- svenjick, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22Would be nice if it could identify the CMS running on some websites...
- covertbadger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Because it took so long to respond ;-)
- Complexium, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Huh.. microsoft.com runs on IIS 7.0 - who would have known?
- Jleagle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Nothing that cant be done manually, but this site does a fantastic job of speeing things up.
- REBELinBLUE, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12That isn't what is says, it says that it thinks your site is either PHP or ASP.NET and that 30% of the sites it has seen as PHP and 40% are ASP.NET
- mylkhead, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10This little utility lets me see what stats or analytics software some of the best companies are using. Just about everyone uses Google Analytics, but some more lesser known but good ones are Clicky, Reinvigorate, and CrazyEgg.
- computerdan000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8This would make a cool Firefox Extension.
- asaturn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7myspace.com: built with twigs and bubble gum.
- brian6String, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6i tried this tool against a site which created and host that is running Apache, MySQL, PHP and a framework called phpWebSite. The tool came up and told me the site is running IIS 6.0 and ASP.net. So, I don't know what this is supposedly doing, but it looks like crap-ware to me.
- JohnnyXmas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Fonzie was a cool tool.
- 35263526, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4As if I'd need a tool to tell me that.
- web0073, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I think this is fantastic, a great tool for competitive analysis. I love the 'Other popular sites using this' feature. It's also nice to see so many people using web analytics.
- Mantees, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It correctly idendified Joomla on http://www.ogrank.com/
- riven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It correctly identified Drupal on one of my sites, but I'm not using any sort of SEF URL optimization.
- manitoba98xp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah. Apparently Server 2008 (or at least parts of it) are stable enough for _them_ to use, but not everyone else...
- jinglee, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5wow..this is so cool..
- xendus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Tool is not accurate. 37signals's Ruby on Rails sites basecamp tadalist etc are showing PHP as framework.
- UnstableMind, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I AM actually surprised to see them using IIS, I know they're not clustering their servers. If they were, that would require Enterprise Ed. If I'm not mistaking, that requires CAL's for users to connect to a hosted site (read: alot of ***** money). I know the web edition doesn't cluster and is very stripped down. Maybe they load balance the front-ends, ah who knows. Correct me if I'm wrong.
- p0tent1al, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2nice slam
- p0tent1al, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2thanks, saved me from having to go check myself.
- TheSolomon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Well, I pointed it directly to one of my web applications, and it wrongly identified it as PHP. There isn't a drop of PHP in my application, it's HTML, Javascript, and CSS powered by a Ruby back-end. There's nothing in the output from the script that gives a clue about what it might be written in, so I'm a bit confused why it took a stab in the dark and got it totally wrong. Hmmm.
- uberfu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I profiled a site that a buddy of mine did - that was loaded full of tech-goodness_
It's built on PHP - JavaScript - HTML - CSS - and some Flash_
The one that it did not mention was JavaScript_
It did manage to list out Apache as the server tech and that the Server was Running Linux and not some form of Win_ And it got specific citing Red Hat and not Yellow Dog or SuSe or Debain or any of the other 50 flavors of Linux out there_
That and it didn't confuse it with Unix_
At least the checks I've run seem to check out [with a small margin of error - like leaving out the JavaScript] - But I guess that isn't so small after all - since without the JavaScript - a user would ahve a hard time doing much of anything_ - cramd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think it would be nice if it were to also say what DB was being used
- Phocion55, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2http://builtwith.com/default.aspx?www.plone.org
Plone.org identified as running Plone. - p0tent1al, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Near impossible. You just have to figure that most use MySQL Databases, then the rest use SQl/Oracle, and then the list goes on.
- Phocion55, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That's just a particular Javascript library.
- p0tent1al, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1How do you think you get to that output??????
- Bamborzled, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1http://builtwith.com/default.aspx?drupal.org
At the time of writing, it doesn't even identify drupal.org as running Drupal. - TygerrTygerr, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Hm. Failed to identify what language I was using (100% PHP). I guess it's a nice little tool but I can't imagine what I'd use it for. I'm not going to base what technologies I use on other site's usage, I'll look up what they are and what they do and why/how to use them. But it could be a starting point to do that I guess.
- UnstableMind, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I agree, this is ***** amazing, I just found alot of ***** on my sites that I wouldn't want other people to know I'm running...
- j3one, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Cool idea, but it thinks django and ruby on rails is php...
- akira117, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Says they used:
Prototype
JQuery
PHP
XHTML Transitional
Cascading Style Sheets
Javascript
Those are the good parts anyways - p0tent1al, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It forgot that script.aculous or whatever it's called....
- tikistyle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Omniture SiteCatalyst is the best one, but expensive. It's a big boy toy.
- burke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, it should hack in and figure out how your web server is parsing the site source. That would be cool.
- UnstableMind, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1There is a link to compete.com on this site. Check out digg.com for the last 6 months. A HUGE increase in visits.
- manitoba98xp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm not sure how it's doing the analysis, but it could be relying on the HTTP Server and X-Powered-By headers, both of which are often falsified by server admins hoping to throw off a few script kiddies.
- richardiscool, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Myspace was built with Coldfusion, and is being moved across to ASP.net. I'm not sure what database they use - presumably it's MSSQL.
- findhostcoupons, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1I am not a skilled web developed, nevertheless, I think this tool is worth to be used!
- burke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Ok. No, it's not.
Secondly, 37signals' sites use some amount of PHP for the frontmatter. - garazy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2apple.com runs on apache mongrel which is the version of apache for powerpc processors
- drgmdp, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2you wouldn't need a ***** app to tell you then
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I thought they were going to use Microsoft for advertising?
- rootfiend, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Looks like he used the wrong technology(IIS w/ asp.net) for his site.
- Kreihst, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Interesting.....
When I test my own site, I get:
... 128.43% of all profiled sites use Cascading Style Sheets.
(One Hundred Twenty Eight point Four Three Percent!!) - TygerrTygerr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1That should be easily done if the CMS uses a meta generator tag.
- webRat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Several sites running CF. Came up as "ASP.NET" - I assume because we're running IIS in house. Buried as lame.
- yoshitx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I just ran it on a site that uses some really esoteric stuff. It said it was PHP. Flat ass wrong!
- brwnx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2how can it tell that www.hill107.com is running rails??? it is...but how does it know???
- glialisback, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Claims 4 of my PHP sites that are on Apache as ASP.NET on IIS. LAME!
