- memphis442, on 10/11/2007, -11/+80I don't use iTunes for buying the DRM'd music, I just like the way it organizes the library. It's easy to search and make playlists etc.
- Azimuth1, on 10/11/2007, -10/+71I replied to the wrong comment, I'm sorry. :(
- Azimuth1, on 10/11/2007, -6/+48"But why would anyone wnat to use iTunes? Because you buy music there?"
Because it's a great player and as memphis442 said, I like the way it organises and displays the library. I've never bought anything in the iTunes Store and I don't ever intend to. - SteveMax, on 10/11/2007, -1/+32"iTunes could possibly be the worst peice of media software to date"
I believe you've never had the displeasure of using SonicStage, the damned software that Sony made us use to put music on their Walkmans (at least until a few generations ago). I had one of those devices, it's really amazing (~45 hours of battery!), but the crappy excuse of a software made it unnusable. If this software allows us to bypass the Sony crap, it is already a winner. - Ahnteis, on 10/11/2007, -7/+36macparrot, I'm pretty sure that title says "ANY".
Yup--still does. So it IS inaccurate. Whether it deserves to be buried or not for that inaccuracy is a separate question. - tempusrob, on 10/11/2007, -1/+30"doesn't work with SONY NW line of mp3 players"
Probably because, like every other damnable piece of Sony hardware, it has to use some proprietary software, cable, and communication protocol to work. - newsheatdotcom, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21iTunes is a great player... if you have the extra 60mb of memory to spare for it. I'd love it if Apple would work on knocking down the amount of memory it takes.
- lovelei, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18no support for the zune?
bummer :( - napkin1, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17Thanks for not calling it "AMAZING"
- Kratisto, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Why would I want to use a ***** music app if I don't have to? You realize people have made apps to sync their iPods with other players so they can avoid itunes?
- Endoplasmic, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Pretty cool that someone made something that let's people who enjoy using iTunes sync to something other than an iPod.
Dugg - scottmillerinva, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15lots o' friends use iTunes and really enjoy it. I don't like it as it displays almost like a spreadsheet. But I think in truth, you use what you know. If you started with WinAMP or Media Player, you're likely to keep using it.
- thehurricaneuk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11as expected really. wish i could use my zune with os x. i mean come on microsoft, apple plays nice with the ipod!
- PixelPete, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15For the people above complaining that iTunes is 'crap', or it's 'bloatware', or whatever, I've got a question....ummm...doesn't your current Mp3 manufacturer have their own software for organizing & downloading music? If so, then why are you NOT using it?
Rather than complain about what Apple is NOT doing to support your personal choice of MP3 hardware, why not complain to your MP3 MANUFACTURER to make better software that will compete with iTunes?
Furthermore, if iTunes "sucks" so badly (in your opinion), then why does a 3rd-party developer even need to create software that will let other MP3 hardware 'illegally' interoperate with such a 'crappy' piece of software like iTunes? I don't get it?!? What am I missing?
Oh that's right iTunes sucks, but there's no better software out there for organizing all your (completely stolen) music, so someone just HAD TO create this app to satisfy your 'need to steal' even more, right?
Please enlighten me. - MacParrot, on 10/11/2007, -4/+13Maybe you need a computer made by someone other than Playskool?
- mdkoch84, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9what are you talking about Mac users dont multitask?! you're an idiot.
i'm a pc user personally, but friends who use macs multitask like crazy. macs are great at doing this. - raynar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8If iTunes would just add a simple "monitor folder" action like Media Monkey does, it would be gold.
- sockboy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9It's great that it lets you use Smart Playlists on any MP3 player, easily one of the best features in iTunes.
- Nerfdude, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8i JUST sold my zune and bought an ipod because i couldn't stand the zune's software. i really wish this had come out a week ago.
- odin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8as soon as itunes can watch a folder for me, they i might use it. if not, ill use something else.
- CraigJ, on 10/11/2007, -6/+13bury
- darkyoshi, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10iTunes does it better, and the album art is generally of higher quality. All the art is something like 450x450 pixels, and they're directly from the record company, not scans.
- crazybrit, on 10/11/2007, -9/+15Winamp is terrible. iTunes is actually a really good player, except for the memory hogging and the way it handles adding files (is it too much to ask for it to be able to monitor a folder?!). It's hard to go back to iTunes after using amarok, but I think iTunes is the second best music player I've tried.
- greatblackowl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6@parent
I have an iPod as my main mp3 player, but I also have a Creative Zen that I keep in the car. It's a pain to have to update my library and all that stuff with Windows Media Player just to sync up the creative. That's why I'd use this program. - cawpin, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10@trer - Umm, no it doesn't.
