- NickW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30Hey, we're on digg! :)
If anyone needs a hand with this, or has questions, im watching the comments here or you're welcome to email me personally (nick@performancing.com) - echimu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13see some here : http://www.problogger.net/archives/2006/03/10/performancing-metrics-review/
- sometemple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13you've been busy. now that's what i call support. this guy is monitoring the digg comment threads, actively posting in the forums on his own site, etc. I've signed up and gotten everything running in 5 minutes. I don't see any ads anywhere. My question is... how is this profitable for you guys?
- merz1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6PMetrics is here. What is it? A server based multiple blog analysis solution. The software sits on a performancing.com server and aggregates your data through some pieces of code which you have to throw in your template (Blogger, WordPress, MovableType, etc.)
I am using it on two of my Blogger test blogs and it works fine. Another great tool from the performancing.com crew. First they published the awesome Performancing for Firefox extension (PFF) and now this great new server based analytics package. I am going to add it to some more blogs in the very near future :-)
They already announced a blog aggregating feature for PMetrics for multiple blogs to come in the near future!
Recommended server based statistics! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I thought it looked interesting, but the more I thought about it - it's just a fancier (and web based) version of every other stats app out there. I'm still a big fan of analog for speed and awstats for a compromise of speed and interface.
I can see that if I ran a little blog off somewhere (on Blogger or whatever?) it might be pretty cool, since it's a simple process to toss some stats up and people visiting it might not care if they're delayed by an extra half second during page display to hit the stats server.
I still think people spend too much time worrying about their sites stats though. Even I don't pay attention to my stats and I run a fairly large site (not digg large). I probably look at my stats once or twice a year to see how many million visits per month I'm averaging and then I forget about it until the next year.
Largely, I think worrying about your site stats is like worrying about your salary. Focusing on how much money you make won't help you make more. Focusing on your job and your productivity and your networking will eventually lead to raises and promotions and better offers and that will lead to a higher salary. Likewise, rather than focusing on stats - I wish people focused more on content.
Same reason I hate all these "SEO" tutorials and scams. Heh. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree it seems like a good job, but I don't think it's "hard to believe" they only started a few months ago. I mean, come on - parsing log files isn't rocket science. And getting the info from the user and their browser to a third party server is simple enough. Then all they need to do is design a way to present the data they parse into a nice little graphical interface and put it on the web. Hell, they could use any of the current popular log parsing applications out there to do all the work for them and then just write some rrdtool stuff to go through the database that the application generations and show that on a website. Then they have almost no work to do at all! :)
- hackman7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4need more services like this.
http://www.crazyegg.com/
can't wait for this thing though, it looks amazing for viewing page clicks and stats. - levee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yep, the Performancing guys are doing a sterling job at the moment. Hard to believe they launched their site only a few months ago. Digg.
- cross, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Looks useful. Glad to see someone else join in the game.
- CrackHappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm not going to use this, as seumas has so clearly pointed out that anyone could easily make a fantastic tool with almost no work.
I'm going to wait for seumas to come out with his blogging tools as I Know they will be the BOMB!
:) - jbstrick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Get MINT.
- vdxc, on 09/29/2008, -0/+2Google Analytics is great, just because Google is struggling to keep up with demand does not mean it's worse than it's competitors. Going by the Synopsis I presume the submitter does not like the XBox 360 because they struggled to make enough in time?
- latour, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, let's say you move from server A to server B and want to carry the stats over which is a pain in the ass. I use a stats program for my website called webreflow, i had to move from server a to b and also the stats database. With Google or somthing else you don't have to since it doesn't live on your server.
- cochise22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So this will work just as well with a site that is not necessarily a blog?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can't imagine why it wouldn't...?
I wonder why blog providers don't already offer stats services? I've never used a "blog" service so maybe they do. But... if they did, then I presume nobody would care about Analytics or this company's stuff...? - dmoney06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Maybe he has more than one?
- NickW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dmoney, ive no idea what iweb is, is it the new apple publishing jobbie?
