- soundman7718, on 04/07/2008, -4/+91Great. Another way for me to waste MORE time on Facebook.
- CatalystDM, on 04/07/2008, -2/+64It's okay, you're probably not that popular.
- LaMaquina, on 04/07/2008, -3/+58Can you hide your online status? I don't want people bothering me whenever I log on.
- KingGorilla, on 04/07/2008, -3/+43Looks like I'll be putting on my robe and wizard hat
- Yarns87, on 04/07/2008, -16/+56While I am glad that Facebook is working on new things, I don't necessarily need my AIM in my web browser.
- vpshockwave, on 04/07/2008, -0/+37YOU HAVE BEEN BITTEN BY A VAMPIRE.
CLICK HERE TO BITE BACK. - SaladCactusKing, on 04/07/2008, -11/+41No thanks.
- qwertyuio, on 04/07/2008, -3/+29Facebook chat by itself won't be of much use to me. But imagine if they opened it up, let it be used in external im clients? No searching for screen names, all your friends would already be on your buddy list from facebook. AIM would die so fast...
- kalebdf, on 04/07/2008, -1/+23I hope they provide an API or use some open Jabber protocol with their new Facebook Chat service. One of the things that MySpace IM was missing at their launch. But really is this necessary.
Who knows what the revenue of chat would be then? But does that matter?
Now people can be even more annoying: poking, wall poking, chat poking. "Go Offline."
-specialk - mvanhorn, on 04/07/2008, -3/+25It appears to be testing on the MIT, Harvard, Stanford and CAL networks right now..
- DannyDriffs, on 08/25/2008, -3/+20Slowly trying to become a hub of sorts for all things internets.
- tj111, on 04/07/2008, -0/+15I hope they open up the protocol, it'd be nice to have it integrate with pidgin.
- Alfyx, on 11/07/2008, -3/+18Me too. I don't know why everyone is against this. Don't think of it as an additional IM but the one you'll actually use to talk to people you know. I mean I'm sick of everyone scattered between MSN, Y!, etc. Plus an added benefit is that you'll see much less of the tedious ***** people post on walls.
- CapeKid, on 04/07/2008, -6/+16This is actually one of the features that I think was a good idea. I hardly open AIM since the advent of facebook, it would be nice for active friends to show up when I open facebook so I can have an actual real-time chat.
People seem to hate on any new feature that facebook rolls out, mostly for no reason. - inactive, on 04/07/2008, -1/+11Zing!
- softboiled, on 04/07/2008, -0/+10since when did we need a tour or "first impressions" of a chat app?
- andburn1, on 04/07/2008, -1/+10If you'd ***** read the ***** article, you'd ***** see that it's ***** using a jabber protocol or whatever just like ***** gmail's ***** integrated instant messenger, and it should be ***** compatible with third party ***** software. sweet.
- CtrlAltDeleteDi, on 04/07/2008, -2/+11I guess people think that implementing an instant messaging system is a bad thing. If you don't want to use it, simply turn it off. I think this is a lot better that having to use AIM/MSN/etc. to message. With this you can easily message all your friend in one central place.
- Protoss, on 04/07/2008, -0/+8This would be nice. They do a Google Talk type thing, where if you visit the site you're signed in and have a client, but you can download a standalone client too.
- Enron1985, on 04/07/2008, -1/+9Facebook is a great tool for helping people broadcast their fictional lives.
- twigboy, on 04/07/2008, -1/+9and suceeding
- aliguana, on 04/07/2008, -0/+7do we even need them now? ;)
- inactive, on 04/07/2008, -1/+8If you're using three IM clients, you're doing it wrong. Trillian, Adium, Meebo, Pidgin... There's no shortage of multi-platform IM clients.
- Adam420, on 04/07/2008, -1/+8Will we even need to have high school reunions in the future? lol
- chrisaug18, on 04/07/2008, -1/+7hmm, I think the only way I would actually use this is if I can integrate it into my digsby account
- MScrip, on 04/07/2008, -0/+6But Facebook IS a website. So, you're using a web browser to access it. Any questions?
- brendond, on 04/07/2008, -1/+7I'm curious as to whether facebook is going to archive chat information for their own purposes or not. Having access to this type of communication channel is quite a lot of data that could be mined. I'm just saying, I want to read their new ToS when it's posted.
- CtrlAltDeleteDi, on 04/07/2008, -0/+6gb2 chan
- celkin, on 04/07/2008, -0/+6FAIL
- dumpyhumpy, on 04/07/2008, -2/+7...going to?
- Lith25, on 04/07/2008, -4/+9Guess this is why the 'Network' link has vanished.
- Sail3, on 08/04/2009, -0/+5It's been working for me all day. (Wisconsin network)
- dualboy24, on 04/07/2008, -4/+9ummm this is just another thing on facebook that makes life better for the average joe.
- huwy, on 04/07/2008, -0/+5At least it'll ween us off Digg.
- herbiehancock00, on 04/07/2008, -1/+6The chat feature only works with people who are your friends. Read the article please.
- SirRealist, on 04/07/2008, -1/+5Exactly my thoughts.
- thunderer, on 04/07/2008, -0/+4It needs to be an open protocol. I only go to GMail when I'm away from my main computer, due to IMAP, and only check Facebook when I get an email. Adium, however stays open all the time. I'm sure there are many other people in the same situation.
- CatalystDM, on 04/07/2008, -0/+4I have it as well (Iowa network).
- TastyBaconTreat, on 04/07/2008, -1/+5I think the reason everyone is against is is because people use facebook to stalk people without others knowing they are online. I knew plenty of friends that would turn off their AIM just because they didn't want to give the appearance that they had no life and sat in front of the computer all day.
Now with facebook showing everyone that you are online all the time its going to make most people turn it off just like how everyone turns off the "online now" notification. - meez, on 04/07/2008, -0/+3"that would turn off their AIM just because they didn't want to give the appearance that they had no life and sat in front of the computer all day."
People do that? o.O.... I run my IM client on a remote server, and thus, I'm online 24/7. I don't understand why people care so much about appearance :. - bctrainers, on 04/07/2008, -3/+6FaceBook is going to end up like MySpace before we know it...
- synyster, on 04/07/2008, -0/+3that's ***** good idea
- xChunk, on 04/07/2008, -0/+3"You Got Mail."
- Dazer, on 04/07/2008, -0/+3Unlikely!
- betterth, on 04/07/2008, -0/+2@Meez
Appearances are everything. - Drull, on 04/07/2008, -0/+2I like how you took the time to read the headline, click on it, scroll down, click and post, about something you don't care about and don't use.
- NathanCH, on 04/07/2008, -1/+3I own a mac and use Adium but that's only because im computer literate. My mom uses MSN for mac and has no knowledge of Adium because she doesn't even consider thinking about alternatives.
- xerox, on 04/07/2008, -1/+3I'd rather take those french fries with cheese and gravy.
- MuskokasFinest, on 04/07/2008, -0/+2Nothing in Ontario yet :(
- Nothlit, on 04/07/2008, -0/+2It's also on the Carnegie Mellon network.
