- LiamIsOnFire, on 10/10/2007, -1/+61The site looks like it was designed in the 90's...
I mean, it has the guy from Doom on there, and I don't even know why. - EclipseAgent, on 10/10/2007, -6/+30The most essential PC utility is the stupid user at the other end..
- BicBall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25The list doesn't contain Hijack This. I call shenanigans.

The real essential PC utilities. - MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -9/+28Start > Run> Cmd
"format c:" - SiR574, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Was this site made in 95?
- BrandonMills, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Hmmmm...let me add one. CPU-Z. Awesome way to find out information about whats inside without ripping open the beast. Especially things like how many memory slots are free and what type of stick is in each slot.
- JimV, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11 "RealVNC Fix Your Mom's PC From Home"
Shouldn't it read, "Fix Your Mom's PC From the Basement"? - chess007, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11 Comming next week to Diggs frontpage, The dancing hampster! ... if things continue along this road.
- lukes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8That does nothing. del /F /S /Q * on the other hand ... apparently does. http://hohle.net/scrap_post.php?post=23
- Smiths, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I know diggers are a cynical bunch, but any list that has one or two Windows utilities that I wasn't aware of is always a welcome addition to my bookmark list.
Oh... some of us do wax nostalgic about the old school Doom. It was the Bioshock of our time. - Niddik, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9They forgot one important one: One who can actually use properly use a computer.
(Really. My relatives have a multitude of anti-virus and anti-spyware software on their computers, but get problems because they never use them.) - crakbot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Why a people ragging on the look of the page. I admit it looked old but I was able to scan its content in about 5 seconds. As long as a page does it's job well, who cares.
- OBKenobi, on 10/10/2007, -9/+15Er... it's bootdisk.com
- technokon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6it has CPU-Z under hardware
- mikeyuf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Crossloop (crossloop.com) sure makes vnc easy, use it almost daily now.
- theholycow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Thunderbird is an application, not a utility. Oh, and it does have Thunderbird.
- spearce, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3synergy ftw...it's indispensable as far as I'm concerned. the application enables the use of a single mouse and keyboard for multiple computers and monitors on your network seamlessly. no clicking, button mashing, or switching devices. just move the mouse to the computer monitor you want and start clicking and typing away. great for syncing up your laptop to your desktop keyboard and mouse. no limit on the amount of computers you wish to sync. at work we've got it set up on 6 computers with monitors stacked 3 on top of 3. simple and intuitive.
http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/ - mwdcodeninja, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3this site IS older than god,... hell it was around WAY back when I was looking for drivers for my 486 and PII. I have to say tho, that it has helped me out in some serious situations.
Seriously, back in the day what did you do if A) you weren't a *nix nerd, and B) you needed a Win95 boot disk and had none available? This site is classic. (but even a classic needs a new coat of paint every now and then... :) - geoken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Actually, I can't think of a reason to not have the Doom guy on your website.
- V3X3D, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2bookmarked this sweet list. They forgot to include process scanner which is a very neat tool and recently posted here on digg http://www.processlibrary.com/processscan/
- Emachine, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Why don't I see uTorrent on that list?
- skyshock1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yes, those are fine and all if you're running a windows PC. But I'd contend the most essential PC utility is Linux. It renders many on that list moot. Or if you INSIST on using Windows, at least have Cygwin handy.
- carl25, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3i love netmeter as my bandwidth monitor
- Feasoron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What this site is missing it a real nice MIDI tune . . .
- altered, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Hey dude, the 90's were the golden years of the internet. I'll take the Doom guy over these douchbag 12 year olds going "OMGOMGOMG, chek dis pic man, iz fUnnY!!! ROFLCOPTER ^_^"
- brownspank, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If it's stupid, it's not essential.
- Ogopogo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2" I'd like to request that you if you need these files that you help me out for my time and expenses for just $4 to get instant access to EVERY file "
.. we are not amused - ayeroxor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yes, title should have a disclaimer, "WILL ONLY WORK FOR 99% OF COMPUTERS IN THE WORLD".
Very misleading indeed. - judbeasley, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And some old school GIF animations
- dilbert, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I can only see a big blue K in a cog wheel in the lower left corner of my screen and don't see Start or Run. What am I doing wrong?
- shadowspawn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I vote for systernals
- praveenmarkandu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1how old is this list? it says thunderbird 1.0
- UnstableMind, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think it's better if you do: "format c: /q"
- Kavok, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Crap Cleaner has been renamed to CCleaner. Aside from that the page looks like ***** and links directly to EXE's rather than official pages or anything remotely informative.
- Shadowhawk109, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Dude, frontpage article yesterday had a huge list of em. Quicksilver, Adium, and Firefox topped it. Get off your high horse - Macs aren't as perfect as their users would like them to be.
- Burner, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1How on earth did TrueCrypt not get on this list? Or, although expensive, Spinrite? Those are 2 of the most useful utilities I have.
- noctu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1the doom theme gave me an ansi bbs flash back.
- cyberwiz01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1In my experience though, CPU-Z sometimes mis-reports the amount of memory slots available. I've especially seen this on cheap MSI motherboards that use a VIA chipset. So sometimes the only way is to pull off the cover and see what's under the hood.
- nogami, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1There are some good utilities there, but all of the links should go to the individual authors' webpages, and not link directly to an archive unless absolutely necessary.
- LastVisibleDog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1MacMorons are so funny.
- hfisher, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Not sure how new this list is, i stopped using Proxomitron 4 years ago after it stopped being developed. Still a decent list of appz.
- rootchino, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Most essential to my job security that is...
- rootchino, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0This page is awesome full of Doom Gif's and if you click the shotgun you
get all the death animations, hell yes! I need to add these to my corporate email sig.
http://www.cslab.ntua.gr/~phib/doom1.htm - sams495, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0jesus i forgot about that
- MRCOPIATECH, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Cool
- mhmdkhamis, on 12/15/2007, -0/+0http://dir.paramegsoft.com/
http://game.paramegsoft.com/ - sams495, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0too right, whats wrong with doom guy anyways???
- mrsobvious, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0If it doesn't have any terminals/consoles for windows then it can't be a complete list of "essential utilities." Where is Winconsole? Where are the virtual desktop managers? Where is Textpad? Where are the file managers?
