changed. Did you check the EXE? - TheJosher, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9haleym,
The MD5 on the installers may be different (I haven't checked though), but it's the same build.
RC3 is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0
and Firefox 2.0 final is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0 - Zinite, on 10/12/2007, -32/+40Perhaps the most annoying feature of Firefox 2.0 is the Close Tab button on every tab now.
To change this:
In the address box type about:config and press enter. Type "browser.tabs.closeButtons" in the Filter section. Change value as follows:
* 0 - Close button on open tab only
* 1 - Close buttons on all tabs (default)
* 2 - No close buttons at all (use middle click to close tabs)
* 3 - Close button on the far right (old school) - Guspaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12The build of Gecko used doesn't mean that the EXE is the same. Do the EXEs have the same MD5 sum?
Anyhow, the EXE itself is such a small part of firefox. A lot of the browser outside the HTML rendering engine is implemented in XUL, which IIRC are external files. They could have made some bug fixes that don't involve changing the EXE that could still have an impact.
At this point, I wouldn't assume anything; there's no harm in updating from RC3 to the final release. - BladeMelbourne, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9@Josher Re: "Firefox 2.0 final is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0"
You are wrong. It is: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.2; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/2006101023 Firefox/2.0
Maybe you blacked out and missed 13 days? That would explain your ignorance. - flippedcracker, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5@Zinite :
or just get Tab Mix Plus https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1122/ - d8cam, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7Wow...a Firefox digg submission that actually has some merit. All of the idiotic digg submissions where people say "Firefox 1.5.1.2.3 just got updated to Firefox 1.5.1.2.4" should be cast into the pits of hell.
- loconet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@haleym

- djjoemex, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1@i440, I think you don't understand why Internet Explorer 7 is much better than Firefox 2. Many Operating System new processes that will come with Windows Vista, will be exclusive for Internet Explorer,Bit Torrent accelerators, online media player services, online games services and much more will be only for Windows Vista with Internet Explorer 7, so plz research something about a new technology and no just see the surface of the product.
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@djjoemex
I never said Internet Explorer was bad software. All I said was it was somewhat annoying that we needed to reboot twice (more accurately, once) in order to install it. This might even be justified.

- buddylee415, on 10/12/2007, -364/+45The point of digg is not to post things in hopes of becoming the top story. Post stories once they happen. Not before.
- crawf061, on 10/12/2007, -22/+306do you realize who you are replying to??
I think he knows what the point of digg is - ilyag, on 10/12/2007, -16/+266buddylee415: There are several ingenious ways to come off looking like an idiot in Digg comments. At the top of the list is replying to Kevin Rose in order to tell him how this site works.
- Veamon, on 10/12/2007, -78/+31HOW DARE YOU BLASPHEME IN THE HOUSE OF ROSE!
- J03L, on 10/12/2007, -10/+30Some DNS servers are updated before others, and when a change happens, sometimes it doesn't show up everywhere at the same time. Maybe this is the reason you didn't see it before.
- sophiaperennis, on 10/12/2007, -65/+10@buddylee415
You're talking to the omniscient entity called Kevin Rose. You're saying God doesn't know God... very smart. - Kimera, on 10/12/2007, -7/+85Haha. I'm sorry, that was classic irony buddylee415.

