- cfsporn, on 10/12/2007, -7/+53I just hope it uses less RAM.
- sbrown123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+47"some of us HAVE tried both, some of us actually like Azereus for its feature-set,"
Some of us don't run Windows. Just thought I would add one reason why uTorrent is not always the answer. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -17/+56why do all you ***** asshats insist on using on using an article about Azureus to advertise your ***** feature-lacking client.
some of us HAVE tried both, some of us actually like Azereus for its feature-set, and some of us would prefer to NOT see every second post be about utorrent.
tell you what, the next time utorrent has an article, I'm gonna spam the ***** out of Azereus's link! - stmiller, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40Or just start your current Azureus and it will auto-update.
- beelz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25http://azureus.sourceforge.net/changelog.php?version=2.5.0.0
- ezrider0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I love azureus. Its by far the best client for os X
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Hey, and those of you that use utorrent that aren't happy with the feature-set should try out Azereus.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15If you do insist on posting a link to your ***** client, at least post a link to the download for Linux and OS X as well since this is about Azureus.
- Dochtuir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Those claiming Azureus is taking insane amount of RAM, try this:
Azureus.exe -J-Xmx64m
To limit the JVM to 64mb of heap memory. - Bloc, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15@ drunkendash
if cfsporn is 'one of the most ignorant bigot's' you've ever met, you must live a pretty sheltered life. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15i dont think this guy even knows what bigot means
- shadowmoses, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Good update tested in OS X seem to be getting better download speed's so all is good!!!
- gmillerd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Holy 10,000+ seeds with 10,000+ peers
- LaughingMan11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I use azureus myself on OS X... it's the cadillac of bitorrent clients, but i am also partial to Transmission, which is more svelte than the somewhat bloated Azureus.
- KWhat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@insomniac8400
Why would I use wine when there at clients that will work with out it. Wine is fandtastic dont get me wrong but when I can avoid using it, I DO. It it to buggy and just as slow as java. - ArchieAndrews, on 10/12/2007, -14/+20No doubt. This is the primary reason for my switch to uTorrent. It was no fun leaving a torrent to run all night, get up, wake the computer and watch the wallpaper stripe back into view as the machine reclaims the needed RAM back from Azureus.
- ucg1, on 10/12/2007, -13/+19For all you asshats plugging uTorrent, let me know when uTorrent has a working web interface (yes I know they are working on one) and runs natively in Linux (yes I know about WINE). Until then, stay the ***** out of Azureus threads.
- XStatic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Azureus has Console and Telnet plugins
http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/ConsoleUI
http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/TelnetUI - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Awesome, Finder integration in OSX! A small footprint client it is not, but I have yet to see anything better when it comes to managing multiple uploads. The best client if you are publishing files.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5er... read my post again, I'm an Azereus user thats pissed off that utorrent is being spammed, duh!
- MrSelfDestruct, on 10/12/2007, -11/+15uTorrent is the best client for Linux too thanks to wine.
- furrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Nice changes. I stopped using Azureus a month or so ago in favor of Transmission but now that the Finder integration is better I might give it another look. Theres few features in Transmission that really make the software for me that I would miss if I went back though.
-Auto cleaning of torrents: Use Open With in Firefox and the torrent barely touches the desktop before it's loaded in and hidden within the program. No more .torrents lying everywhere.
-Auto stop for seeding rates: Set your seed to 3.0 and it stops uploading once it hits the right ratio. ( Might be in Azureus but it's interface isn't as clean )
-Small and compact- Trasmission is basically a dock icon that manages your torrents. You can tell what your upload and download rates are and whether or not anything has finished without opening a window. It also uses less CPU and Memory and doesn't suffer from as much random slowdown as Azureus ( java collecting garbage?)
I haven't noticed much of a speed (with respect to d/l ) difference between the two but I might update tommorow and race them when some subs are released. - AssProphet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3when I tried Transmission, it seemed to download much slower and it wasn't as configurable as Azureus. Did I do something wrong, or is it just inferior? I did testing with the same torrent in different programs.
- FreeiPodGuy.com, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Yeah, it seems pretty stupid. At the very least the descriptions should say what the program does for those of us who have never heard of it.
- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Wallpaper striping back into view?
I think that's your operating system, not your BitTorrent client ;-) . - MarcTheLad, on 10/12/2007, -17/+20For you PC folk that are picky about Azureus' memory consumption, check out uTorrent. http://www.utorrent.com/
It doesn't have as many features as Azureus, but it's really lightweight and quick. - PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's a completely different client, very simple and "pretty." It's not as full-featured as Azureus, made for a different audience.
- idesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm finding this update isn't as snappy GUI-wise under OS X. Anyone else?
- krasht, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I used to use Azureus on OS X but it seemed rather bloated to me (was actually quite good on my Windblows, gaming box). I currently use Transmission and I am very happy with it. Downloading multipal torrents can easily suck up all my bandwidth if I let it.
