- samfishercell, on 01/28/2008, -3/+87How is this clever? These applications have ruined Facebook and made it nothing more than MySpace with a nicer grid structure. I hate them on Facebook, I'll likely hate them when they spill onto the real internet. Just wait until you surf to Digg and are slammed with 32 invitations to add the Pirate vs. Whatever application.
- ThreeDee912, on 01/28/2008, -1/+79Great. So I'm going to see something like this on other sites too?
http://i30.tinypic.com/s62n2v.png - Aereo, on 01/28/2008, -1/+68Great! As if they weren't bad enough on the site itself already.
- rudy23, on 01/28/2008, -0/+62You must invite 20 friends before you can access amazon.com.
- ZincSaucier, on 01/28/2008, -0/+52So wait.. any web site can now be ruined by facebook apps, instead of just facebook?
- laaabaseball, on 01/28/2008, -5/+52Brilliant way of using Beacon to track even more people.. GREAT ..........
- rikwakefield, on 01/28/2008, -4/+37You win this thread!
- elitexero, on 01/28/2008, -6/+30Should have sold it at it's peak. Mark Zukerburg is an idiot.
- Antz0rz, on 01/28/2008, -1/+23it'd be great if all the apps that we're actually created werent so ***** STUPID. i DONT CARE what my stripper name is, i DONT CARE about your funwall with 1000000 chain letters, and I DONT CARE about pirates vs. ninjas
- captaindigger, on 01/28/2008, -2/+24You have 115 new super pokes on Digg. Blah!
- sjm20k, on 01/28/2008, -1/+21i just cant wait to play the worlds slowest game of oregon trail in the sidebar on nytimes.com
- tizzleG, on 01/28/2008, -2/+19last time facebook changed the game with its applications it became uglier than myspace.
- msaleem, on 01/28/2008, -2/+17I was just gonna mention the same. More spam for sites outside of Facebook. As if we don't have enough already.. groan.
- macmichael01, on 01/28/2008, -1/+16Great that's all we need is more annoying applications poking and prodding us on websites that we visit.
- undermine, on 01/28/2008, -0/+15Facebook changed the face of spam: your friends now spam you.
- chazcross, on 01/28/2008, -3/+16Chuck Norris
- jmreid, on 01/28/2008, -5/+18This made my day. And it's only 9:50AM
- peaceninja, on 01/28/2008, -2/+14facebook: 2; google social API: 1;
your move, google - angusm, on 01/28/2008, -2/+14If the Javascript to make Facebook apps run on other platforms is loaded from a consistent source, such as a Facebook-owned server (rather than the site's server), it should be easy enough to add a rule to AdBlock or an equivalent plugin to block it.
"angusm has added the 'I Hate Facebook Apps' application. Do you wish to add this application?" - inactive, on 01/28/2008, -3/+14yay now I can put all that ***** on my myspace!
- macmichael01, on 01/28/2008, -2/+13or not
- rikwakefield, on 01/28/2008, -2/+13Arrrghh! My concerted effort to evaide all things Facebook has failed! Again.
- inactive, on 01/28/2008, -1/+12Now if someone could actually write a Facebook application that is at all useful in any capacity.
I'm just not very excited about fighting zombies and taking movie star quizzes from *any* website now. - topgigmedia, on 01/28/2008, -4/+14no - you win all threads today :)
- cplusplus, on 01/28/2008, -0/+10This is some guy's blog about Facebook not "the" Facebook blog.
- TaintedTux, on 01/28/2008, -1/+11The new age of Facebook spam...oh great.
- phrees, on 01/28/2008, -1/+10The post is a little misleading. The API means that Facebook applications can be hosted on any web server in ordinary html files. No need for server scripting. This makes the applications easier to write (only using one language) and easier to scale (server's not doing as much work). It means that the playing field is leveled, a developer doesn't need a huge infrastructure and knowledge of clustering on the off-chance that their app sees some explosive growth. It also means that the code for these apps is exposed to anyone who knows how to 'view source' in a browser, so development will necessarily move toward open source (either de facto or as a conscious licensing choice). I believe that this change will result in the development of more useful applications that leverage other ajax api's to deliver mashups, agents, content filters and personal publishing applications.
- dxgg, on 02/05/2008, -2/+11"That's why I see Facebook still existing in 2015."
