digg += 1 - Sithseth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2When has the day come, that on digg, we need to apologize for what we think my be a repost? I mean come one people, dont apologize, if it becomes one of the top diggs, it's there for a reason.
- Darth_tater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Wow, actually a new, different list of things for a change. Dugg."
exactly right. i adugg it just because you apoligised, unlike ALL the others
+digg - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You must be a poor loser if you have 16 mb ram. You may ask how did I know that? Its obvious, because why else would you complain over 3 mb of ram? If you could afford anything higher than 16 mb ram, say 128 mb ram, then .NET apps would run with low memory usage and sys resource usage on your computer.
.NET is by no means bloated. Its very very very slightly slower (4 mb of ram). - SillyRabbit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1mikeod: it does.
- mogdor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Jeez, look what it's come to - people feeling like they have to apologize in case someone has heard the news already. So sick and tired of all the morons screaming "old news" about everything. Just because you may have heard about something doesn't mean everyone has. Get over yourselves, you old-newsers.
- saysaknow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg isn't in the website section but del.icio.us is.
- GlassUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Beware spyware. Plaxo? Come on.
- gfarrar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ok, that was the best list i've seen in a while.. i just picked up so many new utils my head is spinng.. finally got me off my ass to register and digg something.
- MrDolomite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, actually a new, different list of things for a change. Dugg.
- ziffel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice list. Autoruns is awesome!
- silent1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Endpoint: Personally, I think the whole idea of 'drive mapping' is ridiculous and outdated in general. It's completely unnecessary for anything but ancient applications. Assigning things to drive letters ... (shakes head)
- redivider, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Ever want to check a VB6 COM dll to see if it's been appropriately compiled with "Retain in Memory" and "Unattended Execution" set to true for correct execution under MTS?"
Can't say that I have... nice list though. - turgiddahlia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Already got all the good ones, but this is a sweet list.
- orsoihaveheard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you do much Wintel development, definitely pore over that list, Scott's got some good stuff there... not too many items that are flat out crap. Plaxo is though.
Get your ass some Clemens Vasters buildday. Sure it's simple, but some day you'll understand why lol. - bytefoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apologies? No need mate! That's why we've got those fancy reporting tools. :)
- Vulpes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0boy, when he says list, he really means list.
- Xinex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great list.
- wingo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0re post above "I would MUCH rather it come from an MVP award winner (or even MS devloper), they know the system inside and out."
-well thats why it takes microsoft so long to cover attacks from 13 yrs old finnish teenagers.
-i could not see Total Commander in there which makes me worried. it has saved me hours through the years. www.ghisler.com - playastation, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i digg the alt tab replacer + topdesk.. yes.
- kickarse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thats great!
- efree58, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good list, not as noob friendly, aka me, but good none the less
- akira117, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 WOW nospam, this submission surprised me it's actually good!
It is very well put together thanks for submitting it.
- mdc777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well dugg
- concept03, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Excellent list.
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, if ANYone is going to havethe best ideas for the best Windows Apps, I would MUCH rather it come from an MVP award winner (or even MS devloper), they know the system inside and out.
- 1ivewire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0More than the usual crap that I see on every other list. It's amazing how much Windows can be modified to adopt some newer operating system paradigms.
- xafan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3This is a horrible list and he seems to have some sort of fanboyism towards the bloated language known as .NET.
You need a SEPARATE application to take desktop shots? Try the Print key. I stopped taking this list seriously after he said to get Microsoft's Desktop Search. - Wantednz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0He still needs to find a nice HTML editor obviously.
- pr0t3st, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well done!
Thanks for posting. - pcgeek101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Not bad ... not bad ... I really like the TestDrive.NET tool! I didn't know there was a free IDE like that (there is an open-source somewhere too though).
@xafan: firstly, .NET is not a language. .NET is a framework which several different languages support, and it is not "bloated" (where do you get that from?). If you're saying that just because you think Microsoft is the only vendor who supports it .. guess what? You're wrong. http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page - Endpoint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0One that's sat in my system tray and gets my vote is DriveMapPRO. It's a pretty unique app for managing your drive mappings. http://www.mattcollinge.co.uk/dmp/
- lbtori, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0haha sad.. i actually have his asp.net book on my desk lol
- bdwoolman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hot diggity dugg.
d:-b ruce - pcgeek101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2notepad++ makes a nice html editor :) :)
- xafan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No, it's because the "framework" takes about 30MB of RAM to render a simple GUI in Windows. Would you consider that not bloated? I could care less if it's Microsoft or not, I feel the same way about Java.
- AuAndCs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww he recomended plaxo!!! ewwwwwwww
- bertdevriese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0TopDesk is great!
- xafan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Guess what!? 16MB of RAM for a simple GUI is STILL obscene. Lets take a nicely coded application done in standard WIN32 API and C/++ such as uTorrent, 4MB of RAM. Winamp playing a 91 minute podcast with a custom skin, 7MB. mIRC connected to 4 servers and 8 channels, 6.5MB.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0topdesk is awsom also if u use flyakite it relly topps off ur box
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0noice one!
- mork571, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That Whiteboard Photo app is very impressive.. there's a couple of images in the before/after that amazed me.
Also, I got a chuckle out of it, as we take pics of whiteboards at work quite a bit... I didn't realize it was a common enough practice that someone would develop an app for it (nevermind such an impressive app).
I was just floored by how well it compensated for angles and poor lighting.
I think it's priced a little wee high - as impressive as it is, it doesn't really offer a whole lot of value. Even the corporate crowd needs to justify purchases.. - beez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Any list that doesn't have PuTTy ( http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/ ) on it seems incomplete.
- dravidian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Darn I was hoping for something lifechanging - the stuff listed in there are handy but i'd likely only use a few of them. Dugg though because its at least worth checking out.
- RWVolkl158, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Looking through a bunch of (GUI) apps I've written in C# and none use more then 10.5MB of ram.
- jpyun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0$249 for a program that turns a picture of a whiteboard into a crisp image? Are they on ***** crack?
Did the guy who made this list pay two hundred and forty nine ***** dollars for a program that does THAT? - SweetsGreen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0saw this back in the summer
- merkul, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Didn't anyone else notice this guy is affil'd with microsoft? Check out the Microsoft MVP award he has on the bottom of his page.
- Gronkk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0***** BRILLIANT!
That list is gonna change my developing habits forever. - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Digg should have a seperate section from the front page for "Windows/Linux/Mac optimization/utilities tips".
