  • shadowman99, on 08/26/2008, -19/+145I don't understand Facebook. For years people have used user-names to keep a layer of anonymity to their online activities. Then Myspace and Facebook come along. Now people are posting their names, pictures, biography, age, politics, etc...

    Tell a young person about National ID Cards and you'll hear the line "***** that. I don't need big brother." For a brief moment they get it. Your personal information is sometimes best left guarded. Then they jump on twitter and tell the world what time they took a dump.

    Anyone who values privacy shouldn't be using these services. And yet there they are...

    50% are girls who comment on people's photos and posts like it's a full time job, lonely with the post-highschool or post-college life.
    30% are male geeks trying to be cool and friending everyone whose name they remembered from anywhere
    15% are douchebags who just want to post pics of them partying
    5% are in it to keep in touch with people they no longer care about.

    Facebook is Myspace for people over 18.

    Moreover, you have a level of protection (let's not get into whether or not we "believe" Facebook's security promises) to keep your personal life only available to people you have approved to view it.
    It's like having a VIP list rather than throwing open your living room curtains and letting everyone look in.
