- izaic3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+39In summation, find the torrent on The Pirate Bay, use uTorrent to download it. Torrents work by dividing up the file into lots of little pieces, which everyone shares with each other, which means that one can start sharing before they have finished downloading the file. Yay.
- IShouldBeWorkin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22I will admit to being out of the torrent game for a few years, but is uTorrent the new azureus?
Lately ive been hearing a lot about uTorrent, and im still using azureus, i guess im out of touch with the kids these days with their hip hop music and their uTorrent with the bippin and the boppin [cosby-esque ramble commences] - xero69, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD ***SEED***
lol
please? - jerryparid, on 10/10/2007, -5/+17Buried as lame; does not mention port opening in the article, thus will cause many users to be plagued with slow speed.
Also does not mention private torrent sites. - lordtyros, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Yes. uTorrent > azureus
- TVarmy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9uTorrent has almost all the important features of Azureus, mainly the ones that real people use rather than the overly advanced and overly aesthetic ones like graphs of the swarm. It still has torrent creation, scheduled bandwidth control, individual file priority, encryption, UPNP, and it runs very quickly. It uses little ram, about 7MB tops, and also uses very few CPU cycles, making it a great program to run in the background and on older machines. Also, the fact that it is a monolithic program (read: just an EXE file without an installer) makes it easy to try, uninstall, copy, or carry on a thumb drive.
The main thing it is missing is multi-platform support, but it runs very well under Wine and it is being ported, slowly but surely, to OSX and Linux. - chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8bittorrent isn't illegal and never will be. It's only what you choose to download that is the problem.
- iownsomuch, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9This is actually very well explained. Thanks for this :)
- thegreatsam, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I bet most of the user's this is targeted to wont know the password to log into their firewall/router, let alone care what port they are using.
- Klinky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Azureus was always bloated due to it's Java base. Also they've recently switched over to a commercial venture called "Vuzu". uTorrent is a lightweight native Windows client(though they're working on alternate clients and I believe it already works in WINE).
- NinjaBoy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I used to be the same way man. Just try it one. I swear you will never go back. Its just so damn light and fast.
- Anoobis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6ha ha dude... make a comment like that and you'll soon be entering a whole world of internet pain
- razorsharp84, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6http://portforward.com/
- cricoste90, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5"...the lightning fast file sharing protocol hasn't completely taken off in the mainstream..."
Good, let's keep it that way: you know what happens when things get too popular... - PurpleDingo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I dont want it to go mainstream. As long as it stays underground, it will survive. If Napster stayed off the radar, it would still be around too.
- kahlessreborn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Warning even though he recommends it Torrentspy is now working with the Feds
"Popular BitTorrent search engine TorrentSpy was told by a federal judge on May 29th that it needed to keep log files of user activity on its site, even if there was no business reason for it"
http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20070610/172049.shtml - civperc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Can someone point me in the direction of a good port opening tutorial in regards to fully utilizing bittorrent? I've been plagued by poor speeds in the past but knew it was due to my not opening ports(?)
t.i.a. - purplehelium, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4nice job, this really helped me out
- j4nj1m3n3z, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4well considering this is for people who almost have no knowledge of torrents and such, you don't want to overwhelm them with information they will eventually find out on their own.
- spookyttws, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Dammit. I'm a Azureus loyalist and large proponent of, but you all make uTorrent sound so good. Guess I'll be jumping head first. One question before I switch though, does uTorrent have/streamline plugins as easy as Azurues does?
- Renton, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Does anyone know when demonoid is having open registrations again. I've been waiting since early June.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2THANK GOD!! Instead of trying to explain to a computer illiterate person how I "get free movies" I can now just send them this.
- Djerrid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Here's how to get the little known floating statusbar in uTorrent:
Right-click a downloading torrent. Do down to Advanced then chose Show Download Bar.
Drag it where you want and right-click it when you're done. It's very useful. - h3ndrix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What happened to survival of the fittest?
- Klinky, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3AnimeSuki is NOT legal. If anything it's a "gray-area". The material has not been licensed for US release yet, but most likely will.
- xero69, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Don't forget to install something to keep the MPAA & RIAA from collecting evidence to prosecute you with.
