- NickDouglas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Note that they're not competitive; they want to serve a niche. That spells success -- they'll be the perfect browser for a small group of social users.
- alexw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Woah, gi-normous text at the flock website.
Flocking huge text - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*their member site
so inside its like: breadcrumbs | tags | groups | people (social bookmarking *****, etcx) - shooby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if the text in the browser is as big as on the site, I'll tear my hair off
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ok from the website http://www.flock.com/home/download/ i just made up a random redemption number like"24234" and made an account- a download isnt available from their (you still need an invitation)
but its still interesting to get in - xaph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, yes, yes. I'd like to see how they would revolutionize our social habits.
- mutant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is ghey.. Develop FOR firefox, not against.
- Tech_Junkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Like we need another browser. Why don't they just build extensions to do this. If they change Firefox to much they will fail!
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone know where to get invites? Or somewhere I can download it?
Pweeze? :( - isdereks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Someone pointed out that they entered a random registration code. If you go to http://beta.flock.com, anyone can register. It's only actual invited individuals who have access to the download.
I've been using it for about 2 weeks now. It's not a Opera "knock-off". Everyone is going to knock on Flock until they actually get the chance to play around with it. - warofwrath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Note that they're not competitive; they want to serve a niche. Whether they want to be a niche or not they have received major hype recently. The flock.com link has gotten popular here, del.icio.us, been mentioned on several popular blogs, and now a Wired article. This isn't the first I have heard about it and I hope that it won't be the last. - cool4u2view, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cough please support jpeg2000 cough
- JayFyve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm having a lot of fun with stumbleupon.com
- compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We want invites!
- ericush, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have really been hearing a lot about this lately, and while I am happy to check out a new product I am leery of the incredible degree of hype this thing was getting even when people had no clue what it even is. It sometimes almost seems like people feel like: "Oh I haven't seen anything about it like specs or a screenshot or anything, but it was tagged with "Web 2.0" at some site so I know I must want it desperately"
- eple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0for some of you who just replied like "oh great another browser" and posts saying why not add a firefox extension and why cant there just be firefox. flock is based off firefox except it makes browsing have a nicer look, feel and great social experience. thats all.
- CaptSnuffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0flock that!
- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You know, I was just thinking to myself, "sure I have Safari, IE, and Firefox and I could get Opera but what I really need is an alternative browser alternative". Why don't we do something useful with our time, like not make more browsers, or cure cancer, or find a good liberal presidential candidate or bitch on digg.com about stupid browser articles after drinking three gin and tonics?
- jay314, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@MrZaiko:
From searching, it looks like at least 6 people (none of them you, strangely..) have already submitted this story. They didn't get recognized simply because they didn't have an outrageous and misleading headline.
From the looks of it, this is just Firefox with social bookmarking/browsing. - jay314, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@bittered:
got any screenshots? i don't care about all this hype people are talking about.. i just want a list of features and a screenshot. - Fortyseven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You certainly won't see anyone with poor eyesight complaining about the site. *cough*
What is that? 150em? :P - jay314, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@MrZaiko:
Sorry if it sounded accusing or something.. I wasn't searching to prove you wrong, just searching to see if anyone had submitted other URLs. Figured I'd let you know I didn't see yours, as it might be a digg bug or something. - krisse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think it looks interesting.
Might not be something people will use (well somebody will, wont they?) but I really like the idea of making information integrated and more dynamic. Can't say I dig it yet, tho.
Now lets have those screens! :) - MrZaiko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I submited the link with my friends name @ his house, its still me though. but thanx for wasting ur time searching. I love it
- raveil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So why have 400+ people already dugg this? There are no details -- just lots of words strung together. This is pathetic.
- ikkir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"IE is already on the way out with the new version based on firefox Duh!!!
I'll either be using the new IE based on firefox, netscape 8.0 once the bugs are worked out of it, Flock all depending on what features they have."
Well Duh!!
Just kidding. (:
How do people delete comments? funny...
-> - MrZaiko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No prob man haha, its ok
- t94xr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think there should be a limit to how many browsers we use? Webdesigners have it hard enough coding for Mozilla, Firefox, IE and Safari.