the CREATOR of digg
i think he knows very much the point of digg since it was his idea in the first place - r2d7, on 10/12/2007, -58/+45Why don't you groupies line up and assume the position? A bunch of idiots choking on Rose's knob would also make diggnation more interesting.
- PixelCloud, on 10/12/2007, -29/+17why are you digging him down!?
THAT WAS SO FUNNY - fractured, on 10/12/2007, -18/+3The guy lynched himself. Hahaha
- invader, on 10/12/2007, -19/+5lol@ buddylee415
that was just awesome.
listen, dude, the point of *your* site is actually to show off cool youtube videos, not this """news""" BS.. quit lying to yourself..
/sarcasm - diversionmary, on 10/12/2007, -18/+3I've never seen a lower or higher amount of diggs on digg.
- captinherb, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2@diversionmary
Try this one, right at the top
http://digg.com/software/Firefox_2_0_Available_To_Public - d8cam, on 10/12/2007, -14/+41You guys bow to Kevin Rose like he is God. Walk outside and lose some weight.
- Avalontor, on 10/12/2007, -17/+4All of you Kevin fan boys should ask yourself one question. Who is more deserving of our adoration Kevin Rose who has done well in the IT world or maybe someone who protects us from danger or saves us from injury or teaches us about life? ya know, folks like fireman, policeman, doctors, nurses, teachers, parents. Many of you have misplaced your heroes.
- 4815162342, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5So he's not allowed to reply to Kevin Rose just because he created the site? I remember on TechTV a long time ago he tried to say his "friend" created the site. Once it became popular he kinda came out and said it was him. But many of you probably didn't even know about digg back then. It's very different since all of you joined (and don't look at my join date, I created a new profile for this name). But I have to agree with BuddyLee, anybody can just submit a story before something happens in order to be the first one. Stories should be submitted once they are "live."
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9i love that just about every comment Kevin Rose makes, he gets modded up over 100 times..... Way to kiss ass guys, not like you'd get kicked from Digg, or have privileges taken away from you...
- kevinrose, on 10/12/2007, -40/+242Live!
- MHKid, on 10/12/2007, -74/+7Ok, its there now, but a few minutes ago when sgarrity posted the story, the page hadn't changed yet.

- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@billyboobs34
maybe because (now im just basing this on your comment and your name) you will never be mature. There for it cant be premature.

