- skwashd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3For those of you thinking this is a scam, I have spoken to SEO Company about how the donations will be handled and this is how they will handle it.
“SEO Company will not be accepting any donations directly but will be generating a PayPal Mass Pay file for the company's wanting to make donations. With the Mass Pay file the PayPal "Make a Mass Payment" option can be used to import the the list and make a batch payment.
The PayPal Mass Pay file will include for each project the developers or projects PayPal email, the donation amount, and an acknowledgment with a link to the Website of the company making the donation.”
I am happy to post a small link on my project's website in return for payment. I think this could be useful for many projects. Many FOSS projects have decent page ranks which the companies making a donation can take advantage of. Seems like a good deal to me. - Rickard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I can confirm this. I help them form their acknowledgement description, put together the PayPal Mass Pay file for them, and they import the file and do a batch payment and more projects get funding.

I think there are lot more projects created maintained by people not on college that need a couple of bucks as incentive for their hard (100% free from compensation) work!

Just to make it clear. We are not asking for a link on the projects website in return for a payment. We are making a donation to open source projects.
It will be up to the developer of the project as to where they give a link or not. We do require an acknowledgement on the site but not a link. If no link is offered we will still make the donation. While we do ask for a link in the acknowledgement we are not requiring one.
Also the amount of Pagerank or the quality of inbound links a site has is not being taking into consideration when selecting the projects we are making donations to. - eugenio2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I confirm! My project DaDaBIK (www.dadabik.org) received a 50$ donation too.
