- nhnFreespirit, on 12/10/2008, -0/+42You would think that after this, we would take a break for a while... But we are already working hard on the next version and have several new features in the works! But for now, I really want a glass of champagne before going back to coding :-)
- jrepin, on 12/10/2008, -0/+23Simply the best music player and manager ever! Keep up the excellent work and keep on Amaroking!
- sven423, on 12/10/2008, -0/+20Amarok is using MySQL embedded now, which is definitely faster than SQLite.
- Takahani, on 12/10/2008, -0/+18Great news, keep going !
- markey, on 12/10/2008, -0/+18Amarok 2.0 uses MySQL Embedded, so it's super fast :)
- ApoorvKhatreja, on 12/10/2008, -0/+17Greatest thing is, even though the version for Mac OS X is still in beta, it is just as amazing, with a bit of finish required.
http://rutsum.com/amarok-2-beta-on-mac-os-x-–-awes ... - lfranchi, on 12/10/2008, -0/+16We're not using SQLite but Mysql Embedded. This means that you get all the speed of a full DB (MUCH faster lookups) and ease of not having to set anything up.
Anyway, the speed of importing is determined by the collection scanner being able to read the tags from the files themselves (and taglib is already quite fast), not updating the collection. - markey, on 12/10/2008, -0/+15Here is a nice screenshot tour of Amarok 2.0, made by Abhishek Rane:

- leinir, on 12/10/2008, -0/+15Good thing we're not using sqlite any more then, eh? :)
- kragil, on 12/10/2008, -0/+13Why isn't this getting popular? Digg is starting to suck :)
- Tsiolkovsky, on 12/10/2008, -0/+12Thank you very much for this release. I love the new widgets area in the centre and the improved speed with huge music library I have. The new look and the new way of internet services integration are also awesome.
- kragil, on 12/10/2008, -0/+12And it already got an award :)
http://www.heise-online.co.uk/open/The-KDE-Akademy ... - kragil, on 12/10/2008, -0/+12Best featurefull music player there is. I really do _NOT_ understand why Amazon won't integrate their MP3-music-store into it. It would blow iLoons out of the water.
- DreadKnight, on 12/10/2008, -0/+10Looking forward to queuing and playlist filtering :)
- AsSubtleAsABrik, on 12/10/2008, -1/+11In case anyone is wondering, it uses MySQL Embedded instead of SQLite now.
- baqtor, on 12/10/2008, -0/+10If this is something like the KDE4 release, it means its gonna go from something already awesome, to a killer app in a couple of months.
Now, as users/fanboys its our task to install and encourage each of our friends and relatives to install amarok on their OS's.
"this is just the beginning". Congratulations. - supertones, on 12/11/2008, -1/+7Digg Why you gotta keep the OSS community down. Put this on the front page already!
- Avian00, on 12/11/2008, -0/+5Looking forward to trying it! Congrats Amarok Team!
- dualscreenman, on 12/10/2008, -1/+5Works fine for me... (I also don't see options that don't work)
- imagelife, on 12/11/2008, -0/+4so good news ! :)
- Tsiolkovsky, on 12/10/2008, -0/+4Probably some bug in Digg system. Report here: http://digg.com/bugreport
- Chris7mas, on 12/11/2008, -0/+4+1 for this wonderful amazing player
Strange enough, most of the betas went front page, so this release should get too. Maybe it should have been submitted to Linux instead of Software, after all not many Windows users heard about Amarok. - sfury, on 12/12/2008, -0/+3Cheers!
- augustofretes, on 12/10/2008, -2/+5Sadly, I agree :(
- cveltma, on 12/10/2008, -2/+5Is someone an Amarok developer? This sound a lot like many of the responses on their forums when anyone has something even slightly criticizing to say about amarok2.
I confused, do I know you? More importantly, do you know me? Instead of insulting me why don't you refute my claims.
People can create things however and as much as they want and on their own release schedule, however contrary to your opinion my opinion does matter, I am the user and without users well, amarok might as well not exists. I can assure you I will not be using Amarok 2 until I see at very minimum support for USB mass storage devices. Why move from a perfectly good program that has support for such devices? Id call that regression...and isn't the point of release a new program moving forward?
I like Amarok and Amarok 2 I simply think things need to be worked on before there is an official release. - tehdanish, on 12/14/2008, -0/+3Love Amarok 1.4, not a fan of 2.0 so far though.
- Playlist is missing filtering (or I can't find it), probably my most used feature
- Shuffle / random is down in some menu rather than icons in the status bar.
- KDE 4 I had no sound support setup, no error just nothing happening when I tried to play a track
- No replaygain script so far
- UI feels a bit.. blobby.. - mxcl, on 12/10/2008, -5/+7Hi, some tips:
1. Become important in some way
2. Get some talent
3. Have something intelligent to say
If you achieve any one of those three, perhaps, it's possible, that anyone will give a ***** about what you say.
Until then, probably, people who create things that make a difference will do what they want, irrelevant of your opinion.
Bye. - DriversPlaza, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1Wow thats a great news.. more news about it would coming soon @ http://www.techlookz.com/daily-news/
- mariuz, on 12/10/2008, -6/+8I wonder if i can port the db to firebird ,
i hate sqlite too slow to import 8500 songs - djbon2112, on 12/25/2008, -0/+2You're not alone. I agree too. This new interface is a piece of *****. I like the simplicity of 1.4. I'll just force my package manager to stick to this version forever.
- talkingwires, on 12/13/2008, -0/+1I didn't want to be mean, but whoever compiled those screenshots has redefined ***** "taste" in music. They have not one, but TWO Backstreet Boys albums, for chrissakes!
- anonymousT, on 12/15/2008, -0/+1woawsome!
- bayonetblaha, on 12/18/2008, -0/+1Media Players are not supported yet. That's a bit of a hole.
- inactive, on 04/26/2009, -0/+1Thanks folks, great release.

Amarok rocks!
Too bad they got it as Amarock instead of Amarok, the article is misinformed - abcourses, on 02/26/2009, -0/+0Amorok isn't a genius thing
