- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25MediaCoder is better and updated almost daily: http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/
- warlord, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28Look for SUPER, its converts most formats and is free
- slasherx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18http://www.any-video-converter.com/any-video-converter.exe
- Dimah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I've found SUPER to be the worst video converter out there and it doesn't work
- justinsuperstar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20Can it convert a Zune to an iPod?
- MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

It means, Garbage in Garbage out. If you start with a low quality file, there is nothing you can do (well, some filters, but that's a LONG encode and quality isn't that much better) to make the video much better. - pheedback, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I don't know if that is supposed to be a commercial for zamzar, but...
Select the files to convert
(up to 100MB in size):
That's like telling me to write documents to a floppy and not a cd-r. - daRoach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Right on, I've been looking for something to convert my divx files to wmv for watching on my xbox360.
- slacker609, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Site seems to be going up and down as it gets heavily hits. But when it is up it is worth check out.
- amoeba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4whats a good freeware tool to convert audio formats?
Actually, http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/download.htm looks pretty good. - clickr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4for me, virtualdub always rocks compared to the other stuff we get out there...
- Prospero424, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Virtualdub it's great but it takes a LIFETIME to learn how to use it."
That's what AutoGK (Auto Gordian Knot) is for.
http://www.autogk.me.uk/
It's still by far the best for ease of use/output quality. It won't do FLV, but that's about the only restriction.
But honestly, VirtualDub (especially VirtualDubMod) Isn't that hard to learn how to use.

I like it.. - nightwave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Fairly decent mirror, but it is direct to the download page.
http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Multimedia_and_Graphics/Video_and_Animation_Tools/Any_Video_Converter_Download.html - XBackstabberX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3nice find, i've been passively looking for something like this.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks promising. There is a real lack of good but free converter apps.
- DiggX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Virtualdub it's great but it takes a LIFETIME to learn how to use it.
- AgentMull, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Finally a download to one of these programs, and not a "Upload your file through our 56k line and we'll get back to you eventually with the converted file" kind of site.

http://happybeggar.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=68&Itemid=2 - astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2LOL... Installed, ran, and Dr. DivX just chocked on the first file I gave him (1 GB mpg).
Same file, I used MediaCoder, it loaded the file with no problems played, and converted it.
My choice: MediaCoder... I just checked the Dr. out of my system :P - wisam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2After trying SUPER, MediaCoder and Any Video Converter I'd say MediaCoder is the best of them.
SUPER handles all video/audio formats but has a buggy interface.
Any Video Convertor seems to have limited output formats to choose from. - ab2650, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just downloaded it and I'm testing it out - I've been looking for a really good and easy way to transfer my DVD collection to my iPod for trips and such. I don't mind spending a few bucks but It's gotta be simple, easy, fast and good.
My one concern so far with Any Video Converter, is the profile for iPod sets the video size to 320x240; which IIRC there are upgraded specs to the size of video; 640x480 i think? - 3leggedHorse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dr Divx 2.0 and it now converts flv as well and its free.
http://labs.divx.com/node/225 - atommclain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Try VisualHub costs a few Hamilton's, but worth the price!
- pattersonb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The screen is still 320x240 resolution but it can play 640x480 so you wouldn't notice any difference between the two if you're watching it on an iPod. 640x480 would actually be worse to put on your iPod because there is more hard drive activity meaning shorter battery life.
(this was supposed to be in reply to ab2650 but for some reason it got posted above it) - HeL1ves1nYou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I use AutoGK (Auto Gordian Knot) and I like it, rarely have a problem with it, but if I do it's a video/audio sync problem, but it's an easy fix, just re-encode
Mainly use it for converting VOB files and it does an awesome job
http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=AutoGK - tito13kfm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"anytime you convert you get loss in quality"
Ever heard of a lossless codec? HuffyUV is a great, high speed, implementation of one.
But more to my point. Why can't people learn to use the right tool for the right job? A simple AVS script and the encoding tool for the job you want to do will give you better results, and much greater control of your end product than any 1-click solution.
I realize that SUPER uses mencoder for most of its encoding, but most of the settings are not that customizable and the end result is usually poorer than if you wrote your own script for resizing and color matrix conversion. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3WTF is up with the reply system. Stupid thing!!
- ab2650, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@pattersonb
Yeah, I would probably rip my own movies at 320x240 to see them on the go, but for outputting to a TV, I'd definitely want to be at 640x480 - I've seen a movie played at 320x240 on a 36" screen and it looks like *****.
There are a few other options here that I'll give a spin. If someone has a total fav, i want to hear about it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2anytime you convert you get loss in quality, even if you convert a 10mb xvid to a 100mb vob file the quality is still worse. its always better to use the original codecs then to convert for another one.
and just because a program can convert any type of video file doesnt nessesarily mean it can do a good job, ive seen many programs just like this that horiibly rape the quality. - iamstiffler, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1http://www.m2ts-converters.com/
- javabeta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I usually use the psp converter tools for almost all the formats to mp4

Just insert the url, select the right output format, and press "convert". The video will be saved to your computer hard drive automatically.
Hope can help you. - emer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@wisam
You're probably right but the problem with media encoder is that its seems more geared towards open source zealots then typical end users. Its unfortunately not straight forward and simple to use when compared to Super/any video converter. - jane1210, on 10/30/2008, -0/+1i know this--Free online flv converter

http://www.n-k.eu/any-video-converter.exe - pyrates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Because most don't even go to the link, they just digg the story. Shows how Bush got elected twice despite being an idiot.
And this program all of its functionality is available out there for free in other programs. Just gotta spend the time and learn. Then again the reason why people buy this is because they are either lazy or stupid. Pick one. - shoehorn5, on 03/21/2009, -0/+0does this program add any watermarks? and what program can download a video off of youtube for free without leaving any watermarks?