Alta Vista still exists, too, but how many people still use it? Do you see yourself using Facebook in 7 years? - kurrent, on 01/28/2008, -1/+10 i predict an extention for firefox called "faceblock" in the very near future.
- gn0stik, on 01/28/2008, -0/+7I don't know where to begin on this. The hypocrisy of facebook expecting people to adopt this when you can't run other people's apps on facebook? Or the abject stupidity of even wanting to run theirs on yours.
- bctrainers, on 01/28/2008, -1/+7I think I will forever more stay on IRC if that happens to digg and a few other sites.
- jmreid, on 01/28/2008, -0/+6I mark everything as spam and ignore.
I've noticed that it's 3 or 4 friends that send me all the junk apps. I've asked them nicely to stop, and if they don't I'll just remove them. - Lasereth, on 01/28/2008, -3/+8NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Facebook was ruined by these apps and now it's spreading around the Internet. I'm proud to say that my facebook (not that I use it anymore) has ZERO applications on it. I like some of the other people's facebooks I look at...have to scroll down for 30 seconds before you get to the comments. Looks like a flea market took a ***** on their facebook. - santaliqueur, on 01/28/2008, -0/+4Ya, it's going to suck when a game like Oregon Trail is robbed of its quickness and fast-paced excitement.
- samfishercell, on 01/28/2008, -0/+4The best part is, that's usually the work of like....one person.
- samfishercell, on 01/28/2008, -0/+4If Facebook is so innovative, why hasn't it implemented the "Remove Customization" button like Virb?
vive le Virb (http://virb.com/is) - DarthFredd, on 01/28/2008, -3/+7LOL FACEBOOK UZRS ENJOI UR EXPLOITATION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION!!!!11
No, really. When I add people as friends, I want *them* to see things about me, not the random fans of their blogs and vlogs and god knows what else. Dick move, facebook. - InThePants, on 01/28/2008, -0/+4At first I had faith in Facebook users too.... But after a full year of "Some ***** has added the HotOrNot Application!" it's become clear that Facebook apps probably won't become anything more than tacky pieces of *****.
- OwdenBowden, on 01/28/2008, -1/+5Agreed. They are in need of a big time tech pow-wow. Do on to others is key to they success. I really cannot see this company being valued at what it is. Yes, I understand the amount of users but you would have to have each user react and spend hundreds (if not Thousands) of dollars in advertised driven sales to recoup the expense of the sale. Finally, I actually can see a revolution against the Facebook creators if they keep on doing things that are more Big Brother than what our Government is currently applying.
I would actually call them Flopbook. - mCanada, on 01/28/2008, -1/+5ascii art dates back to 4000BC. It pre-dates the earth and Joan Rivers. WE DO IT TO PRESERVE ANCIENT CUSTOMZ!!!!
- monkeyrun, on 01/28/2008, -0/+4Brilliant move, now they can ask for ransom, otherwise they will destroy the internet with their Facebook apps.
- Evilsoup, on 01/28/2008, -0/+4OMG! Mark Zuckerburg is totally genius! Rather than leave a perfectly good thing alone he turned it into an obnoxious application hosting site to the detriment of facebook. Brilliant! Totally changed the game. Totally made me revisit MySpace. This new initiative will totally wrestle dominance from Google! Web 3.0 here I come.
- michaelb1, on 01/28/2008, -0/+4IMO, Facebook makes grown adults do childish things. I feel like I am on a sesame street site when I log on. People are sending me graphics depicting a piece of cake. There's a wall where people say "Dude! Whats up?"
If it improves my life I will use it. If not i just don't have the tiime for that stuff. - adooga, on 01/28/2008, -1/+4Facebook is *****.
That's all. - ssulistyo, on 01/28/2008, -0/+3http://apps.facebook.com/dopplr_wherenext/

http://apps.facebook.com/plazebook/
http://apps.facebook.com/timezones/ - Malevolant, on 01/28/2008, -0/+3The people who base their self-worth on their facebook site have no idea about the tech behind it. They are uninformed, ignorant sheep just like myspace users. Both are a blight on the internet(the sites and their users). Virtual popularity contests and breaking every web site design rule, where do I sign up?
- DYMongoose, on 01/28/2008, -0/+3Overreact much?
