Sounds similar to the PirateBay BrokeStudent alliance. - samdu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2>> Isn't this illegal? Thanks for continuing to tarnish digg.
Lighten up Frances. - manfesto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@royeiror
Checking Newegg, XP Home OEM is about 89 bucks, XP Pro is 147 bucks.
It's times like these I'm glad my college is part of the MSDN Academic Alliance - free Microsoft software (Windows 98, 2000, XP Pro, 2003 Server, SQL server, .NET SDK, VirtualPC - basically, if you're an engineering or CS student, check if your school is part of the MSDN Academic Alliance. You get access to just about every useful Microsoft product besides Office). - bemaniso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1google cache of the page

Perhaps you should reconsider your choice of OS if you have to reinstall it every so often... - cohman2001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1here, this is a mirrored link: http://addict3d.org/index.php?page=viewarticle&type=news&ID=17503&title=Enable%20XP%20Pro%20features%20on%20xp%20home
- nukemasterdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In reading this article it seems that all the workaround does is to add a couple of features to an already legal copy of xp home. This does in no way create illegal copies of xp home. This workaround does not even work.
no digg
Reported bad link - sohmageek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1now my only question is will the Windows genuine advantage work on it? I have a ledgit version of XP home (came on laptop) I tried hacking the damn thing so that I can use the administrative tools that are removed... even copied the things from xp pro... did some work but not all.
- spectre, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2'Here's a kewl idea, kiddies: Actually PURCHASE the commercial software you want to use. It's legal AND moral.'
What moral structure are you referring to that requires that I purchase buggy software? - Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, this is illegal... you might as well just download XP Pro off of PirateBay if you're going to do this.
- andyplace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I've seen confused people claim that XP Pro is more stable and faster just because it has pro in the name. "
I know- Doesnt it make you want to beat them with an ugly stick! - spectre, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2'Here's a kewl idea, kiddies: Actually PURCHASE the commercial software you want to use. It's legal AND moral.'
What moral structure are you referring to that requires that I purchase software? - peerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool, but most home users don't need Pro.
I've seen confused people claim that XP Pro is more stable and faster just because it has pro in the name. - scrapstyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I never use home edition to begin with.
- m1k3d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The reason I thought it was especially cool is that I can take a xp home upgrade that I purchased when xp came out and use this hack/workaround to create an oem version.
- m1k3d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In fact it is xp home just with xp pro features. Group management feature is not available.
- vertigoblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what are the differences between the regular home and the xp pro enabled versions?
does it actually say windows xp professional in the properties info? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I don't believe that WGA would work with this hack - one of the reg edits strips the product key, which I believe is required for WGA check."
you are correct, however, there is any easy way around this; go to your local distro site and look for a "WGA validator" (this one works: Windows.Genuine.Advantage.Validation.v1.4.393.0.CRACKED-iND) - m1k3d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can get home on a domain. It does take some doing however.
I have some info on it let me test it to be sure. - m1k3d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes WGA works the serial code is the same and it works fine.
- sparkmonkeyz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i guess that this is good for any one that pwns home, but teh really just need to get pro, they can like pirate it or somethin
- section8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone know if this makes XP Home available to log into a domain ?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1BTW, if you're curious, here's the .nfo:
Title: Windows.Genuine.Advantage.Validation.v1.4.393.0.CRACKED-iND
Released: 2005-11-30
Files: 1x5mb
Install: This is as simple as 1-2-3.
1. Boot your windows in failsafe mode
2. Unpack and copy "LegitCheckControl.dll" to your system32 dir
inside your windows directory. (overwrite the old one)
3. Restart your computer and your done!
This one is tested and works on both Windows Update and
Microsoft Download.
Greets: And same as last time, no credz for me. All credz goes to
D******** and Team ETH0, they cracked it. I only released
it since they only do iso releases these days. - tlink211, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I stumbled on to this but I haven't tried it. Posted by ginastera. Anyone know if this works?
