Capt. Jean-Luc Piccardi of the USS Enterprise - Shadez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+54and I thought my computer wouldn't judge me for my looks = (
- unknamed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+50This is the first step in automatic plastic surgery devices for the home.
User: "Computer, make me look like Colin Farrel."
Computer: "Affirmative. Loading Colin Powell facial restructuring data."
*ominous laser warming up sound*
User: "Stupid computer, I said Colin F-A-R-R-E-L."
Computer: "...... ..... ...... Affirmative. Loading Danny Devito data now... " - junkalam, on 10/12/2007, -4/+50I hope they don't come up with a male version.
It will only confirm how unattractive I am and lower my self esteem even more. *sigh*
/not really..hehe
get in line ladies.. - mcfarag, on 10/12/2007, -3/+48It's quite pathetic when you have to go to a computer for reassurance on your looks...
I have a feeling the people that will utilize this most will be the most disappointed - shreveyboy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+42Your title reminds of a line from Little Britain: "Computer says no...."
- shaun1018, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31Holy Cow! Look at her symmetrical ratios!
- jpfree, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29Computer Says No
- tzone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26what exactly defines beautiful im sure some people have a lot of different ideas
- sensor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27Little Britain reference in the tittle? ^_^
- ojk007, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24You obviously dont understand the point of this.
- TDTech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Sucks to be the guy who gets a 10 on a system that works only on women.
- Xpoc, on 10/12/2007, -7/+24Yeah, this is what this kind of software would be interesting to use for. Apparently it does a decent job of gaging attractiveness with 1.5 point error margin.
If emo's get a hold of this software, it could potentially raise the suicide rate. - DirtySnachez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19This should be a mandatory plugin for my beer-googles.
- lordsandwich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13So now computers can judge me just like women at a bar. And I can't even get it drunk. *****.
- GrimReeper, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I want to see how this will compare to say the FHM Top100 most beautiful women and etc
- loki440, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15"Are you beatiful? Computer says yes."
Now if science could just create a computer that could check spelling. . . - OpticalLiam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Better not let it see the users of Digg!
- bobbknight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I know a few chicks that look BEAT.
I know some chicks that are BEAUTIFUL.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I say wirjo uses English as a second nay third language.
Does anyone care that some guys made a computer program that looks a facial symmetry and sets a value for it? - chingy1788, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Just like the lawn mower
- righteousyellow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I came here to mention that, but you beaut me to it.
- chingy1788, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14What a computer finds hot...
Lets ask Bender - anamanaman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10That's like, uhh, deep and all but you're living in a delusion. It's just math equations, whether a computer is doing it, or the little neurons in your head are matching patterns and telling your brain that a girls face represents someone who will enhance your gene pool.
According to the article, its just a face pattern matching algorithm that compares someone against what "society" judges as beautiful (duh.. models). - montek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7And to think, the submitter didn't even HAVE to check the spelling. He could have just copied and pasted from the article. Plus, there's a "Check Spelling" button. *sigh*
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's total crap that a computer is going to rate your looks based on a 200 freaks... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but that is a different issue.
It isn't like those 200 faces aren't the only beautiful varieties in the world. - Flanker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Can you spell "beautiful?" Computer says no.
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7and the black box (which was ripped off by a pom)

- Balk2K, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5mmm, better turn off your webcam...
- skywake, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8hey... us Australians have made a lot of awesome things...
like the Esky, Ute, Hills Hoist and the fridge...
all linked to alcohol consumption
and not forgetting the best of all...
AFL... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7it depends on individual people and cultural ideas as well.
i for one think most women who use make-up, and especially eyeliner, are downright ugly. you're entitled to your opinion, but that's the honest me, for example. similarly, i think large breasts and being super-thin also look ugly. again, that's my view, but i'm illustrating that my idea of beauty may not be the average american one. - brynjarh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Beauty is not a property of an object, it doesn't exist "out there", it's different to every entity because they perceive the world differently from one another, there is no way this computer can measure beauty.
It could be useful though on some human level, but in any case it's a grouse overstatement to say that it can measure beauty. - aussieNickuss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Its only the beginning on the road towards Gattaca.
- gabangel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Something like this could be used to do more than measure beauty, it could be used to define it and weed out diverseness. Scary thought. "This is what's beautiful. THERE'S NO GETTING AROUND IT! The computer doesn't lie!" Give me a break.
- phaed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Its not like ugly people don't already know their ugly
- oriondr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Whoa, they should totally build this 'Am I beautiful or not' technology into a mirror...
- mindlessxd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Computer, do these pants make me look fat?"
- RadioFreeOpium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5for when having a human being calling you ugly isn't enough...
- JorgeGonzalez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Am I beatiful? Probably, yeah. I mean, I'm a nerd so I'm obviously not that strong and very vulnerable to being beat up.
- diggblowsgoat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@jrocknyc
"Can anyone think of ONE certifiably gorgeous person who has had a major impact on the world, positive or negative?"
Yes, Hedy Lamarr. She invented spread spectrum. - ab2650, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@jrocknyc
"...symmetry, proportioned size/distance of eyes/nose/mouth, clear skin, etc. are pretty universal."
Someone tell that to Uma Thurman. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpqZTFTCsN0 - aussieNickuss, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Its not really the computer that decides how beautiful you are......it's the large panel of judges that came up with "what is" an attractive face which the software is based on.
- punwin, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Leave it to us Australians to create something so great!
- flarn2006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Where's the download link?
- katiey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i'd like to take a series of photos while drinking and see how my beauty changes. not that i'd want to go home w/ a computer at last call...
- yahoofrom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Move to Japan. Japanese ladies love womanly mens.
- smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2well, you see what you want to see i guess. it's natural to try to reinforce your own views with selective observation. i haven't observed what you claim though. evolutionarily speaking it doesn't make sense either, since if that were true, people would tend to be more attracted to their relatives, leading to incest.
- BigBill62629, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4That's the first thing I thought of, too.
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2 I'm not talking about incest.
You can see in those pictures at the link you submitted most of the people share a similar trait such as a similar looking nose, jawline etc. -
