- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -5/+18yes but there's a catch... you have to use Opera.
- DasteeZ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12I like the idea, although it isn't practical for me; being one that is already using a bit torrent client. I see this pushing people to stop hosting stuff on their servers, and just using bit torrent widespread for everything.
- joper90, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12does it support encryption? if not then i could be useless for a lot of people..
- kipmartin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Too bad they can't simplify English spelling and grammar for the semi-literate user.
- coolkarthik88, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7this is a very useful thing for all those granny's out there.. . who don't like complicated stuff..
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6straight to the site:
http://www.bitlet.org/ - Giga, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The RIAA will be on her in no time...
...irregardless of whether she uses torrents or not. - elementfire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4No one in their right minds would use the words "cute" and "Java applet" in the same sentence. Death to Java applets!
- so1omon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"Without a lack of regard" of whether she uses torrents or not.
I think you mean "regardless" - BlackOp, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Just use PeerGuardian 2 if you're concerned about privacy. A torrent should download quickly enough if your ISP isn't throttling p2p traffic, you are not uploading too quickly or slowly and there is a decent number of seeds.
Also, would've. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3http://www.bitlet.org/
How it works: http://www.windowhaxor.net/index.php/2007/07/31/bitlet-the-bittorrent-applet/ - Giga, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"I have never used bitTorrent, just because I had tried it 5 times, the last time I tried was like a year ago, and at that time there weren't as many people using it, meaning 5x slower speeds than P2P."
First, how have you never used bittorrent yet had tried it 5 times? Second, bittorrent is P2P. - hankyone, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2true, this is genius
- LukyJay, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Cute? You aint seen nothin' yet!
- lhnz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I find that Windows is even more simple than ubuntu. :P
- tehmoth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Angsto has confused a java applet with a CGI-ish solution
- tehvsx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"if you can't download a torrent what chance do you have with Linux."
Why do you assume they'd want to use Linux? - knetworx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What do you think? Granny hasn't been laid in years! (Pr0n)
- tehmoth, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2yeah, the RIAA/MPAA prefer going after grannies and young kids
- DirtySnachez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If Ubuntu were a global standard OS, you'd prolly feel as comfortable with it as you do Windows.
Give it time... once you buy Crossover Office, theres no single reason to switch back. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2And what torrents is granny going to be interested in???
- TokyoGodfather, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1quick noob question - my grad school in Japan blocks the downloading of torrent files & whenever i run bittorrent (after having someone send me the torrent file ;) , my speeds are 0 so i assume somehow they block bittorrent as well. i have a feeling this won't help get past that, huh?
- meez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Newspeak doubleplusungood
- nexus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3It cant get much simple or better than utorrent. I highly doubt it has a smaller memory footprint than utorrent. However until the day arrives when its made avalible for other platforms this will do nicely.
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3if you can't download a torrent what chance do you have with Linux.
- tybris, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If they block access to torrents (meaning the bittorrent ports) than how do you suppose this would work?
- casta, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Do you like it?
Sara is my beauty girlfriend. ;) - Giga, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I download something from Napster
And the same guy I downloaded it from starts downloading it from me when I'm done
I message him and say "What are you doing? I just got that from you"
"getting my song back *****"
http://bash.org/?104052 - jtb4, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The person made a comment about Linux, along with torrent files.
- Ngai, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1but how safe is grandma....
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Or you could use the Opera browser that has a built-in torrent downloader.
- CrazedGeek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1First off, uTorrent is one of my favorite apps on any platform. But, seriously, I have seen simpler BT clients. Smaller, no, but simpler.
Admittedly, the only one I can think of is Transmission at the moment, but I'm fairly sure that KTorrent is around there somewhere. - xotx69, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Let's not and say we did. The majority of Facebook users use their real identities. Somehow, I don't think people will be jumping on this app.
- ktetch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What difference does PG2 do when it comes to privicy?
Oh thats right, the one's you're worried about publish the IPs they're using, so they can be included in the lists....
NOT
PG2 is a waste of time if you're aiming to 'avoid being found'.
This sums it up neatly
http://neuron2neuron.blogspot.com/2006/05/blocklist-balderdash.html - ktetch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Blackop - maybe you didn't read the writer's Bio - he was one of the copyright enforcers. Its also a big mistake to go 'one person or group of persons are stupid, so they all must be. Hell, maybe that's the image and reaction they're trying to cultivate.
The first rule in any conflict is "always assume your enemy is at least as clever as you". - danglerman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The only problem is that Utorrent has to be running on a local machine, and can't run on many locked or protected computers.
- PonyGumbo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Java sucks.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1you havent got a clue..
- Balk2K, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Great, now everyone can be sued because they link to copyrighted material on their blogs!
I wonder if this will work at uni... - ant9821, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If you know how to install LAMP applications, I would recommend torrent flux. It is a feature-full web-based torrent client and is very easy to set up. I have been using it for a couple of years now. http://www.torrentflux.com
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1what about ubuntu
- Jugalator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I dugg you down and use Opera. Why? Probably for a similar reason as the others. This site doesn't require Opera. It's a more generic solution. Yours is not. And Opera still offers a poor BitTorrent client even in Opera 9.22. It's not even good. It's usable, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's at best on par with this one. And then it's a less generic solution for the same performance.
Opera has many awesome features, and it's an excellent browser, but let's be realistic here -- their BT client is ***** compared to a real client. - BlackOp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's a lot better than nothing. The guy who wrote that article seems to have forgotten that the anti piracy crowd aren't that smart. Remember miivi?
- warezw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0http://www.filecollectorz.com
- abahgat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Well, one of quite clever points about Bitlet is the fact that it doesn't use Java itself for the user interface, but it alters the interface *page* using dynamic javascript.
Even if that may not automatically mean that Bitlet is "cute", that probably makes it a bit less ugly. - BlackOp, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I fail to see why my comment got buried. Firefox fanboys on the loose around here?
- ClOlD, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Want to DO your... , that is. Less wine at this table, please!
- danglerman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I have been waiting for this forever
- behlib99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Your school probably blocks the bit torrent ports
- BxBoy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1uTorrent also has a Web Interface that works pretty well!
