- Hobbes24, on 04/09/2009, -1/+30i cringe every time i read that brand name.
damn you 4chan... - motang, on 04/08/2009, -0/+11Still no update for Ubuntu/Linux version. :(
- Garofoli, on 04/09/2009, -1/+12For a second I thought it was Boxxy. I'm glad the world is still intact.
- AzzX, on 04/09/2009, -0/+6I have both Boxee and XBMC on my HTPC.
Since Boxee is a port of XBMC I would rather stick with the software that has the newer dev cycle plus XBMC works nicer in my Home Theatre environment.
The Social Networking Features of Boxee are awesome though. - paulsmith288, on 04/08/2009, -0/+4hopefully it will come shortly.
And hopefully there will be a version for jaunty - with lots of fixes to pulse audio :) - Adrian540, on 04/09/2009, -4/+8ALL HAIL THE QUEEN OF /b/

- davidschuster, on 04/09/2009, -0/+4Has anyone used both this, and Plex? I am just hearing about Boxee and interested in hearing how they compare.
- cIprO, on 04/08/2009, -0/+3I actually thought of just buying an apple tv but like you said "to get it right" you at least need something along the lines of a mac mini at least if you want to run boxee on Mac OS X.
- cheez124, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3boxee is really cool, but im a little tired of this constant hulu battle, and the windows version needs to come out of private alpha, its ready and i need to give the 5 year old dell hooked up to my tv something to do, except be a file mule.
- TVarmy, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3The Windows version is coming out soon, and there's already a Linux version. The developer's blog has also had polls to see if there is interest in a console version (either via app stores or homebrew). Since much of what a video player does can be offloaded to the grapics card, you might be able to take an older (Early P4, perhaps) PC and add in a $40-100 video card and $20 remote and hook them up to your TV.
Still, Boxee seems to be developed with the Mac Mini and the Apple TV in mind, and it does work really well with Apple's admittedly simple remote. - DevilsLeftHand, on 04/09/2009, -1/+4Same here. The internet can be downright insidious sometimes.

- Garofoli, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Completed!
- RomeyRome, on 04/09/2009, -0/+3Only thing Plex is missing at the moment is Netflix streaming. But Plex has its own app store and is open source as well, so it's only a matter of time. I use Plex as mym center on my hackintosh.
- cIprO, on 04/08/2009, -0/+2This reason alone is why I haven't gone out and built a HTPC with linux + boxee. I know I could use any of the other similar distros/applications that offer most of the same functionality but i prefer boxee's UI.
- cybox, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2http://elan.plexapp.com/2009/04/08/netflix-has-nev ...
Hurrah! - Nauree, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2You bes trollin!
- DCstewieG, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2Unless you care about the social aspect of Boxee, I'd recommend Plex all the way.
- indiepenguins, on 04/09/2009, -0/+2If only I could install Boxee on my PS3.
- downneck, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1TEH NEW QUEEN OF DIGG...er....wat
- DCstewieG, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Try Plex. It supports Hulu now. www.plexapp.com
- briangig, on 04/09/2009, -2/+3I just installed boxee on my mythtv htpc the other day, took me less than an hour to disable mythtv for good. I wasnt using a tuner card anyway..sad how this 'alpha' blows mythtv away,,,at least in terms of video management and online content.
- downneck, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1cracky, you ***** philistine
- Peko, on 04/09/2009, -1/+2Somebody set up us the bomb!
- evanfrey, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Anyone else find boxee slow? I have a dual core 2g with 8g ram and its still slow. I really want it to work, but so far mythtv and elisa are the snappiest contenders. Additionally, it takes FOREVER to iterate my video files (1.5tb) whereas myth takes seconds. I was using the most current boxee out for Ubuntu 8.10, any comments or suggestions?
- Gagege, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1Looks like Boxee is where it's at! I'm borrowing an Apple TV soon to see if it's no more XBMC for me. :)
- Andy.D, on 04/08/2009, -2/+3Boxee looks great, but I don't want to spend $400-$600 on the hardware to get it right. And the MacMini still doesn't have HDMI.
- chokeaduck, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1I have a Mar 09 Mac Mini with Boxee installed on it, and I love it. I just wish the whole Hulu thing would be settled.
- AzzX, on 04/09/2009, -0/+1I found the Linux version slow also though the Alpha on Windows is noticeably more responsive.
- chucklesjh, on 04/09/2009, -2/+2Does anyone think that Boxee is just copying everything that Plex does? I mean c'mon, Plex added an app store like last week.
- spacemoose, on 04/09/2009, -0/+0What's wrong with a DVI to HDMI cable? I suppose your TV needs an HMDI input with audio inputs, but I've certainly seen tons that do. Hopefully the DisplayPort has the potential for audio so down the road that option will be possible. Kinda a pain though I guess. DisplayPort and HDMI with an included DVI adapter would have been the best option.
- spacemoose, on 04/09/2009, -0/+0huh? a new mini costs $550 with a student discount and a used one that can still play HD can be had for $300.
- nmanguy, on 04/09/2009, -5/+5You would think they would make it work my damn Ubuntu home theater box. It's not like IT ONLY COSTS $300 FOR A FREAKING MEDIA PC, whereas any Apple computer costs over a grand. I mean dammit, you'll never get as wide of an audience if the Linux/Windows versions are steaming crap piles.
- tbag05, on 04/08/2009, -2/+2yeah it is odd that they are supporting macs to heavily. Guess it has to do with how awesome it owuld b to put it on a mac mini/Apple TV
- gooroov, on 04/10/2009, -0/+0i run Boxee on my ATV and it comes with XBMC--and Boxee is way better. In fact, Boxee runs Hulu better over 802.11g than my iMac does over a wire--and it's full screen! It is a little slow sometimes, and i never leave it running because it invariably crashes--but it's ALPHA! how much can you ask?
On the negative side, you can't run the Netflix app, but then...it IS an Apple TV, with access to its own vast content library if you really want it. I really dont' want to pay a monthly sub for content from Netflix. - phobik, on 04/09/2009, -0/+0I run the latest Boxee on Apple TV, I've tried lots of different streaming media solutions such as Dlink upnp. I will never go back, it works absolutely amazing!
Also picked up the ATV on craigslist for $180, not to hard to find... Apple sells refurbs for $199 online.
Anyways my point is, get the Apple TV if you wanna *really* use Boxee, 802.11n, tiny tiny tiny form factor, low power, hdmi, optical audio, hw remote, iphone remote, should i go on? - Akairenn, on 04/09/2009, -2/+1WHO OWNS THE SKY?!

- GoKings, on 04/09/2009, -5/+3I honestly thought they were talking about a different Boxee... I almost committed suicide thinking that she would have her own app... Jesus...