For example I use the free program PeerGuardian 2 and you'd be amazed to see how many hostile connections are blocked on the more popular torrents. - kingofthescreen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2There really aren't any plugins for uTorrent. At least none that are as easily implemented as they are in Azureus. Bear in mind though that many of the features that require plugins in Azureus come standard in uTorrent. RSS scanners with custom download rules and a speed scheduler are included in the lightweight package that is uTorrent. Definitely worth it to check it out.
- TVarmy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If you have a router, get the admin password and use the web interface to open/unblock ports that you want to use. Try ports other than 6881-6999, because those ports are often blocked or monitored. Also, make sure that your software firewalls make an exception for the ports you want to use and/or your bit torrent client (Approve it for incoming and outgoing connections). Google up the name of your router/software firewall for more specific instructions.
- championchap, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Demonoid lets you download 3 torrents a day without being registered.
There is a limit to the date or something though.. either you cant get new ones.. or older ones.. i honestly don't remember. - h3ndrix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If you can prove yer not a leach, I can give you a pass.
- fxspec06, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Can someone send me an invite to torrentleech? email at bshado@charter.net
- vaxguru, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"Y'see, the kids, they listen to the rap music, which gives them the brain damage. With their hippin' and their hoppin' and their bippin' and their boppin' so they don't know what the jazz is all about! You see, Jazz is like a Jello Pudding pop - NO! Actually, it's more like Kodak film - NO! Actually jazz is like the new Coke; it'll be around forever! Heh heh heh.."
- Progz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Bittorrent is the best thing that ever happening in the downloading scene.
- Tanath, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No love for sarcasm I see.
- CYR1X, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I'm sure this is helpful but shouldn't people on digg already know how to use bittorrent.
- championchap, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1A good torrent downloads at my max download speed.
Private Trackers = Love.
Of course you can find pleanty of good torrents on public trackers too. Just less common. - conors, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Thiose who complain about the bittorrent speed have never used Private trackers. I get 40mb download speeds form Torrentleech. I can not see any benifet of paying for Newsgroups or going through the hell of searching for torrents there. I like the simplicity of a menu of available torrents, click on one that looks interesting and then down it comes. Dvd in 20 mins.. CAnt be easier than that!
By the way, anyone got an invite for Oink? Much appreciated phc123@gmail.com - championchap, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Oh god yes, I added a couple more lists yesterday.. seems im being connected to a LOT.
Not so much anymore though, mwahahaha. Privacy seems to mean nothing anymore. - TheStrangeBrew, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think the article was pretty decent in explaining some of the basics of BitTorrent. I still know people who don't know what it is and still use Limewire/Napster. Then again, I do live in the sticks...
- dillibob, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3or u can just use opera ;)
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1opening a port in your router and forwarding it to your correct ip on the network is the most important part id say. You dont know how many people i see using bittorrent, with the ports closed
- Tostito, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Holy *****, I was just reading this submission, when I decided to check Demonoid and registrations are open. I just signed up. So yeah, just a little heads up.
- iceman0113, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1@Aurarch get on a private torrent site like torrentleech and i guarantee you, you will have a full movie within minutes. Seeder to leecher ratio, about 3:1
- emmie876, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1dugg for the use of firefox - shown in a screenshot
- trunkster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1In the US you have to pay like $20 for like 4 episodes of an anime. In Japan you can just watch them on TV for free. That is what's illegal.
- xero69, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You know I've found that many times if I have enough DHT nodes connected I still seem to be able to download torrents tracked by Demonoid without the user and pass. Or maybe I'm retarded and they are not Demonoid exclusive torrents.
- Renton, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1http://i18.tinypic.com/4u3kscx
Can you send it to smw2790@yahoo.com Thanks a lot man. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1duh, most people use it to download things that don't belong to them. Why would you want more of the idiots who band wagoned onto all the other now defunct (thanks to them) file sharing services to use bit torrent?
- twangbender, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4they forgot the best torrent search engine, www.scrapetorrent.com
- Zalyster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, when you're getting something at 188 kb/s versus the 24 kb/s I'd be getting on a public tracker, private trackers ARE lightning fast!