I'd love it if you would post that in our forums, or email me with much greater detail, then we can really look into that properly.
im at nick@performancing.com
Thanks all the digg guys and girls, great feedback, both for and against, I appreciate every bit of it.. - davereid20, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've made a plugin for integrating Performancing Metrics and Wordpress at http://davereid.net/projects/wordpress/performancing_metrics/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I put it up on test this morning. It looks good. It already provides much more useful information that does Google (Urchin) but as has been pointed out, it is available to all. I'll be adding it to more blogs in the next few days, I highly Digg it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1good question
- toastgodsupreme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very cool looking.
- lament, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1looks like you didn't set up Google Analytics right.
- SniperGX1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Hopefully it will be nice and easy to block like google analytics. Don't need my privacy invaded any more than the republicans attempt to do.
- phntm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2this project looks horribly small, i fear it will not scale to demand
- m85476585, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So how many people actually got Google Analytics? I did.
- liquidedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good to see. Everyone in the beta test on this site has been raving about this stuff.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am liking performancing metrics
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But then my pages will load slower while the javascript thing contacts another server which could be who knows how many hops away from the visitor each and every time a page is loaded. I suppose that might not be a huge delay with google, but I wouldn't be so sure for other sites.
I guess I can see the point in this for smaller sites. Maybe hosted sites or blogs. But I think this has limited benefits for the general webmaster. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is there any particular reason I would want or need to use this (or Google Analytics) over 'awstats' or 'analog'?
- taxonimous, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Looks just what I need for my blogs.
- rprins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It took me a second to find the place to get the JavaScript to my site, but after I found it I put it on my site. Time to see how it turns out. It does look promising.
- mdvaldosta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Something to look into since G won't ever send a damn invite!
- cageyjames, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Beta is free, but will the final be?
I'm guessing that there is no API either, but I hope one is planned so one can integrate it into Wordpress like Google Analytics can be. - pongx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is an API. It looks pretty good. We will probably see some kind of Wordpress integration soon enough.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It would be more like saying "The PS3 clearly sucks because the XBOX 360 is out TODAY!"
- beatniak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It says so in the instructions: "Copy & paste the following Javascript in the footer template just before the closing body tag: ...."
So yeah, it won't bother that much with loadingtimes if you got off the hook and use CSS instead.
(Nice suggestion: RTFM?)
Setting up took me less than 5mins. If i don't like it, i'll delete the code. But i guess that code will stay there for a while... - dpk87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Could you not just add the javascript to the bottom of the page?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I did some testing this morning. I found that it has 95% accuracy and it gives you a whole bunch of information than anything that is out there. The best thing is that it doesn't have to show an image on your website. I would recommend it to everybody.
I did the testing on TECH BLOG.
TECH BLOG uses performancing metrics now and they are public...
http://technopedia.info/tech - gilsmethod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very nice find....I've been using their firefox extension for some time now and I must admit very impressed...
- Jams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow, that looks really pretty.
- sygyzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well figured out how to add it to my blog. I hope I can discover more things about it today.
- tysonwilliams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Got for my blog - looks great and hope it works well...
- ahmerhussain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1if you sign up they provide instructions for wordpress.
- h4lfl1ng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually analytics is still better IMO. It produces more information, plus it works with your ad-sense. Also you can setup custom graphs. Analytics may be Google's only good product along with google maps..IMO
Also Minty is awesome. But you have to pay for it.. :( - accidental, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Guy who wrote this isnt even in Analytics, how can you make a comparison?
- toastgodsupreme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2you read my mind.
first thing when ever i'm at ANY product's website is look at the screen shots - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Read the review
http://technopedia.info/tech/2006/03/16/performancing-metrics-reviewed.html - JoyrexJ9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just tried this out - meh - doesn't seem better than Google Analytics at all, less stats and graphs, plus there is no (easy) way to exclude my own hits... True that Google Analytics isn't real time, but who really needs that.
I'll stick with Google for now. - kenni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great information. Have a look at http://www.iwebtool.com/tools/ & http://www.iwebtool.com/
