- JoeyBuddha, on 09/29/2009, -2/+145Dropbox is definitely one of the best file sharing/syncing applications available. HUGE move with this iPhone app!
- chesterjosiah, on 09/30/2009, -0/+122For those of you who don't know what Dropbox is, it's a sweet installed application that synchronizes files between multiple computers (Mac and PC). It syncs your files to the cloud, so even if all your computers go down, it works as a nice backup file server.
It also lets you share folders with other users, which can be way more convenient than using a USB flash drive all the time.
And it's free. - EggAndMuffin, on 09/30/2009, -19/+99… … … … … … … … … … … … … … … ______

- dhughes, on 09/30/2009, -1/+44 And Linux.
- bdawg923, on 09/29/2009, -42/+843.1 = FAIL
Most apps that work on 3.1 should have no trouble working just fine on 3.0. - kentifer, on 09/30/2009, -0/+36Those are not fads, those are words.
- scarz99, on 09/29/2009, -35/+66And most users should have no trouble upgrading to 3.1.
- timeserena, on 09/29/2009, -1/+27yes now i can manage all my webservers from my iphone!!
- igeoffi, on 09/30/2009, -11/+37Some don't want to lose the tethering hack they applied to the phone.
There's also that issue of crap battery life that some have been reporting since upgrading to 3.1.
Personally, the loss of tethering and the possibility of crap battery life outweighs the current benefits of upgrading to 3.1. Sure I won't get a couple apps in the short term but I've lived without them so far, waiting a bit longer won't hurt.
I'll probably upgrade when 3.1.1 or whatever is next is released. - R3publican, on 09/30/2009, -1/+25Wow, I can't believe this is being dug down. People must really love their non-jailbroken phones.
- Mike17102, on 09/30/2009, -4/+22No 3GS Jailbreak last I heard either.
- epgui, on 09/30/2009, -0/+183+2 = 5
- bayonetblaha, on 09/30/2009, -6/+23Android please!
- cbeach, on 09/30/2009, -10/+26Please stop whining about it not working on your 3.0 phone.
Be honest. Nothing is preventing you upgrading except your desire to get something (tethering) for free when your contract says you should pay for it. So it's YOUR problem that you're not on 3.1, not the author of Dropbox. - ConfusedCartman, on 09/30/2009, -0/+16"...so 3+2 = 6GB. That's the way it seems to work."
Sounds perfectly accurate! - dustout, on 09/30/2009, -10/+26and apple should have no trouble accepting your $5 update fee
- AChopra, on 09/30/2009, -3/+18He might be jail-broken and not want to go through the hassle. It becomes sorta annoying having to re-jailbreak every time a new FW comes out unless your actually gaining features.
- PiRATE7, on 09/30/2009, -0/+15"and so on and so forth"
- shifty2, on 09/30/2009, -0/+13It's a suppository!
- jjbud, on 09/30/2009, -0/+11Running Jailbroken 3.1 iPhone 2G right now... DropBox works great ;)
- relaxeder, on 09/30/2009, -1/+11I've created a device that makes you read this in your head, in my voice!
- chesterjosiah, on 09/30/2009, -0/+10Good point, sorry I didn't even check, as I rarely use Linux anymore. I'm not surprised though, the Dropbox team is amazing.
- WunderTroll, on 09/30/2009, -0/+9This is one of the first apps I install on my computers.
- KineticShampoo, on 09/30/2009, -0/+9To elaborate a bit, when you install it, you'll be asked where you want to have your DropBox Folder on your machine. Every file you have inside of this folder will be uploaded to the cloud automatically and be backed up.
For instance, if you write a lot of term papers just start making a habit of saving them to the Dropbox Folder, and if by suddent chance your computer explodes, no worries. Just go to getdropbox.com and login, you can browse and download a file (or a folder) all via-web.
Is this incredible or what? - blackinthmiddle, on 09/30/2009, -2/+11Sure, let us know how it works out.
