- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34It looks like the existing FireFox. Big deal...?
- the1casey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27Those pictures are AMAZING!
Looks just like firefox 1.5 to me.... - charmedguy18, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17It looks exactly like 1.5.01 except the extentions don't work.
- deadlychicken, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14you can also close tabs by middle-clicking them
- Vogateer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14If I remember correctly, they originally had "X"s to close each tab at the beginning, then took it off, and now plan to put it back, not to mention Safari has an "X" for each tab, so no matter what, Microsoft didn't originate that "X" on each tab.
- natmaster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Hey guys, the close buttons on each tab disappear when you get too many tabs. Then only the current tab has a close button. Pretty handy, eh?
- wabbiteh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11It's likely that'd be optional, considering how many people won't like it
- middleman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I like the idea of the individual closing for each tab but I would worry about when you get more then like 10 tabs at any time. Ive seen people keep almost 25 tabs open at any one time.
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Which makes screenshots kinda pointless.
- scotsman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12There's no difference to what I'm using now! WTF?
- razorsharp84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9actually it's only in alpha...
- PoptartKing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Opera's been doing that waaaay before IE7 was even announced. And probably some other browser thought that up even earlier. Does it matter? No.
edit: Wow that was quick. As you see, it's no new innovation, just a neat thing that will make Firefox a bit spiffier. - cphuntington97, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9You can also close tabs with CTRL W
- qjones, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Um, I guess they must consider the Interface to be near perfect now. -And all of the upcoming changes will be under the hood, eh?
- st3v, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You can close a tab by pressing CTRL F4. So pressing that combination can close multiple tabs faster.
- albrad84, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Did anyone notice that some of the screens show the individual X's and some don't?
- dmron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Those are the most boring screenshots of a product I have ever seen. If you're going to post screenshots at least show off some new features other than a freaking new position for the close tab button. I mean jesus do you really think anyone is interested in these?
- patrickweber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6albrad84: The ones that don't have the tabs are when only one tab is open. When there are multiple tabs open then the x's appear. By default the tab bar is hidden if there is only one tab open but they have the tab bar turned on permanently.
- matts0344, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hope they fix the damn memory leaks. Its the only thing I don't like about Firefox.
- drilldown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The options available on Opera, Firefox 1.5, and IE7 all allow that option to be changed. Firefox I keep off tab, other browsers on tab - space available thing for me.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's nearly as unnecessary as a screenshot of a new terminal window.
"Look, ma, it does Courier!" - the1casey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4yeah, and I've had X's on my ff tabs since 2004
- dgritsko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5cosmetically, at alpha build stage, firefox 2 and firefox 1.5 are cosmetically identical. that's not what matters though, what's important is under the hood.
- Kruncher, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I thought earlier versions of Firefox were like this.
- Mike89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4We already did and we already beat your sad MS-supporting arses down ;)
- greenbox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4i think when the new version is available they should show like a small window to ask which extensions you would like to use with examples of what each of the most popular extensions can do. of course this idea is for people who have never used firefox before, just a thought.
- st3v, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8I believe Safari has X's on its tab's. I don't think Microsoft is the first one.
- PoptartKing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've been playing around with cvs build for a week or so now. Haven't really found much use for Places, but I'm sure someone will find it interesting.
- usergentoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4who really cares about the x on the tabs
I dont have x on my tabs in knoqueror I just click the tab and it goes away whats the big deal???? - Smoker88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Don't people know you can use the roll-bar to close tabs individually. Come on people.
- lionwilson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5If you guys read the story a few days ago that made it to the front page about the upcoming changes in 2.0, you'll see the roadmap, and how they're doing very few changes to the interface in Alpha 1. Apparently soon enough lots more changes are going to be made...
Plus there are a few major changes in Alpha 1 - the Places menu and the removal of the Go menu item. Not quite sure about how exactly it all works but you can see a few shots in those pictures. - TomP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just use my middle click to close windows...
- Tom | http://www.tomwrote.info - wannabetenor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6fake?
I have deerpark alpha1. It states Gecko/20060316 with a copyright of 1998-2006. Why does this one have a copyright of 2005?
I'm not accusing, just asking. - dcarpenter85, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Rather than using the x's or CTRL F4 as someone else said, you can just middle click the tab and it closes... middle click opens link in a new tab as well.
- reidypeidy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3most people i know don't use that toolbar so it's not there anyway. personally the bookmark toolbar is one of the main reasons i use firefox (i know all the other browsers have it too, but firefox looks better with it). The guy uploading the pics might have just disabled the toolbar, who knows though.
- liava, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Preferences -> Tabbed Browsing -> Features -> Close tabs when they are middle-clicked

Then again it is in beta. - keane, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Firefox has had an X on each tab since May 29, 2005 (possibly earlier)
https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=785
IE7 was first released on January 31st 2006. Whos copying who?
that is the power of extensions - razorsharp84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3the "Go" menu bar item is replaced with "History"...not a big deal though
- chriszma666, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Wow it looks just like the existing firefoxes. Surprise!
- lionwilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Was there something wrong with them before? They look the same as what I'm seeing right now.
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4the only change was the number im not seeing any other diffrentance and you can change that in about:config
- jbus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3They finally fixed the form widgets/buttons!
- duality, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yes, unfortunately. I hate it. Once you mix it with the All-in-One Gestures Extension, it gets to be a major pain. How do you turn it off?
- norbiu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Imagine how those X-s will look when you have 30+ tabs open.
I don't need it. The scroll button is MUCH better. - the1casey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't think most of us are ripping Mozilla per se, we're just making the point that showing screenshots of this is completely useless.
We already know ff is a good product, who cares about an alpha screenshot that doesn't show ANYTHING? - puzzud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3With applications I've used that have the individual close buttons for icons, I really enjoyed them. In fact, when I started using Firefox, I was kinda bummed out that they were gone.
It's not intuitive at all to have to go to the far right to close a tab, which is certainly why I right click menu close mine and some of you have your own methods (ie middle mouse click or Control + Whatever).
Forget about the whole 20 tabs argument... you shouldn't have that many tabs open in one window anyway. Typically, if I ever approach 20 tabs, it's 10 tabs in one window and 10 in the other (and each window deals with a particular subject matter). - callumj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@TomPetty; IE didn't come up with with the idea for X for each tab many browsers have them inclduing Opera.
I would like to see a really slick interface in the offical release but it looks cool so far. - dolphumous, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Most extensions have to be updated for new Firefox builds...don't fret...frat...
