- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Plus there has been freeware available for years that have these features.
Here is a list: http://palmtops.about.com/cs/productreviews/tp/Pocket_RSS.htm
I have used pRSS (http://pda.jasnapaka.com/prssr/ ) in the past with no problems, but I find that RSS readers on PDAs aren't as useful as they sound (limited memory for enclosures, screens that can't be read in the sun, etc). - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It just links to his own blog which links to the real story.
Don't give him the hits, go here: http://msmobiles.com/news.php/5267.html
I usually wouldn't mind, but he hasn't even written anything on it! - inotocracy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If you care to skip the double sentence blog:
https://my.avantgo.com/rss/ - ebob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is just Avantgo. I have used it for years. Avantgo is nice, but it is not news. Anyone who buys a new Windows Mobile device will likely have this pre-installed.
- inactive, on 11/06/2007, -1/+5Podcasts? hahaha, noone listens to podcasts anyway.
- uahgekido, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This isn't from Microsoft. Read the article.
- ebob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Avantgo is not from Microsoft. Avantgo is available for several handheld platforms (not just Microsoft).
- PhonicUK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Yea but the number of free RSS readers that support Windows Mobile 5 is, well not good. Very few developers have caught up and left WM2003
- Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Not true in the least! I love this and it is exactly what I was looking for. All other programs I've tried were okay, but not fully functional with WM5. An officially launched free title is exactly what I need! Now I can digg all day long =)
- dharm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5amazing, know how easy it is to write a rss reader in ANY language?sure maybe helpful for some people, but i dont think its frontpage material
- Yarnage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2AvantGo is the oldest application for Pocket PCs. What's worse is that it's not free depending on what features you want to use.
Lame - N3LDAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The program is free as in beer however, just not free as in freedom. Then again is it even that if you have to pay for the OS in the first place?
It's free as in beer that you drink from a glass, you still have to buy the glass to contain it. - radison2, on 10/12/2007, -10/+11Nobody cares? I care. Oh but I'm the one guy on digg.com that isn't an Ubuntu fan boy.
- ryanknapper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@radison2: Heretic! Persecute!
- safer9999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not me.
Neal Saferstein - hidebehind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd simply prefer a web interface to allow for RSS Aggregation (maybe a local HTTPd that supports PHP?)
- safer9999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks!!
Neal Saferstein - kderby2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just use NewsGator's online version; it has a mobile version that's nice.
- safer9999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks
Neal Saferstein - GlassCasket, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Isnt that kind of an oxymoron? The word 'free' and 'Windows' put toghether like that?
- safer99999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is totally true!
Neal Saferstein - palmdoc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I've ditched running standalone PDA RSS apps for Mobile Bloglines
http://bloglines.com/mobile - N3LDAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1go bloglines go...
- gadgetsguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Oops - My bad ....
but did anybody receive their free USB key ?? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8Hey now let's be fair.
Some are mac fanboys, too. - programmanager, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Updated the post to respond to a few of the comments on here. Either way, thanks to everyone for digging this article.
- PatTheRoucky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A great one for Windows Mobile Pocket PC :
Hubdog.com - safer99999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thanks
Neal Saferstein - culbeda, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Too late to the party for this comment: "This is worthless. Microsoft Sucks. My handheld runs Ubuntu" in 3...2...1...
If you don't like it, don't digg it. You don't have to go crap on everyone else's good time. - raknam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0anyone know of a way to access windows mobile phones from linux/ubuntu?
- cyberprashant, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1For windows xp and vista, you can use DocTray, a free windows tray RSS reader. http://www.kliktray.com/doctray
- safer9999, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Thanks !
Neal Saferstein - Deusiah, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Good analogy.
- madformadness, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3No digg
Links to blog.
Also, who cares? - N3LDAN, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2hey, don't forget the fedora fanboys...
- safer9999, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Its about time!
Neal Saferstein - Eraserhead, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3RSS readers that dont handle enclosures for podcasts are useless
- Deusiah, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1The program is free as in beer however, just not free as in freedom. Then again is it even that if you have to pay for the OS in the first place?
Either way about 0.1% of the people on digg will actually use this so why on earth is it on the front page? Digg's really suffering from excess newbs. I'm going back to /. lol. - gadgetsguy, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1NOTHING from Micro$hit is free .....
This is just another way for them to further distribute their Windows Genuine Advantage spyware ...
DO NOT BE FOOLED !!!
BTW ... did ANYBODY receive their free USB key several months ago?
All I received is Microsoft spam twice a week like clockwork now ... - jmccorm, on 10/12/2007, -18/+9Nobody cares... yet it makes front page. [sigh]