- MHKid, on 10/12/2007, -25/+9So its okay to post stories about the future now?
/me goes to post "Bush out of office" story - onetruetweedle, on 10/12/2007, -16/+2Awesome! GO Firefox!
...build 3, please hurry...- onetruetweedle, on 10/12/2007, -26/+1Er, as an addendum - 2 isn't actually available yet. Download link still directs me to 1.5.0.7
- onetruetweedle, on 10/12/2007, -22/+3Scratch that - there it is.
- WillPate, on 11/07/2007, -8/+122Congrats to the Firefox team!
- AlexMarar, on 10/12/2007, -29/+3WOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Jowe, on 10/12/2007, -22/+2sweet!
- Stormwysper, on 11/07/2007, -4/+42I haven't downloaded it yet. Do most of the extensions (mainly adblock) work?
- eric1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I'm particularly interested in hearing about the Web Developer plug-in... anyone tried it?
- BladeOfAnduril, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30Adblock Plus works with 2.0.
- PapaBoojum, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Adblock and Adblock Plus both seem to work fine.
- mooninite, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11adblock works fine. Most extensions or "add-ons" have been updated to support 2.0.
- crpietschmann, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The Web Developer plugin still works. Or, maybe there was an update for it, I don't remember; but it does work.
- onetruetweedle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The only extensions that weren't compatible on my machine were a few graphical ones. The only extension I will miss is FasterFox, but it's team will surely update it for 2.0 ASAP.
- SpamHater, on 10/12/2007, -33/+3@Stormwysper
None of them work out of the box. The old extensions break, and some of them freeze the browser and force you to remove them manually.
You're better off waiting until your preferred extensions are ported to the new browser before upgrading.
Or you could just install IE 7 and be done with it. - Rhine23, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4The Extensions that were broken for me were, colorful tabs, crash recovery, and talkback, and my ifox theme
- ChaserHimself, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Gmail Skins isn't compatible yet
- Bokista, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Many of my most often used extensions are not yet compatible. RIR, KeywordBar, Menu Editor, Stealther, SwiftTabs, Tab Mix Plus, TabSclearSearch... Some of the stuff was integrated into FF2, but I'm so damn picky that I probably should have waited.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6nightly testers should do the trick
- zukeft, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11The latest RC of Tab Mix Plus works: http://tmp.garyr.net/dev-builds/ (the Oct. 9 build)
- mnordhoff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Menu Editor also works. Get it from https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/710/ . I don't use any of those other extensions, so I dunno about them.
- Bokista, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Gracias, amigos.
- wakaseoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4That's a good question. Many of the extensiosn I use have not been updated by their respective authors: About site ; CSS Viewer ; Live HTTP Headers ; My Stikies ; Secure Password generator ; Tab expose.
Well, I think that in most cases, the add-on might work, it's only that the install.rdf does not display the correct <em:maxVersion> - sophiaperennis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Of my extensions: Adblock, Adblock Filterset.G Updater, All-in-One Sidebar, CustomizeGoogle, del.icio.us, Map+, NoScript, PDF Download, ShowIP, and Yahoo Toolbar all work on Firefox 2.0.
The extensions Clear Cache Button, Update Notifier, and Download Embedded don't work yet.
- palatka, on 10/12/2007, -21/+5great, now i can stop hitting F5.
- NeilM, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1lol
- homestar14, on 11/07/2007, -15/+24Awesome! Best. Firefox. Ever.
- SpamHater, on 10/12/2007, -30/+1That's not saying much
- electricnet, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2Yay, finally! :D
- llbbl, on 11/07/2007, -5/+29I have a question, will it auto-update to 2.0 eventually or does everyone have to goto the website to download it.
- electricnet, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22I think you have to download it, since it's a major update.
- crpietschmann, on 10/12/2007, -19/+4That's a good question...
- bayonetblaha, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9If you're using a linux package, it will update itself. Windows users must upgrade manually, I think.
- sgarrity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31The auto-update system will kick in for the 2.0 upgrade, but not for a few days, at least.
- llbbl, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5ok thanks sgarrity
- Konquest, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4They will probably spread the auto-updates ni order to save their bandwith.
And there is no reason to think that Linux-users should auto-update and not Windows... - cbeard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18The auto-update system will automatically apply security and stability updates. We're planning on providing an "optional" update to Firefox 2 through this system, and that will likely happen in a few weeks. In the meantime, please do download through getfirefox.com. As long as you do not use a direct ftp.mozilla.org or releases.mozilla.org, we're pretty confident in our ability to handle demand, thanks to our volunteer mirror network.
- HabuMo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I have Windows, it prompted me to update first time I opened FF. Painless install.
- JudgeDredd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Thanks sgarrity. I was wondering why I couldn't update using "sudo firefox." I don't need it now as 1.5.07 seems to work ok. Besides, it will give some of the extensioins a better shot at working if I wait.
- Providence, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Awesome. Took only 25 seconds to download and install.
- markcrules, on 11/07/2007, -9/+6I am pleased to say google browser sync works as well as adblock. I always found it a pain when extensions become incompatible between releases, something I hope is going to be a thing of the past...
- dveditz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Unfortunately some extension authors don't bother to update until the last minute. Why? I don't know, getting extensions to work is partly the point of the "Release Candidate" releases. Anyway, I know several of my extensions that were incompatible yesterday are working today... if you have a lot of them or are worried about it then wait a few days.
- markcrules, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I wasn't criticizing the authors, I hope I didn't come across that way, I don't understand how the extensions work, I assumed (obviously wrongly) that the plug in system is being adjusted between releases.
- scott1, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Wow, 17 min and already has 110 diggs and on the front page!
- NeilM, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1That's nothing. I've seen stories with 17 diggs hit the homepage in 20 minutes. Explain that sh*t.
- thoand, on 10/12/2007, -15/+9Anyone else experiencing that 2.0 often freezes?
- wolf08, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yes, but after disabling all of my "incompatible" extensions that I had enabled with nightly testers' tools, that problem was solved
- motang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Nope it's rock solid on all of my computers.
- ColonelKilkenny, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Digg.com won't let you down.
One simple question with a hint of unwanted "feature" in FF and down you go.
Way to go boys, way to go. - CBTF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have not had any issues at all with this new release. It may be your old extensions.
- Jasonn, on 10/12/2007, -13/+6Very awesome. This seems to be the RC3 build.
- crpietschmann, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2I think it is.
- madeingermany, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0
Wow, this time only 3 of my extensions didn't work with the new version.
On FF 1.5 I had to disable them all ;)
I'm not so fond of the Tools/Add-Ons menu to find my extensions, btw.- motang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Really I love the fact that Themes and Extension even the installation are all in one window now. Much more organized.
- madeingermany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@motang:

But, maybe.. just maybe i don't want the bloat that comes with Opera.. the bloat i have to pay for if i want a legal copy.
Lean and free is how i like my software. - Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4Opera is faster than Firefox.
Opera is free as well, has been for a long time. - ColonelKilkenny, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Maybe championchap should pull him/herself back to the year 2006.
Opera has been free since rock and caveman (no not really, I just don't remember what was the first free & ad-free version. 8.something I think) - NeilM, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Ramble: Please don't take offense when I call you an absolute dumbass.
- mrFREEZE, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"Opera is free as well, has been for a long time."
You're missing the point. Firefox is free open source software. Opera charged people for years until they couldn't get away with it anymore. Then when they realized they couldn't bleed money from their users any longer, they decide to make it "free", as in "shove advertisements up your ass if you wanna use our browser."
Then they FINALLY made it free, but you *still* can't see the source. It doesn't matter how many nanoseconds Opera may or may not render pages faster than Firefox, I and many others support the large open source project that Firefox is a part of.
- mikey601587, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I've been waiting all day for this, I holded off from downloading firefox 2.0 from that other site. Now its OFFICIAL! w00t! ....but where do you choose themes I can't find where to. Anyone know?
- TheTankengine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Tools -> Add-Ons ... Themes tab -> click on "Get Themes" button
Alternatively, just go here -> https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/themes/ - TheTankengine, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Awkward double post! Yay!

- BladeOfAnduril, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16So, is there a difference between 2.0 RC3 and 2.0 Final?
- ipodman715, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Well, the hashes are different, but I think they're the same file.
Firefox Setup 2.0 RC 3.exe MD5: 34CBC9F8AD5D41AD37AB8BEA24CB688C
Firefox Setup 2.0.exe MD5: 8458F0417F8A23B82A2076C2FE3A0B09 - mnordhoff, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6They are the same. The MD5 checksums are different because of something with signing the file.
- ipodman715, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Well, the hashes are different, but I think they're the same file.
- flashboy131, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1anyone got the FireFTP extension to work? crashes for me.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/684/- zukeft, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Works for me. Maybe you have another extension that's incompatible with it?
- championchap, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Just updated and loaded it then.. works fine for me.
- NeilM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Indeed, works fine.
- mrFREEZE, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Works perfectly here too.
- Tetraca, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4I'll wait till K-Meleon gets the updates to its engine. I don't need all them new-fangled extensions and themes when I just need a gecko engined browser to check if my pages render correctly.
- vafada, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7upgrade and lost my bookmarks :(
TabMix Plus and Colorful Tab breaks the new tabs- sanza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I have mine stored on Drive D and 2.0 found them just fine.
Did you look in
C:Documents and SettingsUSERNAMEApplication DataMozillaFirefoxProfilesRANDOMCHARACTERS.default
for the Bookmarks backup folder? Hopefully they are still there for you. - vafada, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3nevermind... i found it.. they were still there but they aren't in the bookmark toolbar.... had to reinstall from scratch to fix it....
- spritom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Colorful tabs update available here which works:
http://home.comcast.net/~astrotronix/files/ffext/ffindex.html
There was a fix using WinRAR/Notepad, but it looks like he did the update himself and posted it on his site and hopefully it'll be on Mozilla's extension list soon. I've preached colorful tabs to a lot of people over the months... - Majken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://digg.com/software/Your_bookmarks_aren_t_lost_they_re_just_hiding
a number of people have reported missing bookmarks after installing 2. Fortunately we're on it, and they're not lost. Explanation and fix at link. - astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@spritom... Thanks
I've also updated a few other less known but powerful extensions myself and
posted them on my site.

