- MioTheGreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15That's because the .NET Framework does not work under WINE.
- LucasVB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8This would go great with one of those mouse odometers. "Your mouse cursor travelled: 180.2342342 miles"
- dipswitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5There is no system tray.
Read: http://blogs.msdn.com/oldnewthing/archive/2003/09/10/54831.aspx - dereklam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Cool concept, especially for 1 day of coding!
Enhancement requests:
1. Use the "standard" every 5 characters = 1 word as pointed out above.
2. Allow the green / gold / red / white scale to be customized via properties dialog. If a user "only" types 90 wpm, the user could customize green = 0-29 wpm, gold = 30-59 wpm, red = 60-89 wpm, white = 90+ wpm etc.
3. Fix the "size handles" mouse cursor issue as described in the known issues
(The source is available but not everyone has VS.Net etc.) - fujimonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And you distingish words by what exactly?
- cvelusc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Secretary's worst nightmare.
- Locuester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@tiga31328 - the behavior that you describe would occur if you didn't type anything. I left it out of my brief documentation of the application (as I thought it was obvious), but the app does require you to type in order to display the typing speed...
- Locuester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Visual C# Express is free, and can compile all of the applications that I write! Check it out!
- Locuester, on 10/12/2007, -11/+13All enjoy! Next app coded at 23:50 GMT. Join in at anappaday.com.
- Smokezz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A word is anything separated by a space, tab or carriage return? Wow... what a lame way to calculate WPM...
- Xperamental, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4need .Net 2.0 Framework
- Teaboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2151wpm?
*cough*******cough* - hindweb, on 08/06/2009, -0/+1Cool job for a days work. Here is another one, this one counts words, characters and even your typing speed.
http://www.wordcountertool.com/ - bubba9er, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So now I'll really be able to see when I've just been working too much when my wpm takes a dive. Green means go home!
- blenderstyle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Man, you guys talking crap are a bunch of dicks. He designed this application in one day! Let's see your one-day programming projects, and we'll tell you how crappy they are.
- IamTheProfessor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"This is useless if the measure of WPM doesn't follow any commonly accepted standards (which it doesn't). A "word" in WPM is not literally a word, as the programmer has erroneously assumed."
This program isn't meant to be a testing tool against your typing prowess. Simply put, it's a fun little tool that sits innocently in your system tray. Don't take yourself so seriously. - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very cool idea!
- blenderstyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good constructive criticism.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Would be extra nifty if it displayed/stored statistics such as most words typed, total words typed, total letters typed, etc.
- mvdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is useless if the measure of WPM doesn't follow any commonly accepted standards (which it doesn't). A "word" in WPM is not literally a word, as the programmer has erroneously assumed.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wpm - IamTheProfessor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Clever, I got up to 108 in a 15 word sentence, I didn't realize how much time I spend at the computer. I need to get out.
- MikeEnIke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Am I missing something extremely stupid? I download the zip, unzip, run exe, get error :(
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3 Exactly.
- saxattack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nope its not, sorry to tell ya
- Dested, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Very nice.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5Nice app.
- Xperamental, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4to whoever dugg down the above comment you do realise that the author of that comment is TheSoftwareJedi himself.... just thought i should point that out
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0After trying once my peak was 151 and averaged around 130+. So your not that bad :P
- MikeEnIke, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Gives me an error when trying to run the .exe :(
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1works for me, thus your computers suck, no?
- datastorageguy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Wow thanks for the info. Who cares...
- irok, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2awesome, keep it up for the 13 days!
- tiga31328, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2This app SUCKS!!! I tried it on 3 different XP Pro machines and it just sits in the tray, never shows anything, double-clicking the tray icon gets a black overlay with nothing. The programmer needs to do a better job next time, don't waste your time with this.
- Manuel, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2This is a cool app!
- arrenlex, on 10/12/2007, -13/+6Wine doesn't like it. = /
- bradym80, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4lets be a generic digg user and ask
"where's the mac version?"
