- jacenat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23nice applet
- PierceUK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22http://aphid.org/btsim/ direct link to app

It does show the other leechers giving up some file bits. Just wait for it. - leszek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13would be better if we could set the download/upload speed of peers and we could delete peers with mouse
- shreveyboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Ok, everyone else wins. I admit defeat.
- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Very neat but does not show tracker..I suppose they left it off to keep it simple?
- Lazyboy0172, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7many people are overlooking this, its just shown for simplicity. with this little applet i could easily show my friends how bittorrent works with a spectrum. just add 2 seeds and 2 leeches and you'll easily see that they give different parts to different people, then those different people can seed the parts they got to eachother while getting different parts again from the 2 seeders, and then add a 3rd leech and see how it goes. all done visually, very nice indeed.
- shreveyboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8but thats not the way it really works. I've been leeching at 0.1% and still seeding.
- TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6hell anyone who has a mac and has used Bits on Wheels has seen this visual reprsentation of seeding and leeching via the torrent client itself. Its a shame that Bits on Wheels isnt updated anymore and that it isnt open source.
- nthitz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11@This isn't blog spam... If the submitter would've linked directly to the applet people would complain about the fact that you shouldn't link directly to java applets. Also the page with the applet has no context of what the applet actually does... So don't be a fool.
- Prometheus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Actually you only need someone with the bit your missing not necessarily a full seeder.
- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think this does have some bugs because I've seen incomplete leechers just sitting there with all other seeders not sending any data.
- zeptobyte, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7It's actually more accurate than you realize. It's simulating the fact that those three seeders had their connections turned off by their ISPs after multiple complaints from the MPAA. It just doesn't tell you that explicitly.
Besides, it's for educational purposes, not for conducting research with. -_- It doesn't have to be perfectly accurate. - gh02t, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5aww, look at all the little specks of pr0n fly around
:D - Barryke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Should be neat to implement this in µTorrent!
- izomiac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It can't be terribly accurate, though I guess it is a decent visual example if you have no idea how BitTorrent works. I just tried three leechers and a seeder (seeder added last). Only two recieved any traffic, and now there are three seeders, one empty leecher, and no data transfer. (Which, as most people probably know, shouldn't happen.) I suspect that the applet's creator assumed BitTorrent was strictly tit for tat, which it isn't (strictly tit for tat causes slower speeds for everyone and can create situations where certain peers are given lower priority despite having above average upload speed).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm going to have to keep this applet in mind next time I introduct BitTorrent to a new user.
- ilLH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Same thing with Azureus I believe.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Don't you people see the ":P" sticking tongue out face? Geez.. some people's kids.. :P!
- xxrazor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7look, if you have one leecher at 99.7% or whatever it was, and no full seeds, and a whole bunch of other leechers, then they would all be at 99.7%, until a full seed gets back on.
-----use your common sense--------- - championchap, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6anyone fancy making this in flash instead? Flash player 7 compatible for all the linux lovers.
java applets make me cry - Barryke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@ ImperatorTerrae
That's called sarcasm, and should make sense to you :) - jakepaulus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Fantastic visualization. It's memorizing really.
- bremmi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree that this is a neat graphical intro for new torrent users. Great job.
- kalmi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4use "-"
(just press it long) - LucasVB, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5People, I know how BitTorrent works, it was just a silly remark about how files don't seem to download that last 0,5% sometimes. I dunno why you all got so crazy about it... It was just a silly joke.
- DomZy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Maybe the seeders are using all their upload slots ;)
- gib0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I want it as a screen saver.
- llurker, on 12/06/2007, -0/+1Site appears to be gone. :(
- Barryke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Exactly, most overlooked is the fact that each peer begins to collect a different (or rare) part of the file (to distribute risk, like missing part of the torrent when all seeders drop)
- milomilomilo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2know it alls bother the ***** out of me.
- cianuro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Very nice. I'm impressed. As mentioned, good idea to show to non technical friends who you are trying to explain Bittorrent to.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's like The Matrix.. decoding the boobs... I can see 'em!
- micromause, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1bah! Java sucks! (cant view - because wont download that *****) =D
- blackbelt88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This is also how and why BitTorrent pisses off ISPs, lol.
Great little applet though. It really is a great visual representation of how BitTorrent works. - dignation, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3It's be nice if you could specify how much of a file each leecher has at the beginning to explain the concept of there not needing to be a whole seed, but it sure looks cool anyway.
- ImperatorTerrae, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6Maybe if you used common sense and the applet it would make sense to you.
- DarkYang, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Actually, I've seen it where leechers give to other leechers, it's usually just before the leecher that's giving is finished.
- LucasVB, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Wow, I guess people got my comment as some sort of attack against Torrents... Which it wasn't.
Geez, you guys suck :| - LucasVB, on 10/12/2007, -16/+10Does it show why sometimes you can only get 99,7% of a file? :P
- magnum818, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2Nice demonstration! I should open another account so I can digg this twice.
- AcidBath, on 10/12/2007, -21/+4No diggs for blog-spam
- shreveyboy, on 10/12/2007, -21/+3Wait, I thought that, even though they are leechers, other leechers are able to leech off what the original leecher has already downloaded from a seeder. This applet doesn't show that.
