- dee-vee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hey what does d*mn mean? Did you mean to say DAMN? Because everyone in the world knows what damn is and a highly doubt adding as astrick makes the word all of a sudden ok for everyone.
- htsolutions, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is what technology is all about, finding greater ways to be productive. These programs that are mentioned are free, slim, & fast and work well on USB drives. I'm going to add this link to the list of "tech news" over on my web site. I think you'll see more and more tech products utilizing the size of USB drives in the years to come.

Anyway, I dig these portable programs for USB keys. I got a free 128mb key (though not from the IBM offer that was submitted a few months ago) and loaded it with a bunch of stuff. Portable Firefox, of course, as well as Filezilla. I put Trillian Pro on, but it had trouble running on the "secure" library computers at school, so I switched it for GAIM, which also runs on a key, but no sites seem to mention. Winamp can also run without any modification, as can Media Player Classic. Faststone Image Viewer works great for browsing images and takes up a lot less space than Picasa. Then, I've got some stuff like Process Explorer for Windows 9x and NT, WinRAR, and a number of Windows .exes that are disabled on the locked down comptuers at school, like telnet.
With keys so cheap, I think I should invest in a 1gb key, though, so that I can fit some bigger programs like OpenOffice and some Mac versions of the software I like, almost all of which runs great off a USB key, as far as I know. And for those who don't have USB keys, most of these programs will also run off a CD-R without any big problem. - 12Volts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0superb - now all I need is to get a bigger USB key - my 1 gig one suddenly looks small fry
- Dycacian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love these type of Diggs, cause there is almost always a new app that I didn't think about. Keep them coming :D
BTW this is probably one of the better USB software articles I have seen on Digg. - drummerjed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Been using portable firefox and open office for a while on 256mb key. Using it right now.
- xs10shul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow! The Windows CE emulation is a great idea. Be sure to use the updated launchcd.cmd file farther down the page, so you can save files outside of the disk image.
- splitfyre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0One of the apps posted on Digg yesterday could also be included on your USB key:

I'm still waiting to get a USB key. Haven't really gotten around to it as its not absolutely necessary. Just a want, versus a need. - xamox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Fedora news just did an article on PAM for USB. What someone needs to do is write an Vitrual Machine and an OS so I can emulate it on my USB anywhere I go, without having to reboot to the device.
- nedpwolf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Not to plug my own site, but..... I have a list with reviews of all the best portable Windows freeware here... http://nedwolf.com/Freeware-Portable.htm
which can be dugg here...