- victorycig, on 09/30/2009, -0/+93.1 (though frustratingly unbreakable so far) does add APIs and audio hooks for bluetooth devices. So developers can use headsets, for example. Skype is looking into this now, but said the API isn't robust enough for them to implement it in a near release.
http://forum.skype.com/index.php?s=&showtopic= ... - eleven, on 09/30/2009, -7/+15Yes, which makes it no less awesome.
- thetanman, on 09/30/2009, -0/+8I already maxed out my free space, though after becoming dependent on it $10/month seems like a small price to pay for how useful it is when I run out of room. It's almost as if they planned it that way...
- Mtbeaver, on 09/30/2009, -2/+10Do it.
I've had an iPhone for a year now. I bitched and complained about missing features and corporate greed of Apple like crazy for the first six months. But now now I'm loving it more and more. It honestly does more than most phones. It's also so far the only touch screen phone available where the touch function works effectively and properly.
I'm sick of people bashing the iPhone. It's awesome.
The end. - Tynictansol, on 09/30/2009, -7/+15I hope they don't limit themselves to just that platform. It's nice they have builds for Linux/OSX/Windows, if not 64 bit support for all yet. Hopefully they'll have WinMo, Blackberry, Android ports available soon.
- eleven, on 09/30/2009, -1/+8It was the beer – the beer I tell you!
- dhughes, on 09/30/2009, -0/+7 I use it with Keepass, I store the .kdb file in a Dropbox folder so then any computer I use and can use Keepass means my passwords are stored in one encrypted file available from any computer I use.
- chokoboii, on 09/30/2009, -0/+7That was the longest one month wait...
- zenrhe, on 09/30/2009, -0/+7Its not jsut its basic storage and access for youself, its the sharing capabilities that also make it so great. And the lack up uploiading and downloading actions you perform do its folder sync.
- tdoyle89, on 09/30/2009, -1/+7works beautifully, allows for 'favourites' which save for offline viewing... and free! love it.
- Cige, on 09/30/2009, -7/+133.1 is un-jailbreakable so far.
That makes me angry. - MorpheousMarty, on 09/30/2009, -4/+10That's just not true, I have a jailbroken iPhone with 3.1. There is no iPhone 3GS 3.1 jailbreak, but that hardly makes it = fail.
- cards, on 09/29/2009, -33/+39Boo for requiring 3.1 firmware. Can anyone actually tell me what feature was added to 3.1 from 3.0.1 that Dropbox would require?
- pedronym, on 09/30/2009, -0/+5For the record, Soonr doesn't allow you to share a folder with more than one person if you're using a free account. Dropbox doesn't have that limitation.
- vtnerd, on 09/30/2009, -0/+5Does your method require you to actually perform actions or is it fully automatic?
Dropbox is automatic. You put files in a specific folder and they become availble online and are synced to all other computers immediately (or when those computers are reconnected to the internet).
As a student with a desktop and a laptop it was my favorite tool. I'd save all my homework in this folder. If one computer dies (or both die), the files are backed up online. If I'm using the computer lab, all my files are available through the web interface. If I accidentally delete something, I can retrieve it online. - Soragon, on 09/30/2009, -0/+5Only not for the old 3G or first Gen though...
- crash331, on 09/30/2009, -2/+7Been waiting a long time for this. About time Apple approved it.
- vdogg89, on 09/30/2009, -0/+5Unlike using your Gmail to save things, this allows you to keep your folders in sync across any laptop without having to constantly upload files. You should watch the video. http://getdropbox.com
- digitalpencil, on 09/30/2009, -0/+5Cloud computing is a style of computing in which dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources are provided as a service over the Internet. ...

just because you don't understand its usage, does not make it a fad.. how on earth is the ability to share data with different people anywhere, considered a bad thing?
DropBox simply allows you to drop files into a live folder on your desktop and instantly publish those files online via publicly accessible URLs, as well as select individuals with varying levels of permission to enable users to better collaborate online. It's kind of like an FTP server you can access direct from your desktop, with varying levels of security..
If you're working with lots of different people on different projects, where you need to instantly share information, be able to update the same files and have everything automatically backed-up, it's a God-send. - JoshDaFink, on 09/30/2009, -3/+8I will dance for you if you use mine!
