- lydon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, looks like a cool idea, but it would definitely use some resources.
- Sliver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very Lame. Flash is now eating my processor and Explorer is taking up 300+ megs
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool. Tried it. It has an uninstaller, didn't affect my system. It just uses active desktop.
No major resource issues that I can see. (2.6ghz)
Very slick effect. I like. Dugg. - MLyzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the "Your Company Name" default on the title of the window. Looks like someone threw this site together.
- spyhunter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Crappy. The movies are way too low res for my display, and the framerate is too low, and the looping is really obvious, and it replaces your desktop context menu, and they have a giant Deans3d watermark, which I hate. I thought it was going to be a real-time 3D thing. If it was, it would be really cool.
Drempels is way better:
http://www.geisswerks.com/drempels/ - rizzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wouldn't it be easier to just use a really big animated gif
with active desktop? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Konfabulator
- larfus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am sea sick
- ShaunJordan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1^^Should be, That sounds like a better idea.
I like the idea of it, but it HAS to be a resource hog.
Dugg. - thatsiebguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It would be better if someone would release flash based animted backgrounds..
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was looking for something a tad simpler than this (and far less processor intensive) so I made a html page that essentially swapped out my desktop wallpaper every five minutes. If anyone's interested in this, email me and I'll send it to you. If there's a good response I'll clean it up and post it somewhere.
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ugh. now i have to scan my computer for adware/spyware. i don't trust this application. if i don't respond back, then there was no malware.
- hass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0VLC can do this with movies. And it does it much more efficiently. I propose someone makes a program based on VLC that runs in the background and plays a looped movie on your desktop. It's open source.
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"foxhound: JESUS. buy an intel dude. I have a 2.6ghz and it take 3-4%. wtf.
my f*ckin pencil has 512mb of ram.
Obviously if you want a lean mean machine, DONT INSTALL A FRICKIN MOVIE DESKTOP!!! I can't believe what people expect, they just dont think."
i, and the rest of the digg community, are getting pretty darn sick of people like you. so, do us a favor and keep you're flames to yourself. in other words: shut up.
if i want my bedroom to be 90F, then i'll buy an intel. if i want to waste 20-50+ watts of electricity, then i'll buy an intel. if i want my computer to sound like a jumbo jet taking off, THEN...i'll buy an intel.
until then, keep your half-baked thoughts to yourself. another thing, i don't have another $50 to waste on ram. mommy and daddy don't pay my way anymore. so, little kid, stay off digg until you have the ability of abstract thought. - foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it uses ~20% of my athlon xp 3200+ barton core processor, and it knocks explorer's memory use up to ~125,000 KB. now, i think i have an alright system: athlon xp 3200+ with 512 MB single-channel DDR, but when programs like this get on my computer, it runs no better than any PIII.
- dekkeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0couldn't get it to work. Can't select HTML-files as background somehow.
- gklitt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not bad, but pointless and distracting. Still pretty cool though. +digg
- Gringo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Like I really need another program running in the background to steal cpu cycles. I don't think so!
- dance2die, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i've always been looking for excuses to push my gfx card to the max.
This background helps my gfx to push its limit a bit :)
So i digg it~ - goat2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Hoped it would work on Wink2k .... it didn't"
yeah well that os IS almost SIX YEARS OLD - theonetheonly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hoped it would work on Wink2k .... it didn't
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0a huge animated gif was what i was expecting, not an exe. an animated gif would probably use less resources.
- digital.dreamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not to bad...some of my icons looked pixelated around the edges for some reason. Cool but I would run this on a lowend or medium end machine.
- dick-richardson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There's no reason you shouldnt' be able to get it work in w2k. just embed the .swf file in an html file, turn on active desktop and add your html file.
Speaking of which, does anyone have the plain swf files for those? - mr.hostility, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why don't I just run a video fullscreen on loop. No Digg, this hogs memory.
- notman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I may have been able to deal with it more if it didn't have to change my desktop into a web based desktop. I didn't like losing my context menus.
BTW, I tried it on my Intel machine and as I mentioned above, it took 132MB for explorer. The CPU cycles were low, but I still prefer my ram for better things. I didn't even bother to try playing a game with this running. I can only imagine how it would crap that up. - Lumbeekid06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i couldnt look at that wave all day, that would get me sick.......and i dont even get sea SICK!
- ReRunx5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0140,000k went up, good but not worth getting
- brewer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Re: ^^
Desktop icons are for lez incompètent. - pwrstick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone notice you can't group select now? Plus I can't right click on desktop without getting the flash menu, for obvious reasons.
- notman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This added a very cool new feeling to my desktop. Unfortunately it raped my ram also (132MB). Too excessive for just a desktop. I leave my computer up and running while doing work at my desk and it would be nice to have something like this running especially if more variations existed. I uninstalled though.
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Something better, but not a stupid video running on your desktop (think osX shifting bg): uses java scripting, but needs a little optimizing. Here's the link:http://www.zansstuff.com/rotatedesktop.shtml
- silentauthority, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good idea, but it eats way too many resources up. Dugg.
maybe if I had my own computer >> having a family computer sucks. - tamas4president, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It can be made to work on win 2k by installing, go to c:winnt and get the *.fob files, rename them to *.swf. Then open these files in IE they should work as flash files. Go to deans3d install dir and grap any of the webpages, change the file reference from blahblah.fob to blahblah.swf.
Then display, background, browse and find the webpage - dick-richardson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Would someone be able to email me a *.fob file to try it out? vauxje@hotmail.com
- brewer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I tried it and it worked alright (didn't check memory usage) but the ocean was pretty pixellated (even at 1280x1024) and the looping was obvious. It also put a document on my desktop and when I deleted it the background quit and won't come back... commencing uninstallation.
- willgonz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you have your Windows installed on another drive other than C: you might run into problems. Edit the HTML Files under Program FilesDeans3D change to
Takes up cpu time. Not worth it. - willgonz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It didn't like the html sample I pasted. Just replace C: with your drive letter you have windows installed on.
- mnl88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's ugly.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Some of them are sort of lame :(
- whkeeler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is there any way or program that will display pictures on your XP desktop like
a slide show? - lazrus18, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the idea but getting my desktop icons to match is a bit tedious
- jimbo92107, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nah, these are Flash animations that use up far too much of my notebook's resources. I also don't like it when a Flash on my desktop takes away my right-click choices for desktop properties. Some apps are just too damned obnoxious to tolerate, like Flash and Quicktime.
- Marcusk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow this is so lag hahah i run at 0 cpu and then i run at 30 %
- loudthing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The first one is the default Maya ocean shader.
- seand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0its a background...even with dual monitors i rarely ever see my background less I am killing/restarting X or shutting down/rebooting windows...seems like an aweful lot of energy to use on something you rarely will ever see...
- Agent_Starks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone get this working for a dual monntor setup? I'm looking for 2560x1024
- ilselu1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0-Installed and UnInstalled-
I liked http://www.hamar.sk/sphere more than this... - Seaton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Couldn't get it to work. Looks sketchy.
- slurp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0add a cool swf file instead
replace the .fob file with a swf file, don't forget to rename the swf file the same as the original .fob file
voila customised customised desktop
basically i switched from a animated gif to a true flash file which then does hog the power from you computer -
