- tanveer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2macgyver: here is what you do,
Step:1
Open folder C:Documents and Settings[User Name]Application DataMozillaFirefoxProfiles
Step:2
Open XXXXXXXX.default folder (where XXXXXXXX some eight random characters). Now click open "chrome" folder inside it.
Step:3
Rename "userChrome-example.css" to just "userChrome.css"
Step:4
Open it in notepad and copy paste the code found on the site.
Now save it. Restart firefox and wala!
P/S: To make the select-tab color more noticeable, change the default RGB value (which is boring black/grey) in the code to some other color...to get you started w/o having to look up rgb values, here are coupe of color codes:
LimeGreen: rgb(145,233,82)
PurpleBlue: rgb(128,128,256) - munroe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No they're beyond a feature at this point. They've become a necessity, and I would not use a browser without them.
- tanveer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1True, true!
- TokenUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@greattastic - Opera does this using a "skin" (Tools|Appearance ... skin 'tab'). Has done so for a looooong time.
Don't bash Opera unless you've used it. - KingSnake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Tabs are so annoying?! Are you stupid.. or do you prefer to just have 5 different browser windows open at one time
- capn_caveman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sweet. Nice digg.
- Kuth678, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0instant digg. great feature.
There are similar CSS hacks for thunderbird too... - JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Tabbrowser Extension" is awesome, more features than I could ever want for my tabbed browsing experience.. move tabs between windows, automatically groups tabs by color, you can close groups of tabs at one time, can force all new windows to be tabs.. LOTS of options, I love it.
Another feature it has that I really like: new/unread tabs can be marked with italic (or any other text/color features you choose) so that they are easily distinguishable among the other already viewed tabs. - GraysDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Tabbed browsing is more addicting than crack! Good tips
- alexisefisher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Tabbrowser extension is similar, but any tab opened from another tab retains the same color. also, drag n drop tabs (the reason I initially got it)...
- recover82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0for those who don't know, Ctrl + PageUP or PageDown can also be used as a keyboard shortcut to shift through open tabs.
i find this very handy on my laptop. - jamesburton1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Some great tips there!
- diecastbeatdown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0tabs are annoying? what do you do instead, open multiple browsers to consume more memory?
thats retarded and wastful. - jiminoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0tabs annoying? I hope that was a joke, its one of the no-brainer features that should have been in browsers since the beginning.
- megavortex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice!
- DarthDaddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks for the tip!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Firefox's customizability is why I still use it over opera, dug. :-)"
I can tell you dont use Opera, as Opera already has this built in - BxBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice, but you don't have to bash Opera.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Firefox's customizability is why I still use it over opera, dug. :-)
- rum-it, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Drop the file in the right place. The chrome folder under your profile.
- your_mom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0my tabs already have color ..
~ - MacGyver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0has anyone tried this? I dropped the code into the css file but nothing happened.(restarted firefox & comp but nothing)
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0**Tip**
Why do this when you can simply download a firefox theme that basicly already does this for you. I tried it and once you change the color it messes with any default colors of any themes you may install and use. - Kuth678, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Why not just make an extension this is too much work!"
Yes you're right. Copy and pasting. then taking two seconds to look up an RGB value is way too much work. - jaredvolkl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great site with a lot more info than just changing the tab color. Dugg!
- MacGyver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks for the help, I was editing the css file under program files instead of documents and settings. Is it supposed to have that generic square tab look? Is there a way to keep the default firefox tab look but change its color?
- Spazkake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why not just make an extension this is too much work!
- tribalsun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Opera does this by default, but it is nice to see FF try and catch up once again with Opera. :-)
- shit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0People who don't like tabs don't know about Ctrl+Tab. You have two hands.
- Nooon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Holy crap this is old news!
- nuclearpenguins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I think I'm the only one left who doesn't care/never uses tabs while surfing the Internets.
- Crazyguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0check it out when i get home
- Crazyguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0i would check this out but my school's filter forbids it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Tabs are so annoying. It's NOT a feature.
