- teh_toaster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+44Among other things, TweakUI has this built into it too. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
I think just about everything done in TweakUI is possible with registry keys and other little things like that, but it makes it easier by putting them into one common place. - inmatarian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23TweakUI is awesome. I'd much appreciate it if all of these registry hackers would check the TweakUI first to see if it's there already.
- darkever, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24how bout you just change the login to Windows 2000 format, where you have to type your login? It's not even a hack, it's built in. Sorry, but this is lame.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18"Documents and Settings > Secret user"
wow, totally stealth! - piratebill, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15"The CTRL-ALT-DEL trick does not work for XP Home."
Actually, it does.
And if you want an app to do this stuff just get tweakUI from Microsoft. It can do so much more than this guys app. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12And uh, I'll go ahead and make sure you get another copy of that memo mmm'k?
- bmig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6yea. tweakui is a great app. this isnt a hack anyway - its a feature. Just because a feature isnt found in the control panel, certainly does not make it a hack!
- jpena, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6why would you go about downloading software for things you can easily do using built in options in XP? i.e. " Change the way user log on", that way a user is required to know his or her user name and password instead click the "pretty" icon.
oh well, " to each his own".
I personally like logging on the old way ( ctrl+alt+Del)
control panel> users> change the way users log on - Snowcone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Agreed. This is by far not a new feature. TweakUI rocks.
- alrahman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Just use TweakUI. No Digg
- dupswapdrop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hey don't let the apple people see this...I used this to fix their windows computers at work so they can't log on!
- gcauthon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This just gives a false sense of security. So which accounts do you hide and which do you show? Are you going to hide accounts used by the 1337 users and only show the n00b accounts? Which accounts will have the easiest passwords, I wonder? Thanks for making my job easier!
- dugem1, on 01/20/2008, -0/+1That's great find

- Icklehamsta, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Having to use safe mode pretty much ruins it for me.
- nightfox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah right... any other hotter stuff? *insert sarcasm*
- fullwaza, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3TPS REPORTS!
- dcmjzero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2doing that makes you unable to have more than one users logged on at any time. that is important to some (like me). but this "hack" doesn't solve the problem either, so...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Cwluc, ermmm so yeah I'm gonna need to have you come in tomorrow...
lemme just grab that stapler from you.. - austindkelly, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2i was about to say, how does this hide your documents, folders, NTUSER.dat ??
- jjgitties, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this registry tweak has been around for years. have you been living in a pakistani cave with osama or something?
- Zanevalon, on 10/12/2007, -10/+10I guess not everyone has been on digg since it's conception...
- mdman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1known feature...
Not a hack.. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8When I read the description the first thing I thought was "Welcome Screen? WTF is that?"
- No1nose, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Are we using cover sheets?
- igyigyigy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2The only obvious downside to this is that if fast user switching is enabled, and you get sent to the 'welcome' screen, you can't use the ctrl-alt-delete combo to log back in.
So if you use a special account, dont let it go to screensaver :)
(basically, the special account wont appear in the list of users to choose from, but when you're already logged in and at the 'switch user' screen you also cant use control-alt-delete to get back in) - digitalrift, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0hidden attribute? chances are your family members might have enough knowledge of computers to file browse a little bit, but they won't ***** with the almight show hidden/system files/folders. of course, not that I'd bother spying on my family like that.. that's what the running programs at startup without listing the program in the startup folder would be for, so I can run a keylogger.
- zbilly, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2since everyone is so excited by vista right?
- Doomhammer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Not really all that secret when you can see them in the Control Panel still (yeah, you can see the Administrator account in there - go look)...
- dAbReAkA, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2lol.. t3h hax0rs..
as chris9902 said everything can be seen.. only a lame wouldn't uncover your secret account.. - VenTatsu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0In XP you can create local users or from the sytem control panel roaming users. Roaming users can have their home directories moved to different locations.
Not fully hidden but harder to find atleast. - falloutsyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3It's a reg hack, I've been doing this for years. It' works charms for snooping family members/friends!
- piratebill, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Why did I get dugg down? I am not complaining, just a bit curious.
- ecbo0m, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0another method is that you can go into the registry, change the value of the user, and it will hide the user from appearing int he welcome screen. no programs necessary.

Either way, thanks for re-enlightning me with this.
