- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+36"The number of users, or Diggers, has been doubling monthly as of late and now numbers more than 300,000 (with 8 million visitors). Can Digg maintain or expand that kind of growth, or will it slump as quickly as its star rose when another tool attracts more attention?"
Is it just me, or is this worded poorly where it appears they're calling Kevin a tool? :) - stephen2417, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33"Digg's sparse interface makes it easy to read without annoying ads or graphics, but in some cases, we'd like image thumbnails to flesh out more details."
They must be using adblock. - searchengine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Here are some other takes on digg version 3

Didn't digg into the site too far did they...
You can set it to not open a new window in the settings. - toppur, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17What?!
- BerenTW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13"the big battle in social bookmarking sites at the moment is between digg and netscape"
what the hell? there is no battle. game set and match to digg before they even posted their ripped version. Its humor, not battle. - benjamincanfly, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Mod this up, for some reason it's hilarious...
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14For a moment there I thought it read: "CNET takes on Digg V3". I thought to myself, "Oh no, not another copy cat, like that reject that owns Netscape!"
- stomicron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8When you're not logged in and click a function (like reply) that takes you to a login page, and then log in, you're redirected back to the last article you opened which is not necessarily the one you clicked from.
So if this guy was using multiple tabs that's probably what happened. That and he didn't notice he was brought back to a different article. - MisterCookie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"And we're not thrilled that a new browser window opens anytime you want to read the source of a Digg-highlighted story."
I hope these people are aware that it is possible to force links to open in tabs... - anorris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Haha, you're right.. it looks a lot like they are calling Kevin a tool, but I highly doubt that was the intent.
- theunderground5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6It doesn't sound too bad at all they actually sound kinda nice
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The President's approval rating do not help very much either.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes. And I can't edit most of my comments. Seems to be happening less since a few hours ago.
- itsme7g, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"When will web designers learn that people are perfectly capable of deciding for themselves when they want new windows opened? It's a real annoyance to have to close a window that you wanted *replaced* by the linked article."
They won't. You might just have to get over this it. It could eat you up until you feel hollow inside. - xXShadowstormXx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Why would you call someone a tool?
Is that a comeback? lol. - Odweaver, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I thought that was odd too, because the first time I opened a browser window with Digg v3 the first thing I noticed were the big yellow banner ads marring up the page.
- suprfli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i HATE the digg topics bar on the left. it takes up an entire 200 pixels in screen space. i like to keep my browser around 830x1026. i used to be able to read the front page of digg easily in that resolution but now i need to scroll left and right. there must be a better place to put the digg topics bar or if i chose it in my settings i'd rather it not be there all together. anyone agree on this? i love the site but i hate the new layout.
- sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3what's with the digg sidebar on the left? Looked better on the right.
- npacheco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think thumbnails would be a horrible idea. For some reason I always find CNet's 'Reviews' too snarky and lacking of detail. Anyone get the same feeling?
- anorris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2On the homepage, click upcoming stories. On the resulting page, you want the link just under the "All Stories" header that reads "Switch to Cloud View"
- idesign562, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4".... digg is still the king"
- benjamincanfly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A fair summary, but it doesn't say anything we didn't already know.
- jdwest, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3OK. I've missed it, sorry. Where is Cloud?
- BlogJones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Banner ads are OK. I can understand the need to defray the massive bandwidth costs for a site like this one.
Pop-up ads are never OK. Ever. - one2gamble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2there are two issues with v3, excessive ads and the left align nav menu
- V1ncent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2We digg digg, it's that simple. The extra g is for geekiness.
- V1ncent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is anyone else having the problem that when you submit a comment it immediately says you posted it 6 minutes ago? Or 3?
- Trogdor420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does anyone know when Digg Incoming is going to be available on the site?
- kajoob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg search results page sloooooow in Safari. Please fix!
- flwright145, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I myself am glad there is no flashy adds and thumbnails. This way I can get away with looking at the site at work. Internet usage at my office is not entirely restricted, just no personal stuff. Anyone passing by while I look at Digg will probably think I am looking at a user forum or legitamate work-related site and I will be given the benefit of a doubt. I was worried when I heard v3 was coming out - that they would make it more flashy. Thankyou Kevin for keeping the same basic look.
- carolinaws, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Funny that you see all of these stories about Digg on other tech sites. But search Slashdot and it's like searching Tianamen Square on Google China. No news, blogs, comments, etc.
- suprfli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i was wondering the same thing. i think digg is having some hiccups. why are there so many articles on the front page w/so few diggs? also, like you said, they need a "this is old" drop down option. i always mark them as lame but i see something really old but i'm looking at the front page now and regularly seeing articles not just fro days ago but weeks, months and years ago.
sometimes less users is better. digg might have jumped the shark. - FunkyGuy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3hahhhhhha yeah definitly makes it sound like they are calling krose a tool.
- DarthPilatus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm sorry, that read very much like a press release rather than an article/review...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3That's only available if you subscribe to TotalDigg... which is apparently how CNet has access to that feature.
- BostonVaulter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oh crap, no wonder that comment didn't end up in the right story. Sorry folks, that was supposed to go into a different story.
Although it could have made a good sarcastic comment as benjamincanfly alluded to. Perhaps something like "I wasn't able to read the article because i just HAD to join the site right away"
In the future I need to make sure I post in the right story, or maybe just don't have 15 digg tabs open in one window. - fyngyrz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1...and the lame 1-level comment system, for three.
- cesclaveria, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I guess is not intented to us, is for new users.
- nerdgoturd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i agree. personally, i liked the old digg better. it's seem to me that now there are many more members and the stories that make it to the homepage are less technology related. people used to care if a story was a few years old, but now there are games that were made ten years ago and they're on the homepage and nobody complained about them. Also, stories are making it to the homepage with 20 diggs with no comments and the story got posted a day ago. what's wrong with this?! the story about digg not just for geeks is becoming true faster than we all thought
- capn_caveman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From the article: "Built to show what other users are up to, yet another feature, Digg Incoming, displays popular stories within a bar chart, then shows where a Swarm of user popularity is clustered."
This "digg incoming" feature does not appear to be available yet. Or perhaps I'm missing something. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Never mind. He explained what happened.
- michaelyurechko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wha?!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Who is CNET to be critiquing Digg in the first place? In my book, a site that has How-to's on how to do some of the most basic things--things that even several senior citizens are capable of doing-- and features video reviews that often contain flagrant slip-ups in some of the most basic terminology (like calling USB ports "USB drives") is in no position to be acting like a technology authority.
- SPARTACVS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Netscape is terrible. Their top stories get under 100 "votes". Ours get 3000 diggs.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2
I like the new "SITE"...I hate the new topics.
WAY WAY WAY too much political crap and its all far left leaning junk because of the sheer number of children on the site.
This site is much better as a place for "techiz" like /. There is no need for DIGG to try and turn into NewsVine...its way outclassed by Newsvine in the content and quality of people that frequent it. - dark1152, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5Wow, it's amazing how CNET is so incredibly desperate for traffic that they would review Digg! Stick to hardware reviews CNET it helps keep you from looking like idiots ... for about 5 minutes.
- sldSquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Am I seriously missing something? There's a couple of banner ads, none of which are flashy or annoying.
You guys seriously have no tolerance for ads at all. Most sites are much worse when it comes to ads. - gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1and always will be.
- protez, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4What's a matter with you!?

What is Digg?