"In IE, you can bypass the Windows Genuine Advantage check by going into Tools --> Internet Options --> Programs Tab --> Manage Add-ons --> Disable Windows Genuine Advantage.
No crack needed!!"
I think it does work. - cybermage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Then I edited the "setupreg.hiv""
He gave his PC AIDS? - bmauter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Isn't this illegal? Thanks for continuing to tarnish digg.
- longwang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'd try it if I had xp home
- AhronZombi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ntswitch.exe
- royeiror, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sometimes people paid for their windows and as i understand there's a hefty difference from home to pro
- paulchu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1and maybe you should read the links before using them to flame people, lvl...
"Furthermore, as far as i can tell, this is total BS. Your XP install will say PRO but will not have the added features of pro (not that most people would notice, but why bother then?!) so its absolutely pointless." - manfesto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't believe that WGA would work with this hack - one of the reg edits strips the product key, which I believe is required for WGA check.
Then again, WGA hasn't stopped anybody "in the know" from doing what they want to do (just look at how many people installed IE7 today). - dburanen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm curious if it really did drastic things like allow logins to domain, etc. etc. or if it's just registry hacks galore. I'm kinda hoping the latter. In any event, if someone finds it cached or anything, I'd still like to read it. .nyud.net:8090 was no help.
- wanglaoban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0link is dead :-|
- shakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Yes, this is illegal... you might as well just download XP Pro off of PirateBay if you're going to do this."
Define illegal. You're only making changes in Windows that Windows allows and comes with the tools to do (registry editor). It's not even like anything has been reverse engineered. What his hack does is violate the EULA, which is not a criminal offense. All Microsoft can do is retract their license so you would no longer be allowed to use that copy of Windows. - peerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I'm confused as to what you guys are talking about not having rdp... I d/l'ed mstsc a while ago off of ms's site and installed and ran with no problem. (I have home edition)"
I believe that only allows you to connect to other computers. Home users can "accept help" or something, but you can't connect to it like you would a XP Pro box.
I can't remember the specifics, it has been so long since I have even booted into windows. - iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm confused as to what you guys are talking about not having rdp... I d/l'ed mstsc a while ago off of ms's site and installed and ran with no problem. (I have home edition)
>>> They are talking about the "server" side of RDP, not the client side. XP Home won't allow you to "rdp" into it... it will allow you to "rdp" to another server, if you will. XP Pro has both the "server" side of RDP and the "client" side, the RDP "file" you wrote about. There is even an RDP version for Mac, which allows the MAC to "rdp" into an XP PRO, or WIndows 2000 or Windows 2003 server, but that doesn't allow someone to "rdp" into the MAC.. I hope that helps. - ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice copy and paste!
GG~
(yea, it is illegal - this is why M$ sales a more expensive version - it only takes a bit of brain cell to figure out - you can do it.)
But unless your a buisness, it's not like you'll be audited. - manfesto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@rosewood
If you were among those that were stopped from installing IE7 today by WGA, I'd google "iecustom.dll" or read the comments on http://digg.com/software/MS_Official%3A-_Microsoft_IE_Beta_2_Live_Download
that, coupled with the fact that disabling the plugin allows users to still get Windows Updates, shows just how amazingly useless and annoying WGA is.
@northLite
well done. - wuleidando, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this came 4 years too late

- tidejwe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is similar to what they will be doing with Vista. ALL Vista DVD's will include ALL Vista Build feature/options, but will only enable certain features based on your serial code, etc.
- h00ligan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think this is the yearly obligatory "cuttin edge" story.

- ShaDoWwork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0piratebay will rule the world
there will come a time when all software will be accessable to all for free
the people will make it so......
when we can all have 100mbps connects and webservers there will be no way it can be stopped
just a matter of time............. - Vasto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Your version probably only allows you to recieve it, not give it. (wow, taht sounded wrong)
- Rikushix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0err...i have xp home edition with sp2 and i have remote desktop...does that mean something.
