- cx0der, on 04/14/2009, -12/+108At the end it turned out to be a Firefox fanboy telling a story of how he tried other browers
- Yankees368, on 04/14/2009, -7/+94Why no love for Opera?
- troopa, on 04/14/2009, -5/+52I agree that Firefox is the overall best but I still love Chrome's speed and minimal memory usage.
- donnytomas, on 04/14/2009, -13/+53Chrome is a major browser?
- feliks2, on 04/14/2009, -0/+35Undying love for Opera.
- ChristoFox, on 04/14/2009, -0/+32 Here you go: <3 Opera
- krystalo, on 04/14/2009, -7/+37This is news? ***** computerworld.
- theaceoffire, on 04/14/2009, -0/+21Did you just teabag Opera?
- GRAVEWiSH, on 04/14/2009, -18/+37safari?
- Mawds, on 04/14/2009, -5/+23Adblock Plus wins it for Firefox.
- theaceoffire, on 04/14/2009, -2/+19And Chrome plates you, preserving your body in shiny stuff.
- drgmdp, on 04/14/2009, -6/+22lol, safari
- Julian88888888, on 04/14/2009, -8/+24yeah I'm using the new safari beta now, I switched from firefox and I do like it better.
- inactive, on 04/14/2009, -6/+21apple software on PC = slow pc so you want a mac.
- schestowitz, on 04/14/2009, -16/+31Firefox wins because of DEVELO~1 DEVELO~1 DEVELO~1 (extensions).
- falafelkiosken, on 04/14/2009, -2/+15so if I chose Firefox I die in a fire, and IE makes me die in a nasty infection caused by multiple viruses?
- sjvn, on 04/14/2009, -0/+12At the end, I like Firefox because it works on all platforms and it has a whole ecosystem of other programs that work with it. Give me Chrome on all platforms and some add-ons to go with it, and I'll be an instant Chrome fan.
Steven - dsmx, on 04/14/2009, -1/+12A lot of people don't know about it, which is strange really because it has a similar amount of users to safari.
- wbkang, on 04/14/2009, -0/+11I don't agree that chrome's memory usage is small. Usually speed and memory usage is a trade-off. But yea, chrome is fast and pleasing to use.
- Raz0rEdge, on 04/14/2009, -0/+10Agree, and when Chrome gets extension support, I'm switching over 100%..
- xxpor, on 04/14/2009, -0/+10what about lynx???
- serif69, on 04/14/2009, -0/+10Did I somehow miss a Nintendo game franchise?
- scarwars, on 04/14/2009, -5/+14Computerworld is a gathering of senior citizens who have no idea what's new and what's good.
Case in point; no Opera. - theaceoffire, on 04/14/2009, -0/+9*and when it supports my OS
- darkamster07, on 04/14/2009, -0/+9wat. Opera has tons of features, more built-in ones than the competiton anyways. thats what i love about it- you don't have to have a bunch of add on mini-apps to do advanced browsing and downloading. it's fast too. plus the design of the browser itself is fully customizable and skinable. as far as i can tell it also runs on the most number of platforms.
Opera is the old man who man not be noticed anymore, but who has many years of tricks up the sleeve. people should give Opera a fair chance. - WoahPuppets, on 04/14/2009, -2/+10agreed. firefox is actually a lot slower for me than the safari beta...i hope it remains as fast when it gets out of beta.
- TheFinaleofSeem, on 04/14/2009, -3/+11Not just that, but it has more market share than Chrome.
- Claverhouse, on 04/14/2009, -0/+8I never quite get browser wars: it's basically very very good that there is a good choice around --- even if microsoft would prefer not. Some people do prefer IE, and that's OK; just as they might insist bicycles are a better form of mass transport than cars. Just because those who appreciate style and awesome ability instinctively choose Firefox is no reason for looking down at those less fortunate: one may pity them, but there is scarcely any reason to despise them. As the old saying goes: 'God must love retards; otherwise He wouldn't have created so many of them.'.
Or maybe it was beetles. - javaroast, on 04/14/2009, -1/+9Laughed my ass off. Nice LFN mapping.
- mdoom, on 04/14/2009, -4/+11have you used it recently? No reason it shouldn't be. Its an amazing browser. I do the weekly update always and its constantly improving.
- jmubane, on 04/14/2009, -1/+8I hate to play the devil's advocate but he didn't even mention the compatibility mode feature they built-in to IE 8 when talking about those IE only pages that were busted. Then again its Computerworld.
- inactive, on 04/14/2009, -0/+7and adblock
- runeasgar, on 04/14/2009, -4/+11They will never have said market share.
- FKnight, on 04/14/2009, -0/+6Author: Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols. Super. I don't even need to read the article to know what's written in it.
- 4321234, on 04/14/2009, -0/+6Really, it was just him saying, "Hey, I would like to use chrome, but not if I have to use windows. Windows sucks bad."
- masonga95, on 04/14/2009, -0/+6@birch25
You obviously haven't seen the Safari 4 beta. - UselessTrivia, on 04/14/2009, -4/+10Safari doesn't count because it's like a god damned trojan horse app. They sneak it onto your system with iTunes (for windows). That and Bonjour...wtf is Bonjour anyway? all I know about it is that I always have to uncheck that box when apple update runs on my PC or it gets installed.
- HorseloverFat8, on 04/14/2009, -1/+7Safari is great on Mac, it's really a lot faster than Firefox. As for Windows, it's gradually improving (4 beta is a massive improvement over 3.)
- kierucom, on 04/14/2009, -2/+8Opera needs to have some better advertisement. As of March '09 it only comprises (roughly) 2.3% of the market. Safari beats it out at 3.1%.
Personally; I don't care for either. - addikt, on 04/14/2009, -4/+10what about opera ?
opera is definetly the best, the only feature that opera can not do that firefox can, is socks proxy support. So no ssh tunell support for opera. but other than that, it beats all the browsers in every way. - booyahbitch, on 04/14/2009, -2/+7Funny...first thing I did when I got my Macbook was to install Firefox. Mostly out of habit I guess, but I really don't much care for either Chrome or Safari.
- Wayfarer12, on 04/14/2009, -11/+16It's only fair to include Safari, the major browser on the mac platform. It's gaining ground.
- surferjoemaui, on 04/14/2009, -0/+5Bonjour is actually pretty cool if you ever feel like checking it out.
"About Bonjour for Windows
Bonjour, also known as zero-configuration networking, enables automatic discovery of computers, devices, and services on IP networks. Bonjour uses industry standard IP protocols to allow devices to automatically discover each other without the need to enter IP addresses or configure DNS servers."

- YoWhatDaFuxUp, on 04/14/2009, -0/+5knowing is half the battle
- rootbeerinacan, on 04/14/2009, -5/+10Well the where the ***** is safari??
- HorseloverFat8, on 04/14/2009, -1/+6While I largely agree with you, I can't bring myself to digg a comment that includes the word "fux".
- unixfg, on 05/23/2009, -0/+5Too bad IE doesn't have built-in spell check.
- stevo9er, on 04/14/2009, -1/+6They all work decently. Obviously people are going to pick different ones that better suit their criteria. So unless for some reason one browser manages to trump the competition in all criteria for all people, there will never be a clear winner.
With competition we are all winning a bit more though. -
