- mooseboy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+43oh boy! I can't wait to get the same things I can get for free from my local library!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37Stick your Microsoft DRM where the sun don't shine.
- Dihuko, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26A full 2-hour movie takes up to 7 hours to download?!? Ouch. I could get better speeds on bittorrent downloads.
- ryware, on 07/04/2008, -1/+24You can remove the DRM from the Amazon videos with FairUse4WM 1.2. You can download it at any of the mirrors below:

Where do I sign up? - skubiszm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Sounds like another failure to me. If I can't play it on my Xbox Media Center, Video Ipod, PSP, linux box, etc, why should I buy it? Then the industry will blame piracy and we still won't be able to download movies. What a joke.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Team America digital download from Amazon: $14.99
Team America DVD from Amazon: $10.49
I predict this service will be a massive success. Not. $14.99 for a digital download is a crime. - ipodman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Plays For ***** is more like it.
- sam1am, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18"The devices in the list below have been tested with the Unbox Video Player. If your device is Plays for Sure compliant it may work, but we cannot guarantee performance on untested devices."
Plays for Sure, maybe? - joel8x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Or you can buy the DVD for $9.98 from your local WalMart. Go figure.
- codeman38, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Personally, I'm still waiting for a video download service that actually offers subtitles with the shows/movies. Seriously, there are more deaf and hard-of-hearing folks online than these companies think!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21do they have porn too?
- chrisgeleven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Well if Amazon is offering DVD quality along with a portable player version for that price, I imagine Apple will too.
Key point is that H.264 is much better then Windows Media at compression. So the downloads will be quicker (assuming Apple doesn't go even higher in quality).
Things should be interesting on the 12th. You would think Apple would offer something at least the same as Amazon, if not better.
Of course, I want the Airport Extreme so I can watch this instantly on TV. - maledin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Haha...
"You'll always remember your first time ... There will be many downloads in your life. But only one first download from Amazon Unbox Video. So make it special. Light the candles. Pour a beverage and consider..."
Are they saying this is similiar to loosing your virginity?
It seems so... - tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Don't be *****. Yes 98% of people run Windows, but how many people want to watch movies exclusively at their PCs? It's not just saying you need Windows to download it. It's saying you need to be sat in front of your Windows computer to watch them. And they charge you more than the price of a DVD for the pleasure.
The parent isn't complaining that it's not Mac/Linux compatible (I don't think), he's complaining you can't even burn the downloads to a disc to watch them on your TV. It's moronic. - Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12We can only hope that Apple knew the stats Amazon was going to use and will offer a better deal. I'm sure they will beat Amazon on some points, such as ease of use, but for the rest we will have to wait until next Tuesday.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I've always supported Amazon.com because it's one of the most successful installations of Linux around.
But if they're going to tell me that the only way I can be their customer is to run Windows XP SP2, then they can kiss my business goodbye.
Amazon, Bite my shiny metal ass. - BigW, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Yeah, it doesn't work at all on my Mac.
I love all these stories about how "someone needs to compete with iTunes, we need competition in the market" and then they deliver windows only crap.
Hey I know maybe you could throw out the f****** DRM and sell us something we could use wherever we want. - mojee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Some dude at Amazon not too long ago: "I wonder if there's a way to deliver movies that's even crappier than UMDs..."
- iAlex, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Not for Mac. Sucks. Tuesday Apple Keynote. Hopefully iTunes Movies Store.
- pap3rw8, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13has the drm been cracked yet? its been out for more over an hour!
- nrighton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Seriously, what is convenient about waiting for 7 hours for a video that you will have to archive yourself and never be able to play on any other DVD player or lend to a friend.
- jraneses, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Yes, FairUse4WM 1.1 in full effect yo.
- luke--, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I love how you can remove the DRM but the real thing that's missing here is the COMMENTARY tracks and SPECIAL FEATURES.
- DigitAl56K, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9No, it took a couple of years. This is just good timing ;)
- bieber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Oh, come on. You don't _really_ expect them to forego all those joyful packaging and shipping expenses without charging you a little for it, do you?
- bieber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Well, for those of us who haven't encountered DRM yet...
- bedouin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Even if it did work on my Mac, I don't think I'm going to pay $36 for Do the Right Thing anytime soon, not when you can get it for probably $14 and own the actual DVD.
Not to mention, iTunes is so much more pleasurable to browse through than this. - Trel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7They're saying it rapes you in the ass with its long hard DRM.
- Odiwan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What is the resolution of the downloads? Example, are the Star Trek episodes really that small / low resolution when I buy them? The information is not up front where I can find it easily.
- zhulien, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10"the videos must be watched from a Windows PC" - That makes the service pretty much useless then, who's gonna use it?
- lmmz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Only plays on XP SP2 or Win Server 2003? BWahaha...
- ravenmuffin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is a seriously bad attempt.
I can't help thinking Amazon have deliberately made it bad so that people will simply continue buying real DVDs.
Buying tangible stuff that they ship to you via courier is Amazon's core business after all. - easy4lif, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9dam that was like what 2 seconds to break the DRM.
Hacker community rocks - rino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Just be sure and email the same thing to Amazon Customer Support dude.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/digital-video.html
I did. - scamjefe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6a little update.. finally was able to install the software..
first.. I was unable to login.. a bit of stalling.. then was able to login..
now it's show "unable to download" - joerod, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9only windows... lame!
- mutants, on 08/17/2008, -1/+4Good call on the email approach. I just sent the following:
"Windows only?! This is from the company that is one of the largest open source users in the world? You may have just lost a long time customer with this move, one who has Linux and Macintosh systems, and is insulted that you selected a Windows-only solution for this new service. Shame on you Amazon, or shame on the MBA who compromised your core values for a quick buck, ignoring the needs of ALL Amazon customers."
Kinda melodramatic, but at least I said my piece. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Windows only? Piss on it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It'll be called "iTunes+Movies" if recent product names from Apple trend correctly.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I loosed my virginity once, It hurt.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I can get a movie in 15 minutes from Usenet.
- peerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is so frustrating. It seems like no one can get mainstream music and video downloads right.
I suppose it isn't amazon's or itunes' fault. If they went to the companies and said "hey we want to put an unprotected version of your product on-line and sell it for a low price", they would probably get laughed at. - kowcop, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4the fact that it can only be watched on a PC is why the DRM will eventually be broken the same as DVD... I believe DECSS was introduced so someone could watch DVDs on their linux box
- Toupee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'll partake in paying for movie downloads when there's a DRM-free service like eMusic, where I purchase (not "kind of purchase"!) movies for a fair price and keep them and do whatever the hell I want with them.
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Amen,brother. Most of these are either competitvely priced with the DVD, or a few dollars less than the DVD. And the downloaded product is far less useful. I'd consider downloading V for Vendetta for 4.99, not 14.99
This is an idea that at best will be a niche product, more likely will die. - yasth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ummm but do you get the bitrate?
That was rhetorical, since amazon assumes a maxed out connection so you downloading faster means lower bitrate. They are by my calculations easily exceeding 2500kb/s now granted xvid may be better then windows media, but still that insanely good, as in pass off for HD good. (I am downloading now to check what res they are running this at) - beelz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6i can get a movie in 30 mins off bt. none public trackers but still.
- deesnutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Amazon doesn't even own the domains ...
http://www.unbox.com or
http://www.unboxedvideos.com
Even though they do point to amazon's site. A quick trademark registration will put an end to that. When is Netflix going to throw their hat in to this ring? - wtf00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I saw some the price for movie and TV show.. 1.99 is great price.. .but heavy on DRM turn me off..
