- orelses, on 02/12/2008, -6/+58I'd donate $5.01 for this software.
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -2/+31There's already a handbrake for windows. It's called handbrake. Welcome to the intertubes.

- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -0/+19Aye, it sure is. Shame it's not in development any more though...
- aj3289, on 02/12/2008, -6/+23***** the MPAA!!
- Dgen_X, on 02/12/2008, -0/+14And I thought using DVD Shrink was easy....apparently it can be easier!!
- codyman, on 02/12/2008, -0/+12dvdfab (free) + dvdshrink (reauthor --> main movie, english only, dump all the crappy menus / fbi warnings etc etc) ---> ftw
- MattS, on 02/12/2008, -0/+12isnt there already ripit4me that combines dvd shrink as will as the vob fixers? nice to have 2... but think i will stick with ripit4me...
- giid, on 02/13/2008, -0/+12No way, what I use is the best.
- thatbox, on 02/12/2008, -3/+13If this has automated one-click DVD ripping, do I not have to click at all anymore?
- strictnein, on 02/12/2008, -1/+11I'm stealing a DVD if I rip a copy to my media server? I learn something new everyday!
- McoreD, on 02/13/2008, -0/+9Nope. He started working with Nero, for Nero Recode. Ever noticed the similarity?
- archer75, on 02/12/2008, -0/+8DVD shrink used to be great. And it probably still would be if it was being developed. The problem is it can't crack alot of DVD's these days. So I use DVD Fab Platinum which has never let me down.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 02/12/2008, -0/+7AutoGK is better. The time tested one click DVD backup.
Works with DVD Decryptor and DVD Shrink.
The standard by which all others are measured. - ralphie81, on 02/12/2008, -0/+7Someone sounds bitter.
- sevenalive, on 02/12/2008, -1/+7What about DVDFab Platinum, thats what i use and its the best
- Nebberz, on 02/12/2008, -0/+6Been using ripit4me for my one click dvd backup needs and I've never felt like looking anywhere else.

I'd link to the author's home page...but it seems to be suspended at the moment. :( - IllBeBack, on 02/12/2008, -2/+8If you consider thumbs up numbers to be PROFIT, then I feel very sorry for you.
- Dokument, on 02/13/2008, -0/+6whats stopping you?
- antdude, on 02/13/2008, -0/+6What happened? He quit?
- Fallout911, on 02/12/2008, -0/+5http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm
This is another great program to use in conjunction with shrink. - sancho, on 02/13/2008, -0/+5What most people call "transcoding" is actually requantization. It strips information from the video stream without reencoding or recreating GOPs.
- Oea420, on 02/13/2008, -0/+4To anyone using DVD Shrink, I highly recommend a program called AnyDVD..
What it does is basically act as a software layer between your hardware drive and actual system driver... and it decrypts any dvd on the fly (So when you use dvd shrink.. nothing is encrypted, all done on the fly)
It's pretty sweet - KibibyteBrain, on 02/13/2008, -0/+4Its always good to have more practical options. It brings greater legitimacy to the standing of fair use rights if more and more programmers are willing to offer such software. This is why the AACS folks were freaking out so much when the keys were going around, or why file sharing is seen as such a plague. The more prolific a grey area act is, the more justified it becomes. For example, all banks charge interest now, but before, that was rather stupidly seen as unthinkably illegal. But slowly one by one, people started defying the precedents. Same can be said for porn and subversive literature. Also, in the court system, there is a certain understanding of laws that seem impractical to enforce or that people will not submit themselves to being naturally invalidated...
- bulldowser, on 02/13/2008, -2/+6Does anyone know of an easy way to separate the individual episodes of a dvd from a television series?
- sahaskatta, on 02/12/2008, -1/+5handbrake is great, but it won't crack the DVD encryption ... on windows. (however it is great on linux and mac os x)
- SkippyDoorknob, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4It's only a matter of time
- nickstang, on 02/13/2008, -3/+7Are you kidding me? This program is a joke.
Why do you even need to type in the name of the dvd,.. why doesn't it just use the volume name of the dvd. All it's doing is using SendKeys to send text to the application that has DVD Shrink in the title.
You could write this in a couple lines of vbscript!
Besides,.. you are essentially giving the author of this software complete access to your hard drive. Personally,.. I'd save the two mouse clicks and not install this software. - Archer007, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3...And then the nice little automated script opens a command window and types format c: too fast for you to stop.
- heathuff23, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3Why is bulldowser being dugg down for asking an innocent question? That makes no sense
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -9/+12Re-encoding is NOT the same thing as transcoding.
- xptoast, on 02/13/2008, -2/+5Fail.
Transcoding is the direct digital-to-digital conversion from one (usually lossy) codec to another. It involves decoding/decompressing the original data to a raw intermediate format (i.e. PCM for audio or YUV for video), in a way that mimics standard playback of the lossy content, and then re-encoding this into the target format.
Note the last part....re-encoding this into the target format Transcoding just has the translation part but still has the re-encode part.

- archer75, on 02/13/2008, -1/+4Except that apple TV is so limited in the video formats it would play I don't know if this would work.
- guyincognitoo, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3and VOB blanker to remove the useless stuff. The free version of Rebuilder will only do the whole movie.
- howser2007, on 02/13/2008, -1/+4Use DVD43, it's free and does the same thing as Any DVD.
http://www.dvd43.com/ - zeabu, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3@theaceoffire: You copy DVDs, but you have something against using a cracked version of a DVD-ripper?
- Lezlee798, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2n
- fatlip, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2according to the MPAA, then yes, yes you are
..but according to common sense and... well thats about it, then naw; you're fine. - MrOdwin, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2Sony killed RipIt4Me last year. It won't be updated again, but what there is is great.
- fancyj, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2You can crack DVDs with DVD shrink? I've only ever used it to re-author. I've always used DVDFAB Decrytptor (the free version of platinum) to remove css and DVDshrink to re-author to fit onto a single layer DVD.
- razordancer, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2Here's another cool AHK-based encoding automator:
http://housekat.comphost.info/ - Tekmazter, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2I use DVDFab Platinum, but I've found several DVD's already which require DVD Decrypter to get past the forced CRC's etc e.g. Wedding Crashers, Shaun of The Dead, Resident Evil Apoc. Used in conjunction with DVDFab, you definitely have pretty hot setup which while doesn't do what this article shows us, can still provide good capabilities in copying any of your existing library.
- xptoast, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2I looked all over for a decent program. This is the only cheap alternative that keeps updated and works every single time. Not bloated or anything. Super unintrussive. The best kind of software that is bought.
- andycr512, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2Oh, yeah, everyone actually makes a copy so they can watch it without the disc in. That's much more sinister. I'm offended he didn't tell the truth about that.
- adooga, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2So what's the easiest way to burn some mpegs onto a blank dvd with a menu structure? I've tried a few tools and nothing's really worked. I may well be retarded, but any advice would be appreciated.
- xptoast, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2You didn't see the standalone executable portion? I am sad for you.