Any Netscape browsers and versions are now ignored and not supported by the general web standards and web design community. - UndisclosedP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0IE of course being based on FireFox, and I mean Firefox never stole all of its ideas from Opera did it? No of course not.
(BTW, that was sarcasm) - stanleyfresh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Uhhh... okay, this is just plain confusing. First, it's a digg ripoff & now it's a Firefox based browser? I'm just plain confused...
http://digg.com/software/Flock_Looks_Exactly_Like_Digg_How_to_Log-In_and_See_for_Yourself_ - rickypc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the way they use the 'google approach' of limited release. It builds up a sense of excitement amongst users, and a sense of accomplishment for those who finally get it.
However, I am quite sure google is listening to the new happenings, and some one, some where in the google campus is working on adding the functionality in time for the next 'surprise' google offering -- a browser! - bloodwings, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the poor design choice of using giant font on their homepage is bad foreshadowing for this software.
- wormeyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Could this be the new GBrowser? The timing is about right. Google is having some special event in October. Hmmm"
No, I'm one of the 100 original beta testers for flock and while its pretty cool and i have one of the devs skype accounts (yay for small operations!) currently it's too buggy/kludgy to use as my default browser.
I don't expect you guys to believe me but whatever i don't care i wouldn't believe some random person either. And conveniently were not allowed to show screenshots because it's a work in progress. - Luke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Opera is the best!
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Aslong as it helps bring a more rapid death to IE..."
IE is already on the way out with the new version based on firefox Duh!!!
I'll either be using the new IE based on firefox, netscape 8.0 once the bugs are worked out of it, Flock all depending on what features they have. - TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Are they allowed to treat opensource code like that?
- raano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Could this be the new GBrowser? The timing is about right. Google is having some special event in October. Hmmm
- Patrick_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"This is ghey.. Develop FOR firefox, not against."
This is basically firefox... go here: http://www.flock.com/home/extensions/ Notice most are current FF extensions? It's my guess this sucker's based on FF, and is made by Google (I mean, c'mon people, didn't the invites give it away? Can you say, Gmail?). The site colors look too much like Blogger.com, too.
And look at the bottom of the page:
And no, we won't spam you, sell your address or do anything else but use this info to let you know when invites are available. We hate spam just as much as you!
Oh and hey, wanna join the flock? We're hiring! So guess what? Send us your resume!
"
Sounds like Google developers talking, to me (They have a good sense of humour). Plus, they want to hire people... sounds like Google again.
I'm almost positive Flock is developed by Google.
" - DaviDK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If only the firefox team stole some more ideas from opera... and I'm being sincere.
I've registered opera 8 and am using the FF 1.5 beta, and can say it'll certainly follow opera's example, being the rss feed button in the address bar, the most obvious common trade.
Some of the innovations opera has integrated, are so obvious and brilliant that they must be adopted.
What's this about IE being based on FF? You realize that would be just a couple of years off until a windows based Linux, right? - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No thanks. If their design team resembles anything like thier web design team, it's going to be big, bloated, and ugly.
- bittered, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the Flock design! it's simple and it gets the point across.
I'm on the beta and I have to say that the browser doesn't look bloated, it has some nice tools especially for bloggers.
There will be a public preview of the program in October.
Here are some photo's and stuff http://flickr.com/photos/foolswisdom/tags/flockworldhq/ - edmicman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0why not just make a new firefox extension or extension suite?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0or maybe registration is open to public
whatever - Aristotle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0could be interesting to see. I visited their site (http://www.flock.com/) and put in my e-mail for an invite. They spelled a word wrong on their homepage...
- ikkir, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Aslong as it helps bring a more rapid death to IE...
- Aristotle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0whoops, url edit: http://www.flock.com/
- handeyman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0the more the better, but i doubt it will match firefox or opera, at least at first
- MrZaiko, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I ***** SUBMITED THIS LINK LIKE 4 DAYS AGO. it only got like 2 diggs lol
- TokenUser, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Great - yet another Opera knock off.