- buddylee415, on 10/12/2007, -41/+13I am a Kevin Rose fan like many other diggers, but posting a story to digg before it happens is not right. I don't care who likes it. Stories should be true. Diggers have shot down countless stories because they were inaccurate. This one was inaccurate the time it was posted b/c it wasn't out at the time.
I guess I will post a story about the end of the world and then one day all of you will digg it.- mikey601587, on 10/12/2007, -18/+13buddylee415 ... Kevin Rose did not post this story.
- buddylee415, on 10/12/2007, -22/+8Read above to understand.

- sanza, on 10/12/2007, -11/+5Would you rather be 5 minutes late to a grand opening or 5 minutes early?
The main point is that it wasn't someone guessing when the link would be up-- it was a fact that it was coming up live any minute.
Oh my, I love the built in spell check in 2.0!!! - pauldonnelly, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5We all feel for you and your five minutes of agony when you found out that it was not up yet.

- praxis22, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1Oooooh shiny!
- TheJosher, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10This IS the same as 2.0 RC3, which was on the homepage a day or two ago.. so if you've already downloaded that you don't need to download this, as it's the same exact file.
- abdultaiyeb, on 10/12/2007, -19/+9Incase if the host crashes (as I'm sure many people were looking forward to this!):

- cbeard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23It's a technicality. We actually had pushed the bits live, but it took some time for it to roll out to all of our web servers. Thanks for your support!
(We've popped the cork on champagne, and also working on identifying a lizard that snuck into the office during the final throws of the release....)- cbeard, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10It turns out that it is Northern Aligator Lizard

- cpemma, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"...the final throws of the release..."
Firefox needs an in-context spell checker - I think you'll find that's 'throes' ;p

- slypr, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3anyone figure out how to disable stupid drop down menu on right side of tab bar?
- kingfelix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i've got some questions about the tab bar too. how do i change the width of the tabs in order to allow more than 10 tabs on the bar at once? this is pretty annoying when you're trying to move tabs around and you've got a LOT of them open. drag, drop... click the arrow, drag, drop.....
another thing that should change is that there should be no left arrow when you are at the far left of the tab bar, and no right arrow at the far right.
overall, besides the annoying changes to tab bar behavior, i love this update so far!
thanks mozilla team.

- ohcanada, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4mirror download:
http://www.mediafire.com/?8rkd11j5rta - coredump0x01, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6For a while the FTP server that hosts Firefox source code was returning a 421 (too many connections) The insane demand for this browser is just amazing.
- dveditz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Please do NOT link to ftp.mozilla.org -- that is a single non-mirrored server and our only source of nightly test builds (we really need to rename it out of the line of fire). Releases are on releases.mozilla.org, but we prefer you use the download links from the site where we can do a better job at load balancing across and use a broader set of mirrors.
- outhouseinput, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4OK, I'm sort of underwhelmed.
Me, the casual web user who doesn't use any of that fancy shmancy RSS stuff, is not really impressed.
1. Interface is shinier, but not necessarily better.
2. Each tab has a little X on it. Not amazing.
3. Spellcheck is awesome, though.
Good release, probably has lots of little stability tweaks and stuff that I don't know about, but nothing too substantial.- dburka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18The spell checking is a killer feature if you're on the PC in my opinion (of course Mac people have had this everywhere for a while). The inline search results, the UI refinements, and RSS improvements are nice too. Other stuff under the hood may not be glitzy, but overall this is a great release.
- onetruetweedle, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Yes. I was going to post just about the exact same comment.
But...it renders pages. And well. That's really all a browser should have to do.

view->text-size -> increase / decrease - ColonelKilkenny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3No it doesn't. Some extensions might be able to do a-sort-of-effect but my experiences aren't very good. Buggy as hell and won't work as good at all.
Firefox 3 maybe able to do that. If Gecko gets it. We'll see - its...Betty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1seems to me that the previous versions did the zoom, but nothing on this version ummm...
