- shadowman99, on 08/26/2008, -19/+145I don't understand Facebook. For years people have used user-names to keep a layer of anonymity to their online activities. Then Myspace and Facebook come along. Now people are posting their names, pictures, biography, age, politics, etc...
Tell a young person about National ID Cards and you'll hear the line "***** that. I don't need big brother." For a brief moment they get it. Your personal information is sometimes best left guarded. Then they jump on twitter and tell the world what time they took a dump.
Anyone who values privacy shouldn't be using these services. And yet there they are... - neognostic, on 08/26/2008, -29/+111100,000,000 people who weren't popular in high school desperately trying to be popular.
- alapoet, on 08/26/2008, -9/+75Bet they'll get their second hundred million a lot quicker than they got the first hundred million.
- enantiodromia, on 08/26/2008, -9/+74...and 80% of those accounts are fakes, created to cheat in the Facebook games.
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -18/+78I have 5 facebook accounts!
- AmyVernon, on 08/26/2008, -5/+59That is so incredibly pathetic, actually.
- FreddieD, on 08/26/2008, -1/+55I have 5 facebook accounts *and* four popped collars. Beat that!
- Kohaxx, on 08/26/2008, -7/+56here's the quick version of the facebook population:
50% are girls who comment on people's photos and posts like it's a full time job, lonely with the post-highschool or post-college life.
30% are male geeks trying to be cool and friending everyone whose name they remembered from anywhere
15% are douchebags who just want to post pics of them partying
5% are in it to keep in touch with people they no longer care about.
Facebook is Myspace for people over 18. - benjorino, on 08/26/2008, -0/+48So if you don't want top ten lists and random funny pix.... why are you on digg?
- Zacko, on 08/26/2008, -7/+52Facebook will become SkyNet.
- fletcher008, on 08/26/2008, -1/+44Deleted? That's what you think!
- ssj2119, on 08/26/2008, -2/+41"Darn, If I had a dollar for every user we have on facebook.." - Mark Zuckerburg
- josepablos, on 08/26/2008, -24/+59and i dont have facebook
- pstroll, on 08/26/2008, -4/+35I use MyFace
- MtheoryX, on 08/26/2008, -6/+37Exponential growth? You don't say!
We haven't seen this in computing before.
/sarc - MtheoryX, on 08/26/2008, -0/+31Next time don't spam your "friends" with stupid app invites.
- erichw1504, on 08/26/2008, -5/+35I use HoffSpace.
- sockpuppets, on 08/26/2008, -1/+30You sure have a lot of faces.
- Rikkochet, on 08/26/2008, -2/+28Well, the obvious difference would be that Facebook is an opt-in system, whereas ID cards are not.
Moreover, you have a level of protection (let's not get into whether or not we "believe" Facebook's security promises) to keep your personal life only available to people you have approved to view it.
It's like having a VIP list rather than throwing open your living room curtains and letting everyone look in. - abarysh2, on 08/26/2008, -3/+28soo... does the 100,000,000 user win a prize or something?
- ssj2119, on 08/26/2008, -3/+27yeah true, good post
- NRay7882, on 08/26/2008, -3/+261000,000,000 people who have GREAT apps like SuperWall! and Scrabble on their profile. . . .Yes, I'm being sarcastic.
- MtheoryX, on 08/26/2008, -1/+24lol, I hope you're joking.
- Kohaxx, on 08/26/2008, -0/+23"Careful, that sounds a lot like Digg."
Minus the 50% girls part.
and yes Kyel I am aware that there are minors on facebook, but they are way outnumbered by post high school people who are at a disconnect with their old social groups. - inactive, on 08/26/2008, -2/+22I use SpaceBook
- MrWally, on 08/27/2008, -2/+20I use real life social interaction.
- dotorg, on 08/26/2008, -0/+18My mom even has one.
She's friends on there with my ex and not me.
WTF? - Zippo, on 08/26/2008, -1/+18Less than two years ago, Facebook was barely heard of... now I barely know anyone (save for my older relatives) that don't have an account.
- skinnyskittles, on 08/26/2008, -0/+17voluntarily giving your information and being forced to by the government are completely different
- SquareWheel, on 08/26/2008, -1/+18Now some of those "Let's get 100 million users to join this group!" groups can be justified.
- Ragarnok, on 08/27/2008, -0/+16T3000 just super poked John Connor
- HillerMylife, on 08/26/2008, -2/+18I reckon the ads have given him much more than one dollar per user.
- abarysh2, on 08/26/2008, -1/+17Story time!
- bullsfan03, on 08/26/2008, -0/+15...and?
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -10/+25my friends think i'm the noob for not having/using facebook because they can't send me top ten lists and random funny pix
- BobMysterioso, on 08/26/2008, -2/+17Drab?
You like sparkly animated backgrounds with horrible transparency abuses - like myspace profiles often have? - BXRWXR, on 08/26/2008, -3/+17They misspelled "Losers".
- ELLIS1128, on 08/26/2008, -0/+14He gets a cupcake via the facebook gifts app.
- reggplant, on 08/26/2008, -0/+13Did you delete or deactivate? AFAIK you have to contact support to delete.
- AmyVernon, on 08/26/2008, -3/+16Facebook IS SkyNet.
- ashfaqrasul, on 08/26/2008, -6/+19What is this Face Book you speak of?
- IHaveCrayons, on 08/26/2008, -9/+21Oh cool guy josepablos has to tell the world that he is the ONE that does not have Facebook. Let us all rejoice and break into song! What a cool guy! What a rebel!
- sockpuppets, on 08/26/2008, -1/+13I fail to see what Tampa Bay has to do with this.
- HillerMylife, on 08/26/2008, -0/+12Then that's your own fault for not locking down your privacy settings.
- skyshock1, on 08/26/2008, -0/+11He's going to have to make some money first.
- abarysh2, on 08/26/2008, -2/+12Yeah and 2 years ago facebook wasn't blocked at work... then the stupid interns came and started abusing it. Thanks a lot jerks!
- newsfully, on 08/26/2008, -1/+11Nope, that's Google.
- Games4Life, on 08/26/2008, -0/+10@GhostyBoy Epic!
- pathouston22, on 08/26/2008, -1/+10Actually Facebook was very popular 2, even 3 years ago. Back when only college students were able to get on it. Before apps. The way it should be.
