- snowboarder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Its a poor title. The title states a fact and it is only speculation.
- korteenea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+51.) Ben Goodger makes Firefox.
2.) Ben Goodger is hired by Google.
3.) Google tells Ben Goodger he can use 30% of his paid time to persue whatever he wants.
4.) Ben Goodger uses that time to work on Firefox.
5.) Diggers notice this and automatically assume that Google is doing something big with Firefox. - Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@dvranizan: I do hope you're being sarcastic. That site is a terrible design. It's a single column taking up less than 30% of my visible screen space. Godawful design.
Fixed width sites are the tool of the devil. No digg just for that. - ketsugi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Mike Beltzner explains why Google is doing usability tests on Firefox :p
http://www.beltzner.ca/mike/archives/2005/11/04/using_tabs.html - spin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3OK, FINE. Since you went ahead and linked to your blog just to see the traffic, lets talk about your blog. Has ANYONE ever seen a design that is skinner than this? Is your only demographic PDA/Cell users? You its called flexible design. You should check it out! I run 1920x1200 and your site is unusable!
- Truegod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What Cosmotic said! Stopping linking to blogs, just link to the article. That said, good Digg.
- cosmotic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Link to the article, not your blog.
Also, the Google policy for your own thing is TWENTY percent, not thirty. - ketsugi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2korteenea: That's not quite what happened here. Goodger actually managed to get Google's usability test groups to do research on Firefox's tab functionality. That's not the same as him working on Google during his 30% personal time. He's actually using Google's resources and manpower to help improve Firefox, hence the conspiracy theories. However, check out Mike Beltzner's response which I posted earlier.
- knightwalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1here's a crazy idea...
firefox is opensource right? and google clearly wants to encourage both opensource and opposition to microsoft (something Firefox definitely represents).
My point is, what is preventing google from coming out with a 'packaged' version of firefox, with certian features that can only be accessed by extensions right now, be incorporated into the original browser from the get go. in such a case, they would merely have to optomize the browser to their specification, making tabs for example work in the way described in the linked article...
just a thought - vperez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hate sites that waste so much space for no reason. Not to mention there's a pointless horizontal scrollbar just to view the rest of the background.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ironic that the original article from Ben Goodger is talking about usability, and the page's use of tags makes it unable to print.
- mediaphile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1certain firefox extensions already address these issues. that's the beauty of firefox: you can customize the hell out of it to suit your individual browsing style.
- ArthurSucks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe Google wants people to use FireFox more because with less IE there's less problems on the internet that are caused by IE. This could just be an attempt to kind of make the internet better for everyone, and in turn, better for Google. I don't know, just makes sense to me.
- rmccabe916, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Haha! Look at what Ben Goodger said after others told him Opera already implemented the three main ideas tested:

dflock - LOL. I just tested Opera 8.02 and you're right. And we thought we were so clever for coming up with this heuristic. -_-;
The new tab features aren't so innovative after all. ;) - mohrt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The "Tab X" extention for Firefox puts a close button on each tab. Indispensable.
http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/clav/#tabx - blogkitten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@cosmotic: "Link to the article, not your blog."
Thank you for that! Screams of "look at my blog!!!" instead of real content. - coolguy69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what a design ...no digg
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is no google mozilla merger coming....google is just creating their own version of customized firefox.
- joeyjojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"The "Tab X" extention for Firefox puts a close button on each tab. Indispensable."
Or just middle-click the tab to close it. - TheProfessional, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Those are great usability enhancements. I use them here on the work computers with a tab extension after realizing that people were having problems using tabs.
Also, why so much speculation on a Google browser? Google has stated before that it is not working on a browser. Why wouldn't Google just be interested in usability and accessability in GUIs? Google IS in the market for creating GUIs in the web applications. - Erroneus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1lacta: yep which makes opera a great browser, but it still hasn't extensions as firefox does., which a alot of people likes, because it gives alot of possibilities for tweaking.... now get on with it, case closed, eod.
- J3bu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1interesting i wonder what's happening with google and firefox, merger?
- rcomegys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I agree, the design is beautiful. It gets my digg.
- blogkitten, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Also, the blog linked to in this story is a wonderful example of bad site design. Too much rampant "bevel" and "drop shadow" makes my eyes burn.
And when the Google ads take up more real estate on your blog than actual content, then perhaps you shouldn't have a blog.
No Digg. - simX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2*sigh* No digg. Link to the actual blog post by Ben Goodger, NOT some other guy's blog posting about Goodger's blog. *sigh*
- surfing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1^ditto, and the typo 'devleoper'... Spell check please
- dvranizan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3You should digg just for the design of the linked site. Beautiful!
- latca, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Most of the listed features are already in Opera.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1***** GOOGLE
- Complexium, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Yes, Fx is so behind Opera!
Kevin Rose is so retarded, when he says that Fx is better than Opera. :@

What is Digg?