- zen.state, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3azureus is BY FAR the greatest and most powerful torrent app. period.
- Hellfire51, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't understand how people can blatantly say that uTorrent is a better client. I use both because neither one is the 'Best'. uTorrent is light and simple. Azureus is bigger, but has a lot more power and features. Beyond that, it totally depends on how you use your bittorrent client. Either way, if you are using bitcomet or bittornado or any of those other ones, I suggest you switch to Azureus or uTorrent.
- btboudreaux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@nofxjunkee
utorrent does those things. I used to use Azureus but utorrent is more lightweight. The only "feature" my torrent client needs is to be able to download torrents. - Jacob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't use it on linux because the stupid announcement window stays open and I can't get it to go away, every desktop and on top of all windows annoying as hell.
- mc4_a, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11"incubusnb"
I'd say good luck with the spamming...granted it will be a little limited since your machine will be bogged down by Azureus. - frukt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"Someone please enlighten me... what features do you need that utorrent doesn't have. I'm honestly curious. "
I'm an Azureus user myself, but I'm curious as well. Does uTorrent have decent DHT support? In case a tracker is down, will uTorrent still find peers like azureus does? What about other features? Yes, azureus feels a bit bloated (it's java's fault, whatever the fanboys say) but I'm somewhat reluctant to make the switch - it *is* an extremely good torrent client no matter what. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4uTorrent is for deticated-leechers.
Just look at all the comments that promote uTorrent, they only state that it's a low memory usage app and great for poping in and downloading torrents.
That's not really a smart thing to do if you only use the client for downloading and not contributing back(Seeding).
Azureus is great for seeding, it even shows you your rank among millions of people, encouraging you that you would not have those great download speeds without people taking time and sharing(seeding) after they downloaded what they got.
So, yes Azureus maybe a bit of a resource hog, but it is full of deticated seeders who make our downloading experience a much better.
uTorrent is like a covertable proshe 911, yes it looks nice, it runs really well, however it only has two seats. Thus, it's not really car for bunch of friends to drive.(Not a good seeder)
Azureus is like a couch bus, might take up space/higher fuel usage(resource hog) but it has however more room for people, so more can enjoy the ride.(A more of a deticated seeder)
And by the way, stop with promotion of uTorrent on Azureus pages, your not even getting payed to do it.
Yes you may say that utorrent is a great program and even provide a link, but what for? Your not getting any credit for it, your not even get payed to do it.
Okay, what if I magically switched?
How will you know it?
Will there be a messege in your email inbox thanking for refering some one to uttorrent.
The last time I checked, I think not.
Basically, I suggest looking at a larger picture then copying and pasting what the guy before you said. - KWhat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That would be the buggs i am talking about...I can get it to go away just be restarting the program from the file menu but its really a headache
- enkoopa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I seed until I'm 2:1.
- Fryth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm especially excited about the prospect of encrypted tracker communications. I'm on a Canadian ISP (Rogers) that is using some kind of new technology to filter it, and I think it's working by removing the IP's from packets to and from the tracker. Hopefully this will allow us to use BitTorrent again... Seems they want to kill all BT use, whether it's legal or not.
- hotani, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I have found torrent nirvana via Azureus, RSS Feedscanner and 2GB of RAM. It is always running. :-)
- CpnCapacitor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2One killer feature missing from most torrent managers. And one I'd really love to see for Azureus....
a command-line interface!
A way to stop torrents from the CLI.
A way to add new torrents frm the CLI as well.
please someone do this! augh! - etempest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use Azureus and have 1gb ram and it runs fine, I can multi-task and such. I can even run GuildWars while it's working just fine.
- cfsporn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The one problem with Transmission is that on some trackers it gives you a negative ratio.
- cfsporn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1On the Mac it is a huge RAM hog.
- bash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Alternatives are fine. Mentioning uTorrent is fine.
MENTIONING IT WHEN IT IS TOTALLY IRRELEVANT TO A STORY ABOUT AN AZUREUS UPDATE IS NOT. - evilTak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ooo, I've been waiting for an update. Looks like a lot of features and fixes went into this version. Well worth a donation!
- ibis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm assuming you are using windows. If you aren't, and happen to be using Linux, ktorrent can be controlled from the command line using dcop. This is what I use. I have a python script that does my RSS watching for me, then when it finds a torrent that matches my searches it uses dcop to add it to my ktorrent queue.
- LocDawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OMG now we're getting Automatix spam!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just checked the status of a torrent that I've, so far, seeded to 7.845:1 and thats just one torrent, on the private networks I'm on I like to maintain an average of 5:1 seeding ratio or more depending on the site.
If my ISP would give me more monthly data transfer I would seed most torrents indefinately provided I had the HD space to accomidate.
Azereus Represent! - kontact, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2install azureus with automatix, fixes all the bugs it has... such as the alert windows that won't close and the lack of a tray icon.