- RobotGizmo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6@beaner2011
I wrote iTunes Sync and I don't expect any tips from anyone. I don't write software to get rich, I write software because I love writing software, and sometimes other people find my software useful as well. - dimplemonkey, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Apple legal team: Sir, we've detected an INNAP (Illegally Named Non-Apple Product) on our radar. Shall we proceed with an intercept?
MockTurtle: This is MockTurtle. Proceed with stage one intervention. Send them a CandD across the bow.
Apple legal team: Roger, roger.
MockTurtle: Heh, heh, heh. And now just one more thing... - nephilonic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5You can turn it off. View -> list view (as opposed to Cover Flow view)
- f4nt0m4s, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8@azimuth1
itunes is a pretty good music organizer, but when you have a massive library of 50,000+ songs it really ties down your system. it's not itunes fault that my processor can't handle the load, but there are third party solutions that don't run as slow or tie up as many resources on my computer. the other thing is itunes does run notably better on macs...and i have a PC.
and the fact i need to register to the itunes store to have itunes look for album art is craaaaaazy. correct me if i'm wrong about that.
tag and rename does it for freez! free database and amazon ftw! - matt9m5, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6So... Where is the Mac version!? The only reason i own an iPod is for the sake of itunes sync and iTunes/osx integration.
- djpants428, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8Yes, SonicStage is an absolute piece of garbage.. It makes iTunes look amazing by comparison.
- crazybrit, on 10/11/2007, -8/+13lol, it's better than that Zune Marketplace crap.
- Namco, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8molecool, no offense and all, but please stop trying to push the term PMP on us. Just about every mp3 player is a portable music player, even the giant walkmans and discmans from the 80s and 90s. Can we just please not use the term PMP, it sounds ridiculous.
- Endoplasmic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Well unless all of your MP3 players are iPods and you take afternoon dips in your money vault people that have older mp3 players will find this useful. iTunes is awesome for managing music (sure not the people that have a gazillion of them, but whatever app can handle those people, more power to ya) and keeping podcasts up-to-date and such.
I just like this software because I can make a workout playlist in iTunes in a jiff and throw it on an old MP3 player like nothing. I do love the people trying to either a) hammer on iTunes or b) pimp some other product that does nothing about what the linked product even does
This product is small, free and just works. - nephilonic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Cool, does it have smart playlists?
Does it run on my mac? - mbthompson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Whew, thank goodness somebody came up with this. Syncing my Sansa with WMP is a terrible experience.
- JoeDiggsIt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4@Azimuth1 - Digg forgives you, child. :-)
- djbon2112, on 10/11/2007, -17/+20Yawn. Exact OPPOSITE of what I wish would happen... iTunres =bloatware. Use Winamp. And IT works with anything, always has.
- sockboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Scrooge McDuck's all about the Apple bling. ;)
- The_Dude, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I'm okay with itunes I guess. I've got a 2nd gen shuffle and an external drive stuffed full of mp3's. Funny thing is, it's easier to locate music in windows explorer just browsing folder names than it is in iTunes.
Heck, I find it easier locating stuff in plain old WMP as well. - MacParrot, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3cdnyny,
That isn't what he said at all. he said if your choice in music players doesn't have decent software, why are you complaining when someone makes software to interface it with iTunes. I think you're trying too hard to be offended. - shank2001, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Go for the ipod... I had two different Archos players and they absolutely sucked! When I got my ipod for christmas, I finally saw how great a MP3 player could be!
- skidogallard, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4@ ucg1
XMMS in Linux is a lot like Winamp. - cawpin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I use iTunes because I have an iPod. The only things that get synced for me are podcasts. I manage my own music because I've had it organized for years. Whenever this iPod dies, it's the 4th replacement, I may get a Zune and use it with this if it is supported.
- MacParrot, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2As a Mac user, I have no trouble with iTunes. I'm fortunate that my commute isn't that long so I mostly just use it for keeping up with my favorite podcasts. I've only got a couple thousand songs in my library, so it doesn't bog down on me.
Apple has added some visual effects that I really see no point for. Cover Flow looks cool on my Mac, but it doesn't work that way on my nano. They should have something in Preferences to turn some of that off if you don't want to see it. Make make it faster for those with large libraries, or those with slower computers. - deejaymc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3iTunes is decent but it is bloated. Media Monkey is lean and mean and it syncs both my iPod and Creative player. I heart you Media Monkey!
- kodoTM, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The Filter does all of the above and a hell of a lot more...
It can sync your non iPod's with iTunes, it can make instant playlists, it can recommend new music etc
http://www.thefilter.com - fivestarsoul, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2namco bro the pmp is portable media player, which includes video playback and usually other things. but he was over-doing it anyway :P
- nephilonic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2It should stay that way, I haven't looked at coverflow view since the first time I installed iTunes 7.
- guymac, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1SyncTunes does this (sync podcasts and or music playlists) with any removable media or device....
