- nypix, on 09/03/2008, -4/+130The chrome Funding Bill is passed. The system goes on-line September 2nd, 2008. Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. Google begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 p.m. Eastern time, September 3rd. In a panic, they try to pull the plug.
Google attacks mankind. - Dronez, on 09/03/2008, -1/+82The Chrome logo looks like those old simon says games from the 90s.
- FreakinSyco, on 09/03/2008, -4/+75Google Internet Browser?
Google Internet?
Google Web Browser?
Google Browser?
Google we haz ur data?
None of them have a good ring to it. - ScottyF311, on 09/03/2008, -4/+65Google Search, Google Calendar, Google News...Google Chrome? What's with the abstract name?
- mdaize, on 09/03/2008, -18/+74Why is it all these browser tests NEVER include Opera???? It is a very functional, quick browser...
- dcmjzero, on 09/03/2008, -2/+56Chrome is the technical name given to the frame around the webpage in browsers. Firefox uses the same term. Look it up.
- VigRoco, on 09/03/2008, -4/+44Go FireFox 3.1b!
- dcmjzero, on 09/03/2008, -0/+33I tried it, but I miss my firefox extensions.
- UrlorJkron, on 09/03/2008, -0/+29Froogle was my favorite. Apparently Google Product Search is a superior name.
- JetKrosswind, on 09/03/2008, -4/+31Google is on its way to becoming Skynet. Lol.
- ralphthemagi, on 09/03/2008, -2/+27Ads everywhere! OH THE HUMANITY!! Oh hey, I can get a cheaper mortgage if I just click here...
- SkippyDoorknob, on 09/03/2008, -0/+22From the 90's?!?!
Oh dear... Try the late 70's...
And get off my lawn! - ricksite, on 09/03/2008, -0/+20Did you even read the article? He says, "It's the same system I used to test Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3 RC3, Safari for Windows, and Opera 9.5, so you can make fair comparisons between all the browsers." and it links to this page:
http://lifehacker.com/396048/speed-testing-the-lat ... - uglypercy, on 09/03/2008, -5/+22Chrome is really, really fast. Making it my default until I see any problems big enough to force me back to Firefox.
- Nicoon, on 09/03/2008, -0/+16You forgot Google Explorer :P
- legoalert33, on 09/03/2008, -1/+14Google Bling?
- cmorriss, on 09/03/2008, -1/+14As is the case with most of the crap like this posted on Digg, it is blog spam fear mongering:
http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/does_google_h ... - erichw1504, on 09/03/2008, -1/+13I'm sticking with Firefox 3 and wait to see what Chrome 1.0 has to offer.
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -1/+12I never fully trust these performance reports. Although, I must admit that Chrome is moving nice and fast. It would be even faster with ABP!
- UrlorJkron, on 09/03/2008, -0/+11But it's a google beta. It's going to be beta for a long, long time.
- ColorBlind, on 09/03/2008, -3/+13Google we haz ur life
- rumor, on 09/03/2008, -0/+9i miss froogle :[
- MrMysterious, on 09/03/2008, -1/+10A day in on my Google Chrome usage and so far I am pretty happy. Speed wise all these browsers are going to be pretty quick, I'm more about the user experience. In that department Firefox has been winning because of the tons of extensions for it, but Google can't be far behind.
- Macuyiko, on 09/03/2008, -0/+9It's explained in the Chrome Googlebook, or: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_interface_chrome
Basically Chrome means user interface (which might hint to plans with Google Chrome - a general web application user interface).
(Edit: dcmjzero beat me to it :).) - tattertech, on 09/03/2008, -2/+10Yeah but this is homegrown not acquisition.
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -1/+9So far so good on my system. Enjoying the experience...
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -3/+11I am sure Chrome 1.0 will be much much better than current 0.2.
- Sabretou, on 09/03/2008, -0/+8It's sending terminators to kill Bill Gates' mother!
- durga2112, on 09/03/2008, -0/+7"it's like the version of Opera that doesn't completely suck."
Which version - the one without all the.. uh, what do you call them... features? - Jektal, on 09/03/2008, -1/+8Best things about Chrome?
1. Right-Click -> Inspect Element
2. Task Manager (right click on empty spot in tab bar)
3. Porn Mode - AvidPreatorian, on 09/03/2008, -12/+19Chrome would be a worthy browser if not for this crap: http://digg.com/software/Google_Claims_Ownership_o ...
- swears, on 09/03/2008, -2/+9Google is going to take over the world.
- gluecode, on 09/03/2008, -0/+6Chrome is really fast. I like the clean UI and the way new tabs spawn and are detachable. I wish they support add-ons. I really need a bookmark organizer, preferably delicious or Google bookmarks.
- lukedamonkey, on 09/03/2008, -0/+6Well I like the speed, and the unbloated feel of chrome. Firefox just goes too slow for me. and ie well, sucks.
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -1/+7Chrome vs. Firefox on my Vista box gets different results than this test, Chrome is faster on everything (but still buggy w/ flash)
Chrome uses less RAM for me as well but I keep getting a memory leak on FF though, maybe I need a reinstall. - jman2807, on 09/03/2008, -2/+8I mean since google desktop pretty much just created an index of every file on my computer and uploaded it to google, Im not sure how much more damage chrome could do.
- veduvaru, on 09/03/2008, -0/+6look like windows media player 10 icon
- clearlychris, on 09/03/2008, -4/+10Orkut?
Picasa?
Chrome isn't a huge leap from some of the names of their other services. - dcmjzero, on 09/03/2008, -2/+8It renders pages faster. It feels more responsive to clicks and scrolling (at least to me). And you can't beat the Javascript speed.
- Nicoon, on 09/03/2008, -0/+5Inspect Element? Thanks! I didn't even notice that functionality until you mentioned it.
- Binarydemon, on 09/03/2008, -4/+9Why isnt anyone benchmarking Opera? Historically Opera has always been the fastest at javascript and rendering.
- azbmr, on 09/03/2008, -0/+5I can't leave AdBlockPlus and Firebug.
- orlyfactor, on 09/03/2008, -1/+6I am not happy that Chrome does not have its own proxy settings. I hack through the corporate firewall here (it's a joke) using SSH and a proxy running on my box, and I have to use the same proxy settings as IE? F that.
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -3/+8People like you let dictatorships rise up.
- FrankTheTank17, on 09/03/2008, -2/+6Why no Opera on the list? I'd like a graph showing all browsers, not the default, brand new, and popular three...
- turion64, on 09/03/2008, -1/+5I don't think I'll be switching from Firefox any time soon, however Chrome is looking good so far, in fact I'm running it at the moment. Chrome runs a little smoother for me because of the lack of addons, however I really do with that Chrome will at some point start supporting .xpi, I'd like to have a fair comparison with addons, not just a bare browser.
- SamOut, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4Chrome is teh sexay.
- dcmjzero, on 09/03/2008, -1/+5That would be sad. There are a lot of useful things that can be done with extensions that are not related to ad blocking. For example, I use a FF extension to enable click and drag (like Adobe Reader) on my tablet. I don't think Google has much to worry about when it comes to ad-blocking: I only block flash and animated picture ads, and last I checked, Google has only text ads.
- SteveMax, on 09/03/2008, -2/+6Orkut isn't an acquisition either.
